CHEYENNE LITTLE LEAGUE

9-10 YR OLD ALL STARS

NEVADA STATE CHAMPIONS

Cheyenne Little League defeated Silverado 12-8 to capture the Nevada State Championship! It was one for the ages! Everyone that was there was treated with a game to remember!

A BATTLE to the END!!

Cheyenne got it started early with a Homerun in the first inning by Noah Parker. to take a 1-0 lead. In the bottom of the inning, Silverado's Homerun hitter Turner answered with a solo shot of his own. With the score tied 1-1, Silverado took early control  with some timely hits to take a 4-1 lead. Cheyenne had no answer against the Silverado pitcher. Still trailing 4-1 in the top of the 5th inning. Isaiah San Nicholas led off with a single, Elijah Glaze than got a bunt single to put runners on 1st and 2nd with no outs. That was the spark plug Cheyenne needed to put some runs on the board and take a 5-4 lead. Silverado quickly answered in the bottom of the 5th inning to take a 6-5 lead and putting them on the brink and forcing a "If Championship game"! Edarian Williams led off the top of the 6th with a single to center to give Cheyenne hope and the tying run on. After a walk and two outs later, up came Trevin Reynolds. On a 2-2 pitch, two outs he scorched a line drive 3-run Homerun to give Cheyenne the lead 8-6, following Trevin's Homerun was Noah Parker as he launched his second Homerun of the night, by going back to back!! Cheyenne went on to score 7 in the inning to take a 12-6 lead going to the bottom of the 6th inning. Silverado put some runners on and got a 2 run Homerun in the bottom of the inning. Ryan Merino got two batters to pop up and struck out the last batter to win the game and Give Cheyenne the State Championship. Trevin Reynolds pitched very well and Ryan came up huge and gave quality innings of relief pitching to finish the ball game! This is a Special Group of Players!! Every Single one of them deserves praise for this accomplishment!

7/25/2009 - Saturday, Cheyenne defeated Silverado, 17-7

Cheyenne Slams their way into the Championship Game!!

Silverado came to play, with Cheyenne scoring 2 runs in the first inning, Silverado responded with 3 runs in the bottom of the inning with a 3 run Homerun to take the lead. Silverado was up by a score of 5-4 when Jaxson Otis came up with the bases loaded and launched his Grand Slam over the fence in right center field, to take a 8-5 lead and Cheyenne never looked back. Cheyenne erupted for 9 runs in the inning to take a 11-5 lead. Silverado was able to come back from one Grand Slam against Washoe, but didn't have enough against a resiliant Cheyenne Team. Ryan Merino started the game for Cheyenne and was relieved by Kyle Horton who came up big for Cheyenne as he shut down the hitting attack of Silverado. He pitched 4 innings of great baseball. Noah Parker came in and closed the doors on Silverado's chances. Everyone hit today, Trevor Berekemeyer, Justin Lee and Isaiah San Nicholas all got hits to contribute to the other hot hitters! Trevin Reynolds hit his second homerun of the tournament. This was a Team effort!! All 13 players playing as ONE!! Now lets go and Bring Cheyenne Home the State Title!! Go Cheyenne! Thank you everyone coming out and supporting this group of Players!!! They are Special!!

7/24/2009 Friday - Cheyenne defeated Elko, 20-2

Cheyenne Blast Elko 20-2

It was Fast and Furious, Trevin Reynolds started the barrage in top of the first inning  with a 2-run Home Run bomb to center field. Ryan Merino and Kyle Horton also added Homeruns.  It was hit after hit, every single player contributed, Trevin Reynolds hit for the cycle, Noah Parker went 4 for 4, Elijah Glaze went 2 for 2, and Edarian Williams went 3 for 4 and also had a few stellar plays at 2nd base. It shows the hard work each kid has put in over the last two weeks. One win down and two more to go! Next up Silverado out of District 2. They survived a barn burner edging out Washoe,  District 1 by the score of 13-12. Hope to see you all out at the next game!! 7/11/2009 Saturday Mt Ridge eliminated Cheyenne

All-Stars' Run Ends, Lose 9-8 in Championship Bout

Things looked pretty good for four innings into the championship game Saturday night at Mountain Ridge Park.  The Cheyenne 11-year-old All-Stars held a comfortable 8-2 lead, starter Nick Parr was looking brilliant on the hill, Adam Mitchell and Hayden LeCates just got done hitting home runs - LeCates' a grand slam - and our defensive was playing solid baseball.

Then, the Mountain Ridge All-Stars bats came alive.  The eventual District 4 champs erupted for four, fifth inning runs to pull within two, 8-6.  Their four runs came on a grand slam dinger of their own.  Two more Mountain Ridge home runs in the top of the sixth, leading to three runs, put them in the lead, 9-8.

