Fee reduction or waiver requests should be addressed to the League President or Player Agent. Above all, no child will be denied the opportunity to play Little League. Due to the tight timeline the league faces for the approaching season, it's important that all children wishing to play be registered as soon as possible. Special Requests during Registration Beginning with the 2009 season, special requests can only be accepted for those players that are registered to play T-Ball and Lower Minors (Coach Pitch) baseball. All remaining teams within the league are formed by draft and therefore special requests cannot be noted for players at these levels. Some of you may be asking, what is a special request? Parents registering children to play T-Ball or coach pitch baseball may request their children be placed on a team with a specified friend or Manager. For those making requests, please keep them reasonable, one friend and/or Manager per request. The request needs to be stated in the Special Request section of the registration form. Please understand that requests are not guaranteed as the league needs to ensure that teams are evenly balanced within age groups, though we will do everything possible to grant the request. /////////////////////////////////////// League Website The website has been updated to reflect the upcoming 2009 season. All of the registration dates, required forms, dates for tryouts and All-Star information has been posted in the Handouts and Calendar sections. Softball Tryouts – Who Needs to Attend * All girls registered to play softball, 6 through 12 years old, with the exception of those already on a Majors team (Red Sox, A’s and Marlins), need to attend tryouts. * 13 & 14 year olds will be notified if tryouts are needed. /////////////////////////////////////// How are Teams Formed – (Most Frequent Question Asked by Parents) Baseball: There are 5 divisions (T-Ball, Lower Minors, Upper Minors, Majors & Junior League) * T-Ball: 5 & 6 year olds are assigned a roster spot on a team by the Player Agent. * Lower Minors (Coach Pitch): 6 & 7 year olds are assigned roster spots on a team by the PlayerAgent. 8 year olds who attend tryouts and are not subsequently drafted onto an Upper Minors (Player Pitch) team are assigned a roster spot on a Coach Pitch team by the Player Agent. Any 8 year old not attending tryouts will be assigned a roster spot on a Coach Pitch team. * Upper Minors (Player Pitch): 8 year olds that attend tryouts and receive a high enough tryout scoreare drafted onto a Player Pitch team. How high the score needs to be is determined by how many spots we have in Player Pitch for 8 yr olds. If there are 5 spots, then the 5 highest scoring 8 yr olds get the spots. 9, 10 & 11 yr olds that are not drafted onto a Majors team are drafted on an Upper Minors team. * Majors: 9, 10 & 11 year olds are eligible to be drafted onto these teams, considered the competitivelevel of Little League. Draft selections are based on tryout scores, so any 9, 10 or 11 yr old player not attending tryouts is ineligible for the Majors. All 12 yr olds play at the Majors level. All players that were on a Majors team last year play at the Majors level again this year. * Junior League: Depends on whether we have enough 13, 14 & 15 yr olds for one or two teams. Ifwe have enough for two, then players attend tryouts and a draft is held. If we have enough for one team, then there are no tryouts and the registered players form the one team.
Softball: There are three divisions (Minors, Majors & Junior League) * Minors: Ages 6 through 8 attend tryouts and then are drafted onto a team. Ages 9 through 11 attendtryouts, and if subsequently are not drafted onto a Majors team, they are drafted onto a Minors team. /////////////////////////////////////// Inter-League Play Last season our league started limited inter-league play with Charles Town Ranson Little League at the Upper Minors and Majors baseball levels. This season we will expand the number of inter-league games with CTRLL at these levels and begin some limited inter-league play with CTRLL in softball. CTRLL has an excellent complex of fields with recently added lights on their Majors field and a just built concession stand. The CTRLL park is approximately 20 minutes from Berryville and is located northeast of Charles Town. The league is aware of the distance and will ensure that inter-league games are evenly spread amongst our involved teams. Evening inter-league games during the week at CTRLL, scheduled to begin at 7:30pm, will be limited for the Upper Minors. The Majors baseball teams will play a full inter-league schedule, much as the Majors softball teams have done the previous seasons. However, the schedule will be built to ensure that no one team has an unfair burden. The majority of inter-league games at the Upper Minors level are projected to occur on Saturdays. The players involved with the inter-league games last season enjoyed the games and especially enjoyed playing at the different parks. We hope to build on last season and have an exciting inter-league schedule for our players. Majors Baseball As stated above, the Majors baseball teams will play a full inter-league schedule against the CTRLL teams. Standings will be kept throughout the season. During the first week of June, a tournament will be played amongst the CCLL and CTRLL Majors teams with seedings based on the team’s seasonending records. The inter-league schedule will include the above stated 7:30pm games at CTRLL and a scheduled game on Saturday, May 2nd (Apple Blossom weekend). The May 2nd games will bescheduled as early in the day as possible. No other baseball teams will play this weekend other than our Majors teams: Orioles, Indians, Nationals and Yankees. Minors Baseball Tournament As was done last year, the league has discussed holding a Minors baseball tournament along with CTRLL. This would involve players from our Upper Minors teams that are not selected for League All-Star teams. If held, this tournament would be played in late June and would be played over one weekend. More information on this will be available in the coming months.
Player Clinics There will be two free of charge Pre-Season Warm-Up Clinics for baseball and softball players between the ages of 6 and 12. The clinics will take place at the Rec Center on the following: Saturday, February 7th, Rec Center Saturday, February, 14th, Rec Center* ages 6 to 9, 9am to 11am * ages 6 to 9, 9am to 11am * ages 10 to 12, 11am to 1pm * ages 10 to 12, 11am to 1pm Registration forms may be dropped off at these times. The clinics are a great chance for players to warm-up prior to tryouts starting on the 21st. The clinics are open to all children in Clarke County. /////////////////////////////////////// League Season Program New this year, CCLL will have a season program featuring all of the teams’ pictures, advertising and sponsor information. Various levels of advertising and family sponsor pages are available. For those wishing to purchase space in the program please download the program form from the Handouts section of the league website. For further information, contact Coaching Coordinator Bob McNiel. /////////////////////////////////////// Fundraising & Sponsorships CCLL operations are funded primarily through three sources, registration fees, sponsorships, and fundraising, neither of which alone provides sufficient funding for the season. League expenses are many, to include uniforms, insurance, league charter from Little League, field preparations and leasing of the fields for practice and playing time. To cover these expenses the league will have the following: Sponsorships: There are various levels of sponsorships, from banner to full team. If you or anybusiness would like to become a sponsor, download the sponsor form from the website. For further information, contact board member Brett Sowder. Spaghetti Dinner/Basket Bingo: The league will hold a fundraising dinner and basket bingo on Saturday, April 11th at the Ruritan Building, County Fairgrounds. Advance purchase tickets will beavailable in the near future. Info will be available through the teams once practice begins in March. Raffle: As in the past, the league will hold a raffle at Closing Ceremonies with the prize to be a largescreen High Definition TV. Players will be given tickets to sell once the teams are formed in March. The league asks that any unsold tickets be returned promptly so that they may be re-distributed. County Fair – Pitching Booth: Every year at the County Fair the league has a pitching booth set upwith a radar gun. Individuals pay $1 for 3 balls and get to see how fast they can throw. /////////////////////////////////////// |
