Little League International and National Pro Fastpitch (NPF) are pleased to announce the Philadelphia Forces' Little League Softball Days. On Sunday, July 12, and Tuesday, July 28, the Philadelphia Force invite every Little League baseball and softball team to join them at ECTB Stadium to watch fast-paced, elite-level softball for free.

Game-day Events:

Autograph session after the games, Little League players will be permitted on to the field to meet NPF players.

Don't miss your chance to watch and meet Philadelphia Forces' former United States Olympians, All-Americans and Little Leaguers like Katie Burkhart, Megan Gibson and Margo Pruis.

To register your team for Little League Softball Days, visit http://www.littleleague.org/AssetFactory.aspx?vid=164209 . Fax a completed Registration form, listing a manager and up to two (2) coaches, at least 24 hours prior to game time to receive free admission. A confirmation e-mail will be sent within 24 hours of the submission.

If You Are Considering The Purchase Of a New Composite Metal Bat

March 26, 2009 NOTICE TO PARENTS, PLAYERS AND LEAGUES:  IF YOU ARE CONSIDERING THE PURCHASE OF A NEW COMPOSITE METAL BAT FOR USE IN LITTLE LEAGUE BASEBALL (Major Division and below), BE SURE THAT THE BAT YOU ARE PURCHASING HAS THIS MARKING:  BPF 1.15 ON THE BARREL OR HANDLE OF THE BAT.  IF NOT, IT WILL NOT BE ALLOWED FOR PLAY IN LITTLE LEAGUE GAMES.    Little League officials are aware that there are bats for sale in stores, online or that may have already been purchased that are Little League approved, but do not have the required bat performance standard (BPF) markings.  In fact, some of the bats on the Little League approved bat list may not carry the required BPF 1.15 marking on the bat, depending on when they were manufactured and licensed. Currently manufacturers are conducting an inventory and re-testing of all approved bats.  The results of this study / retesting is to be finished by March 31, 2009.  We are building a list of certain bats that are approved, but do not have the BPF marking due to special circumstances.  For these bats, we are extending eligibility for play until December 31, 2009.  As we are made aware of bats that meet our criteria for this extension, we will add them to the list.  Please check this list regularly for updates.  HOWEVER, ONLY BATS WITH THE BPF 1.15 MARKING AND THE BATS ON THIS LIST WILL B E ALLOWED FOR PLAY IN 2009.    Bats with the special exception include the following: Adidas Vanquish Blue design   (There is a newer model of this bat, also named the Vanquish and it has copper and black markings.  It contains the proper labeling and therefore is not subject to the one-year rule).   DeMarini  -   Black Coyote, Rogue, Distance, Rumble, Tengu, Mach 10, Patriot   Easton   -   LZ-810, LZ-800, Stealth Optiflex LST 1,   Louisville Slugger - YB31   NIKE -  Areo     Sincerely, Little League International P.O. Little Leauge Mid-Atlantic Challenger Jamboree

Local Little League administrators, parents and special needs children will gather in Ewing, N.J., on June 6-7, 2009, to participate in the Mid-Atlantic Challenger Jamboree. This Little League event is one of several to be hosted in the coming months by Little League Baseball and Softball at various locations across the country.

The Challenger Division, which was established in 1989 as a separate division of Little League Baseball and Softball, enables boys and girls with physical and mental disabilities, ages 5-18 or the completion of high school, to enjoy the game of baseball along with the millions of other children who participate in this sport worldwide.

The Jamboree is aimed at sharing Little League's services and educational materials with local leagues chartering Challenger Division teams, while giving the Little Leaguers the opportunity to play games. Local Little League volunteers will be coordinating the event.

There are nearly 1,800 teams and more than 26,000 players in Little League's Challenger Division. Chartered Little Leagues can host their own Challenger team or teams. A district-wide program also is a possibility. In this structure, networking among leagues is greatly improved as players and teams throughout a district come together for games.

Important Announcement - Additional Free Background Checks From ChoicePoint

Dear Little League District Administrators, District Staff, League Presidents and Officials:

Beginning on Jan. 1, 2009, the number of free background checks available to chartered local leagues and districts through ChoicePoint, newly-acquired by LexisNexis, has been increased from 80 to 125 - an increase of 56 percent. To sign up and start doing background checks, go to http://littleleague.choicepoint.com/.

Local Little Leagues have been required to conduct a nationwide background checks that include all the applicable government sex offender registry data since 2007. Statewide checks were required from 2003 to 2006. However, Little League International recommends that leagues go beyond the minimum in order to obtain information on other sex crimes and criminal charges that will not be found on the National Sex Offender Registry.

Keep in mind the number of background checks your league must be conducting on an annual basis. To be compliant with the Little League regulation, leagues must conduct checks on all coaches and managers, board members, and any other persons, volunteers or hired workers that provide regular service and/or have repetitive access to, or contact with players or teams. This includes, but is not limited, to extra practice coaches, umpires, team parents, grounds crew, scorekeepers and concession workers.
