Colonels Fans,

The 2009 Chip Durham High School Exposure Camp was a resounding success. On November 24, over 100 high school baseball players came to the beautiful Nicholls State University campus and enjoyed a full day of skill instruction and evaluation on newly renovated Ray E. Didier field. Coaches and professional scouts from Louisiana, Mississippi, and Alabama directed the campers along with the Colonels' coaches and a few select players (including former Colonels' standout and Tampa Bay Ray organization member Chris Murrill). The camp enjoyed a great turnout, and the positive attitudes and enthusiasm of all the participants was contagious. "I was very pleased with this year's camp", Head Coach Chip Durham commented. "Each player represented himself and his school well. The commitment to getting better by players from all over the state is obvious, and this highlights why high school baseball is so good in this state. I think there is no question that the 2009 Exposure Camp has been our best to date, and all the credit for that goes to the players we had here and the high quality of coaches who ran our camp."

The morning session began with NSU Head Strength and Conditioning Coach Brian Thomas putting the campers through a performance enhancing stretching and running (agility) routine, which then led to a skill developing rotation. The players were divided into groups according to position and rotated through stations (with their coaches) set up to improve their offensive, defensive, and speed fundamentals. Also included was a 20 minute session with Coach Thomas in Nicholls' weight room facility, where Thomas lectured on proper strength and conditioning techniques as well as the importance of proper nutrition. After NSU Recruiting Coordinator Seth Thibodeaux spoke to the campers about getting the most out of the recruiting process, the camp broke for lunch provided by the Nicholls coaches.

The afternoon session consisted of each camper being put through an intense, professional-style showcase intended to highlight not only skills the individual player excels in, but also to show where improvement is needed. Each camper was able to pitch in front of college coaches, as well as show their defensive and offensive skills, including glove-work, footwork, and arm strength. After speaking about the importance hard work, effort, and enthusiasm, the coaches broke camp and the players ended a successful day.

Special thanks from the Colonels coaching staff goes out to the coaches from Lousiana State University-Shreveport, Bossier Parish CC, Alabama Southern CC, Delgado CC, Millsaps University, Belhaven College, Meridian CC, Jones County JC, Brian Thomas, and Chris Murrill. The Colonels staff would also like to recognize former Colonels and nine-year Major Leaguer Scott Sanders, who was very visible at camp and also spoke to the camp's pitchers at length about what it takes to make it to the next level. If not for these guys camp would not have been anywhere near as successful. Thanks for all your hard work.

Chip Durham Baseball Camps would like to extend to all Colonels and baseball fans a Merry Christmas and a happy New Year! We will break for the holidays, but will be back for the spring with a whole new slate of youth and high school camps. Let us know if you have any questions.
