________________________________________
Glenn A. Owens was a practical, methodical, and meticulous individual. Besides being a husband, father, grandfather, detective, baseball player, gardener and coach, he was, above all, a "doer", an initiator who preferred to make things happen rather than wait for them to happen. Glenn was a charter member of the Board of Directors when the P.A.L was incorporated in 1981 and was the Vice President of the Cranford PAL Board at the time of his untimely death. Glenn Owens retired from the Union County Prosecutors Office in Elizabeth in 1991 as a Lieutenant of Investigations in charge of the Forensic Unit after serving 33 years. He was C.S.I. Union County long before the television program popularized the profession. Lt. Owens was a past president of the New Jersey State Identification Association, a former New Jersey State President and was the Union County President of the Retired Police and Fire Association. Glenn was also an instructor at the John H. Stamler Police Academy.
He played baseball for the Philadelphia Phillies from 1952 to 1956 as well as coaching baseball in the Cranford baseball leagues for over 15 years. In 2002, Glenn was inducted into the Cranford Sports Hall of Fame. Glenn Owens served honorably in the U.S. Army from 1957 to 1963. In addition, he volunteered over 2,000 hours of service to the Union County Master Gardeners of the Rutgers Cooperative Extension.
