Information from WGWG Radio Travis Lee had 6 TD passes , Strong was WR on 4 of them and Thurman had 2,
5 flags for 35 yards on Crest
NF had 6 flags for 45...pretty clean football game.

This is Smashmouth5's take on the game A good crowd of Crest faithful saw the Chargers step back into 4A Friday night and take a 41-14 victory over the North Forsyth Vikings. Crest got on the board first as Travis Lee was able to hook up with Montaze Thurman on a 41 yard TD pass reception. The point after was no good and Crest had a 6-0 lead. In the second quarter Lee found what turned out to be his favorite target on the night, Jermaine Strong. He hit Strong for a 48 yard TD pass which was followed by a successful 2 point conversion. Crest was 14-0. Lee went to Strong for a second time in the quarter on a 45 yard TD pass. The point after was good and Crest went up 21-0. Crest finished up the scoring in the first half on a 15 yard TD pass from Lee to Strong. The point after was no good and Crest took a 27-0 lead into halftime. North Forsyth got on the board in the third quarter off of a bit of trickery.&nbs! p; QB Donald Page completed a 17 yard pass to Preston Burton who tossed it back to Anthony Kimbrough who took it into the end zone. The point after was no good and Crest had a 27-6 lead. Crest picked up another score as Lee completed a five yard TD pass to Thurman. The point after split the uprights and Crest was up 34-6. Crest finished up it's scoring in the fourth quarter as Lee found Strong one last time on a 14 yard TD pass. The point after was good and Crest was up 41-6. North Forsyth closed out the game with an impressive drive led by sophomore fullback Cedric Hickman. Hickman carried the Vikings down the field and QB Jeromy Bailey took it across the goal line on a 1 yard keeper. The 2 point conversion was good which took us to our final of 41-14. Crest had 421 yards of offense while North Forsyth had 287. The Chargers were led on defense by Keenan Little who had 2 interceptions.

North Forsyth moves to 1 and 4 on the year after playing teams like Carver, Parkland, and Crest. Crest continues on the unbeaten path at 5 and 0. Next up for the Chargers are SWFH and county rival Kings Mountain.

Crest Floats By Fred T Foard
In what was a emotional week for the Crest Charger Team Family with the wreck that claimed two football players to what could have been an injury that claimed a life....the team seem to move on. The rainy weather and lack of the pep band playing made the Charger side kind of quiet, but the wet and soggy crowd was drowned out by the players that stepped up and pulled together in a action packed game.

The Chargers first play was a passing play that mounted the first TD for the Chargers at the 52 second mark, after a missed PAT the Foard boys made a quick threat with a run around the end with the Charger D-fence slipping and sliding after the RB which carried the football into Charger land. But once again the "D" stepped up and it was full bore for the Chargers until the half. Second half saw the Chargers once again crank up and some of the scout team players got a lot of playing time.

Great special teams coverage tonight with Kyle Carter getting Billyob's "Hard Charger Headhunter" award. Kyle made some great tackles and was always in the hunt. Old timey shoe string tackles and hard hitting. Kyle also got some LB time and shot through the Foard OL like a man on a mission. Also MARKEITH SURRATT got to step up and got a TD along with BiG Mac who scored from the d-fence side of the game.

All the players that seem to find the goal lines during the year like,LittleJohn, Padget and Lee had a field day but it was the "other" players that got some action that made the night.

Keenan Little broke the school record with two interceptions tonight added to his totals.

Hats off to the Fred T Foard players for a never quit effort.
Score has been posted.

Chargers keep on rolling
Shelby Star Newspaper article

"The inclement weather did little to slow down the Crest Chargers at Fred T. Foard Friday night, as the state’s No. 1 3A team rolled up 255 yards rushing in building a 27-0 halftime lead and ultimately taking a 61-0 victory over the Tigers."

Shelby Star Article by Brian Hanks, (last local football article for the Shelby Star before he becomes the new sports editor in Kinston NC for "The Free Press" )

Quoted from last years newspaper report:
"The Crest offense - averaging over 44 points and nearly 460 yards of offense per game - has been drawing raves all season."
"After the Chargers' 17-0 whitewash of Kings Mountain on Friday night, it's time to give the Crest defense some kudos."

