Cannons beat themselves in 4-1 loss to Orioles
PARKER, Colo. (May 30, 2009) – The Denver Orioles defeated the Colorado Cannons by the score of 4-1 in NABA 18AAA action on Saturday afternoon, May 30th, at Double Angel Ballpark (varsity field) in Parker.Jason went 2-for-3 with two RBI for the Orioles as Tyler (9.0 IP, 4 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 1 BB, 14 K) scattered four hits, allowed just one walk and fanned 14 while going the distance. As a team, the Orioles stranded eight runners but stole five bases and rapped 11 hits.
The Cannons’ Danny Hodges (8.0 IP, 11 H, 4 R, 0 ER, 2 BB, 1 K; now 0-1), who walked just two and did not allow an earned run, also pitched a complete game. Infield errors once again plagued the Cannons (0-4-1 overall), who committed 11 errors in a 10-2 loss to the Colorado Twins on May 24th. A first-inning miscue by the Cannons led to two runs, and a pair of infield errors in the sixth and seventh innings also led to an unearned run coming across in both of those frames. Chris Garcia, Jeff Duggan (RBI), Miguel Loera and Derek Herbig (double) accounted for the Cannons’ hits.
In 11.0 innings pitched this year (two appearances), Hodges has compiled a 1.64 ERA. As a team, the Cannons now have a .188 batting average with twice as many strikeouts (60) as hits (30). The Cannons are also currently sporting a dreadful .888 team fielding percentage.
The Cannons are scheduled to play the Denver Rox on Sunday morning, May 31st, at 9:00 a.m. at Colorado Academy High School in Denver.
