HEMPSTEAD, N.Y., May 11, 2010 - James Madison sophomore shortstop Ashley Burnham (Danvers, Mass./Danvers High School) led a group of four JMU softball players honored by the Colonial Athletic Association Tuesday evening.Burnham was named the CAA Player of the Year at a pre-tournament banquet on the eve of the CAA Championship. Those honored were selected by a vote of the league's head coaches.
Burnham hit .312 while leading the team in hits (54), runs (36) and extra-base hits (17). She finished the regular season with eight doubles, one triple, eight home runs, 25 RBIs, 10 walks and 10 steals in 12 attempts. Her eight home runs ranks third in JMU history for a single season, trailing Julia Dominguez's (2006-09) 10 in 2006.
