Columbus Capitals Women's Ice Hockey: Welcome

The Columbus Capitals are a women's travel ice hockey team competing under the Central Ohio Girls' and Women's Hockey Association (COGWHA).

The team competes regionally against opponents from Cincinnati, Cleveland, Columbus, Dayton, Kent, Indianapolis and Pittsburgh and nationally against teams from Detroit, New York, and St. Louis.

The team travels to tournaments in the U.S. and Canada.

We are a founding member of the Pennsylvania-Ohio Women's Hockey Association (POWHA) and consistently compete in USA Hockey Nationals, placing as high as third.  We have competed at the B, C, and 30+ levels at Nationals.

Last year we finished in Third at Nationals beating the Rochester Edge and the (WHOA) Phoenix Scorpions. We also won the Upper Division POWHA Championship for the first time in team history (second place being the highest spot we had achieved prior to last season). 

We are always looking for new players to join us. Out practices are amazing, instructed by our Head Coach Frank. The travel is generally minimal with one overnight trip to Pittsburgh and two overnight trips to Cleveland, not including tournaments. This season we will travel for an overnight to St. Louis.

We will be attending Nationals (you must play 10 games to qualify) again this year and  playing in the POWHA (participation in four games minimum is required for playoffs).

All players get ice time, but the amount of ice time you get depends on many factors such as how many players we have (our game rosters are capped at 15, but we rarely meet this maximum, in fact if has only happened a couple of times over the last 3 seasons), the type of team we are playing, your performance in practice, your performance in the games, your past performance, your energy, the line you are on, injuries, penalties, etc.

Our games are usually three 15 minute, stop-time periods, with no overtime. Overtime is only employed in playoff and championship games.