To keep their championship hopes alive (A victory for Cheyenne would have forced the "if necessary" game Monday night) Cheyenne needed one run to send the game to extra innings or two runs to win.  With one out in the last chance sixth, AJ Gourrier tapped a grounder toward first base, avoided the tag, and was called "safe" by the field umpire.  However, the plate umpire over-ruled the play and said Gourrier was tagged.  A controversial call that will be talked about for years.  So with two outs, Cheyenne's hopes were fading.  Jacob Radmanovich drew a walk to spark hope but LeCates, who had two singles and the towering grand slam home run in his previous at bats, flew out to right-center field to end the game and Cheyenne's season.  The Mountain Ridge All-Stars - who both of Cheyenne's losses in the tournament were in the hands of - were the District 4 champs, winning 9-8.

The game was scoreless through two innings until Mountain Ridge tallied two unearned runs off two hits and two Cheyenne errors.  Cheyenne retaliated with one run of their own in the bottom of the third off back-to-back-to-back singles by Gourrier, Radmanovich, and LeCates.

After Parr shut down Mountain Ridge in the top of the fourth, Cheyenne went on their seven-run blitz.  Key hits included the home runs by Mitchell and LeCates and singles by Oscar Carrillo and Brandon Lite.  You know the rest.

Parr pitched five innings giving up just seven hits while striking out five.  Robbie Galvan picked up the loss.

Well... our season has ended but what a great effort put forth by our 13 talented ballplayers.  You should all feel very proud!  Thanks to our coaches, team mom (and photographer) Nancy Wyman and all the support from our fans.

Just wait until next year!

7/10/2009 FridayCheyenne eliminated Lone Mountain

Cheyenne 11 Year Old All Stars advance to Championship Game!

Another Heart Stopping Victory!!

The Cheyenne 11-year-old All-Stars moved one step closer to State with a 10-8 victory over the Lone Mountain All-Stars Friday night. But it wasn't easy.

Cheyenne lead by six runs, 10-4, heading into the top of the sixth and final inning when Lone Mountain erupted for four unanswered runs on two hits, a couple of walks, a few errors and some mental mistakes.  But Anthony Golemme put a stop to that by throwing three consecutive strikes to end Lone Mountain's rally and end the game.

But let's focus on the positive.  For starters, Cheyenne out-hit Lone Mountain, 16-6, including three hits by Jacob Radmanovich (2 singles; 1 double; 2 RBI's; 1 run scored) and Hayden LeCates (3 singles; 3 RBI's); Two hits by Golemme (1 single; 1 double;1 RBI; 2 runs scored), AJ Gourrier (2 singles; 1 RBI; 2 runs scored), Adam Mitchell (2 singles; 1 RBI; 1 run scored), Jake Peeler (2 bunt singles; 2 runs scored); And one hit for Micah Higa (1 double; 1 RBI; 1 run scored) and Oscar Carrillo (1 single; 1 run scored).

Cheyenne simply dominated at the plate.

Defensively, Radmanovich started and picked up the victory pitching four and two-thirds innings of brilliant baseball.  "Radi" recorded eight strikeouts while giving up just four hits before reaching his pitch count limit.  Golemme picked up the save giving up just two hits while striking out a pair in his one and one-third innings.

Lone Mountain scored first picking up a run in the top of the first but Cheyenne was quick to respond with a run of their own.  With one out, Radmanovich doubled off the center field fence - three feet to the right and it would have been a dinger.  LeCates moved him to third with a single then Mitchell scored "Radi" with a sacrifice fly.

Cheyenne took a 3-1 lead in the second stanza off singles by Gourrier, Radmanovich, and LeCates.  After Lone Mountain climbed back to within one in the third, 3-2, Cheyenne exploded for four runs in the bottom half to make it 7-2.  Key hits came off the bats of Mitchell, Peeler, Golemme, Gourrier, and Radmanovich.

Our All-Stars jumped ahead by seven in the fourth inning, 9-2, after Mitchell and Peeler both singled followed by back-to-back doubles by Higa and Golemme.  But Lone Mountain wouldn't go away.  They retaliated with two runs in the top of the fifth to make it 9-4.  But our boys in blue weren't finished either.  Cheyenne picked up their tenth run in the bottom of the fifth when Carrillo led off with a single and scored on an RBI single by LeCates.  We all know what happened in the top of the sixth...

Now it's on to the championship game.  Our Cheyenne All-Stars must win two games against Mountain Ridge to claim top spot.  Game time is - you got it - 7:30pm, back to field 3.

