Cannons mash 14 hits in 6-3 victory over Twins
DENVER, Colo. (June 14, 2009) – The Colorado Cannons defeated the Colorado Twins by the score of 6-3 in NABA 18AAA action on Sunday morning, June 14th, at East High School in Denver.Starter Danny Hodges (5.0 IP, 3 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 5 BB, 2 K) surrendered just three hits and two earned runs in five innings of work to even his 2009 record at 1-1. Reliever Justin Ray (4.0 IP, 2 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 3 BB, 5 K), who yielded just two hits while fanning five, was equally effective while recording a four-inning save (1). Derek Herbig (triple, three RBI) and Miguel Loera (triple) each had three hits and Ted Jimenez went 2-for-4 with an RBI.
Ray went 1-for-1 with a run scored in a late-inning pinch hit appearance while John Steinhoff (1-for-4, double, SF) and Jeff Duggan each drove in a run. The Cannons, who improved to 2-5-1 with their second straight victory, rapped a season-high 14 hits.
Mike Fay homered and drove in two runs for the Twins (3-5-0) as starter Seth Lavigne (6.0 IP, 9 H, 5 R, 3 ER, 0 BB 4K) suffered the loss.
The Cannons are scheduled to play the Denver Grays on Sunday morning, June 21st, at 9:00 a.m. at Colorado Academy High School in Denver.