I BELIEVE, once again Crest has played a county rival worthy of respect, and once agin this county rival kept a powerful offensive team in check.

Smashmouth5's Take On The Kings Mtn. Game
ckm2
Chargers Cheerleaders @ K Mtn.
The Crest Chargers pulled out a hard fought victory versus SWFH and Cleveland county rival Kings Mountain 21-0. All of the scoring came in the second quarter as Crest put a 21 spot on the board. Touchdowns came courtesy of a 9 yard run by Travis Lee as well as touchdown passes to Montaze Thurman and Dustin Brewton. Kings Mountain came out and executed an excellent game of ball control which kept the Chargers offense on the sidelines. This gave the Mounties a huge advantage in time of possession. Travis Padgett led the Chargers on the ground with 60 yards rushing. Martray Littlejohn added 47 and Lee chipped in with 44. Travis Lee was 7-17 through the air for 125 yards. Thurman was the go to guy once again for most of those yards. He led the Chargers in receiving with 70 yards. Crest ended up with 283 yards of offense. The unsung hero for the Chargers came in th! e form of Daniel Padgett's foot. The senior kicker was 3 for 3 on PAT's as well as as having a big night pinning Kings Mountain deep on punts and kickoffs. Daniel continues to play well game in and game out. Kings Mountain was led by big Aquino Simmons who picked up 73 yards on 32 carries. QB Jolley ran for 31 and Smith put in 18. Jolley was 10-17 in the passing department for 89 yards. Kings Mountain ended the night with 223 yards. On a quick defensive note, this is the first time Kings Mountain has been shut out all year. Crest moves to 6-0 and will now turn it's attention to a home game with St Stephens. Kings Mountain goes to 1-6 on the year, but will go after its second win at RS Central.

Chargers to compete in Shrine Bowl
For the sixth consecutive season, the North Carolina Shrine Bowl roster will include a Crest Charger.

Make that two members of the current Charger squad. Senior quarterback Travis Lee and defensive back Keenan Little are the latest Crest football standouts to be chosen for the annual clash against the South Carolina stars. The duo was the only players selected from the Cleveland-Gaston-Rutherford area.
This year’s contest will be played on Dec. 21 in Rock Hill, S.C.

WR Commits

By: Mike Farrell
Date: October 21, 2002

One of the top wideouts in the Atlantic area made his choice known on Monday night.

Shelby (N.C.) Crest wide receiver Travis Lee committed to the South Carolina Gamecocks over offers from Georgia, North Carolina, Clemson and others.

"I knew for a while now, but I didn't want to make the move just yet," said the 6-foot-1, 187-pounder. "It just started eating away at me a bit so I decided to commit. I just felt more comfortable at South Carolina, felt I had a better chance to play early and I knew some people there already. I also got along great with my recruiting coach. Coach (Dave) DeGuglielmo and I could just talk about anything for an hour. It wasn't always football."

Lee was a standout on the summer camp circuit this year, impressing at both USC and Georgia. In the end it came down to the Gamecocks and Dawgs.

"Now I get to play them every year," he said. "That's going to be fun. I like the coaches there and almost went there, but now they're a rival."

NCHSAA football qualifying explanation updated
North Carolina High School Athletic Association
October 15, 2002, 04:12 PM
This is a summary of the North Carolina High School Athletic Association football playoff format for the 2002 season. This is not meant to be comprehensive but should provide an appropriate overview.

Once the brackets are finalized, they will be posted on the NCHSAA's internet partner site, northcarolina.ihigh.com. This year, they will take longer to do with the volume involved. We hope for brackets to be released by about 6 p.m. Saturday. (which did not happen, billybob 10/23/2003)

THE CLASS OF 2004 !!!!!!!! KUDO'S TO ALL MY FRIENDS !
When the Crest High class of 2004 steps out of Porter Arena at Gardner-Webb University tonight, what will they remember about their senior year?

In a year in which football championships, baseball conference wins and marching band superiors would top the list of accomplishments, another characteristic could define this class of 290 students.

“I think it’s their generosity,” Principal Roger Harris said. “It’s not just one student or one event. It’s the whole group. They are so giving.”