7/9/2009 Thursday - Cheyenne eliminated Summerlin North, 11-6

Team Effort Lifts Cheyenne Over Summerlin North, 11-6

Thirteen Cheyenne 11-year-old All-Stars contributed to a 11-6 victory over the Summerlin North All-Stars Thursday night advancing to Friday night action against the Lone Mountain All-Stars, 14-3 losers to Mountain Ridge.  Game time is the same time... 7:30pm but this time on field 2.

After a scoreless first two innings Cheyenne jumped out to a 5-0 third inning lead.  Key bats in the inning included a single and run scored for Jacob Radmanovich; a single, RBI, and run scored for Adam Mitchell; a single, two RBI's, and run scored for Jake Peeler; and an RBI double for Robbie Galvan.  Summerlin North didn't like that.  They retaliated with five runs of their own in the bottom of the third stanza to tie the game.

In the top of the fifth Cheyenne took the lead, 6-5, when AJ Gourrier stole home when the Summerlin hurler wasn't looking.

Cheyenne took a commanding lead scoring another five runs in the top of the fifth.  Galvan led off with a towering home run deep over the left-center field fence.  Then after Evan Lewis was hit by a pitch and Micah Higa and Nick Parr walked to load the bases, Radmanovich slapped a single between shortstop and third to score Lewis.  Hayden LeCates picked up an RBI sacrifice fly scoring Higa and Mitchell doubled off the center field fence scoring Parr and LeCates.

Mitchell started on the hill for Cheyenne and threw extremely well.  Mitchell recorded nine strikeouts, allowed just three hits, and picked up the victory in three and two-thirds innings.  Parr then went to work for the next two innings allowing just one hit while fanning three.  DJ Wyman came into the ballgame with two outs in the bottom of the last inning, yielded a hit, then recorded a strike out to end the game.

Cheyenne out-hit Summerlin, 10-5.  Radmanovich, Mitchell, and Galvan picked up three hits apiece and Peeler had one.

Defensively, Anthony Golemme and Higa did a great job behind the plate, Radmanovich completed an unassisted double play, and Peeler made two great catches at second.

See you on the fields...

7/8/2009 Wednesday - Cheyenne eliminated Spring Valley, 7-6

Whew... Our All-Stars Play Another Day!

Every Little League ballplayer lives to play in a game like the one the Cheyenne 11-year-old All-Stars played in Wednesday night.  Especially when you win the game.

That's just what our All-Stars did at the District 4 baseball tournament at Mountain Ridge Park.  Cheyenne, down by two runs in the bottom of the sixth and final inning, rallied to score three runs to win, 7-6, over rival Spring Valley All-Stars.  It was a moment of deja vu.  If you recall last year, our 10-year-old team - which includes many of the same players as this years team - fell victim to Spring Valley in the championship game after a late inning rally by our opponent.

Spring Valley jumped out to a 3-0 top of the first inning lead after a couple of hits and an untimely Cheyenne error.  Would it be one of those days?  Brandon Lite didn't want it to be.  Lite, Cheyenne's lead-off hitter, took a 1-1 pitch over the left field fence in the bottom of the first to pull the All-Stars to within two, 3-1.  It was Lite's first home run in his young career.  Cheyenne added one more run in the first after Hayden LeCates slammed a ground rule double, advanced to third on a wild pitch and scored on a single by Evan Lewis.

After a scoreless second inning, Spring Valley took a 6-2 lead after a three run blast deep over the center field fence.  Cheyenne didn't panic though.  In the bottom of the third, our All-Stars scored two runs off the bats of LeCates and Adam Mitchell who both doubled.  Jake Peeler picked up his second hit of the game but was left stranded at third.

Cheyenne starter Robbie Galvan started on the hill pitching three innings.  He gave up just six hits while striking out five Spring Valley hitters.  Enter pitching ace Jacob Radmanovich.  The hard throwing right-hander came into battle in the top of the fourth and shut down Spring Valley yielding just one hit while striking out six.  He got help from right fielder DJ Wyman who gunned down a runner trying to race to third base.  His perfect throw put an end to Spring Valley's short-lived sixth inning rally.

Cheyenne knew what they had to do in the bottom of the sixth and final inning.  Score two to tie, three to win, or go home.  AJ Gourrier and Wyman led off the inning with consecutive walks then after two consecutive strikeouts, LeCates was hit by a pitch to load the bases and set the stage for Cheyenne's clean-up hitter Mitchell.  The blond bomber calmly - okay, not so calmly - stepped up to the plate and slapped his first pitch to shallow right field just out of the reach of the second baseman.  The hit scored Gourrier and Peeler (pinch running for Wyman) then a wild throw from the catcher to the third baseman rolled into left field scoring LeCates and the winning run.

The victory was sealed and Cheyenne got their revenge.  It wasn't pretty but our All-Stars got the job done!

