DENVER, Colo. (June 9, 2013) – The Colorado Cannons defeated the Denver Rox by the score of 20-5 on Sunday afternoon, June 9, at the Machebeuf High School varsity baseball field. BOX SCORE
Jordan Riebel went 4-for-5 with a HR (1), double, four runs scored and four RBI as the Cannons (8-2) won their fifth straight game. Starting pitcher Josh Zavislan (5.0 IP, 3 H, 3 R, 0 ER, 2 BB, 3 K) did not allow an earned run in five innings while improving his season record to 2-1. Chris Garcia (3-for-5, double, four runs scored) and Ryan Hubbard (2-for-5, run) drove in three runs apiece while Ted Taylor (2-for-4, double, two runs) and Scott Day (two runs, two SB) each had two RBI.
Nate Barnes (4.0 IP, 7 H, 2 R, 1 ER, 1 BB, 2 K) tossed the final four innings to record his second save of the year. Barnes also went 2-for-4 with a double, two runs scored and an RBI. Jeff Duggan, Dustin Guyer, Ted Jimenez and John Steinhoff each had one RBI as the Cannons collected 18 hits against a foursome of Rox pitchers.
Catcher Jacob Maupin was relegated to the bench after his family jewels and a baseball crossed paths midway through the contest. Maupin, who has played through injuries, bumps and bruises throughout his Cannons career without the slightest complaint, was seen recovering nicely after the game with the assistance of a few adult beverages.
Starter Jordan Dismont (1.1 IP, 4 H, 7 R, 7 ER, 3 BB, 0 K) took the loss for the winless Rox (0-9).
The Cannons are scheduled to play a doubleheader on Sunday, June 16, at Bear Creek High School in Lakewood, squaring off against the undefeated Denver Bulls (10-0) at 9:00 a.m. followed by the Colorado Mighty's (2-8) at 12:30 p.m.