Cheyenne now take on the Summerlin North All-Stars - who eliminated Peccole, 17-7, Wednesday night - in another elimination game.  Action begins Thursday night at 7:30pm on field 3.

Cheyenne lives to play another game.  See you at the fields...

7/7/2009 Tueday - Mountain Ridge defeated Cheyenne

Cheyenne Drops Nailbiter to Hosts, 8-7

Our Cheyenne 11-Year-Old All-Stars fell victim to the hosts of the District 4 Tournament Tuesday night, losing 8-7 to the Mountain Ridge All-Stars.  The loss now sends Cheyenne to the loser's bracket.  We will face the Spring Valley All-Stars at 7:30pm Wednesday night on field 3.  The match-up will be a grudge match after Cheyenne's heartbreaking loss to the Spring Valley All-Stars in the championship game last year.  So far this tournament Spring Valley has lost to Lone Mountain, 15-2, and defeated Western, 10-6.

The ball was pretty much in our court after the first inning as we held the lead until the bottom of the fifth inning when Mountain Ridge skated across four runs - three unearned - after four costly Cheyenne errors to take an 8-6 lead.  Cheyenne managed one run in the top of the sixth after Oscar Carrillo walked and scored on a sacrifice fly by Adam Mitchell.  The rally ran short, however, and the game was over.

With two outs in the top of the first stanza Cheyenne took a 2-0 lead after Hayden LeCates singled, Mitchell doubled, Robbie Galvan singled to drive in LeCates, and Micah Higa doubled, with a shot to the right-center field fence, to score Mitchell.  Mountain Ridge responded with three runs in the bottom of the first.

In the top of the second, Evan Lewis got the ball rolling for Cheyenne with a lead off single then DJ Wyman smacked a doubled to the left field fence, scoring Lewis.  Cheyenne added two more runs after Jacob Radmanovich scored Wyman on a sacrifice fly and Mitchell doubled to score LeCates who reached on an error.  Cheyenne now led, 5-3.  After a scoreless bottom of the second for Mountain Ridge and scoreless top of the third for Cheyenne, the hosts plated one run in the bottom of the third to pull within one, 5-4.

Cheyenne went to work again in the top of the fourth plating another run off the bat of Radmanovich, who doubled and scored on an error.  Our All-Stars now led, 6-4.  Then came the bottom of the fifth when Mountain Ridge scored their four runs.

Cheyenne out-hit Mountain Ridge, 10-5.  Mitchell led the way with a 3-for-3 performance including two doubles, a single, and two RBI's.  Galvan, Higa, LeCates, Lewis, Jake Peeler, Radmanovich, and Wyman had one hit each.

LeCates started on the hill for Cheyenne pitching two innings.  Anthony Golemme pitched the next two frames, and Radmanovich pitched two-thirds and unfortunately suffered the loss.  Mitchell came in and pitched to one hitter before the final out was recorded.

7/6/09 Monday - Cheyenne defeated Red Rock, 12-3

Cheyenne LL 11-Year-Old All-Stars Blast Redrock, 12-3!

The Cheyenne Little League 11-Year-Old All-Stars opened the 2009 District 4 tournament with a convincing, 12-3, victory over the Redrock All-Stars Monday night under warm conditions.  The All-Stars now advance to Tuesday night's action against the host Mountain Ridge All-Stars who edged the Peccole All-Stars, 7-3.  The game will be at 7:30pm at Mountain Ridge Park on field 3.The 11 All-Stars rode the awesome pitching performance of Nick Parr who registered 10 strikeouts while yielding just three hits.  Jacob Radmanovich picked up the save striking out three Redrock hitters in the sixth and final inning. The 11 All-Stars were just as brilliant from the plate as they out-hit Redrock, 14-4. Radmanovich knocked in four of the All-Star 12 runs with a 2-for-4 performance including a three-run double.  Hayden LeCates and Adam Mitchell also had two hits apiece including a towering home run each.  Robbie Galvan and Parr also picked up a pair of hits while Anthony Golemme, AJ Gourrier, Jake Peeler, and DJ Wyman contributed to the cause with one hit apiece. The game was scoreless through two innings until Cheyenne tallied two in the top of the third.  Parr walked and scored on a Radmanovich single then Radmanovich scored on a Redrock error.  Cheyenne took a 3-0 lead in the fourth when Wyman singled to right field and scored on a wild pitch and another Redrock error.  After picking up another run in the fifth stanza, off Mitchell's blast over the deep left field fence, the All-Stars erupted for eight runs on eight hits in the top of the sixth to seal the deal.  Redrock managed three unearned runs in the bottom of the sixth but it wasn't nearly enough to phase the Cheyenne 11-Year-Old All Stars.
