7/9/2009 Thursday - Cheyenne eliminated Summerlin North, 11-6
Team Effort Lifts Cheyenne Over Summerlin North, 11-6
Thirteen Cheyenne 11-year-old All-Stars contributed to a 11-6 victory over the Summerlin North All-Stars Thursday night advancing to Friday night action against the Lone Mountain All-Stars, 14-3 losers to Mountain Ridge. Game time is the same time... 7:30pm but this time on field 2.
After a scoreless first two innings Cheyenne jumped out to a 5-0 third inning lead. Key bats in the inning included a single and run scored for Jacob Radmanovich; a single, RBI, and run scored for Adam Mitchell; a single, two RBI's, and run scored for Jake Peeler; and an RBI double for Robbie Galvan. Summerlin North didn't like that. They retaliated with five runs of their own in the bottom of the third stanza to tie the game.
In the top of the fifth Cheyenne took the lead, 6-5, when AJ Gourrier stole home when the Summerlin hurler wasn't looking.
Cheyenne took a commanding lead scoring another five runs in the top of the fifth. Galvan led off with a towering home run deep over the left-center field fence. Then after Evan Lewis was hit by a pitch and Micah Higa and Nick Parr walked to load the bases, Radmanovich slapped a single between shortstop and third to score Lewis. Hayden LeCates picked up an RBI sacrifice fly scoring Higa and Mitchell doubled off the center field fence scoring Parr and LeCates.
Mitchell started on the hill for Cheyenne and threw extremely well. Mitchell recorded nine strikeouts, allowed just three hits, and picked up the victory in three and two-thirds innings. Parr then went to work for the next two innings allowing just one hit while fanning three. DJ Wyman came into the ballgame with two outs in the bottom of the last inning, yielded a hit, then recorded a strike out to end the game.
Cheyenne out-hit Summerlin, 10-5. Radmanovich, Mitchell, and Galvan picked up three hits apiece and Peeler had one.
Defensively, Anthony Golemme and Higa did a great job behind the plate, Radmanovich completed an unassisted double play, and Peeler made two great catches at second.
See you on the fields...
7/8/2009 Wednesday - Cheyenne eliminated Spring Valley, 7-6
Whew... Our All-Stars Play Another Day!
Every Little League ballplayer lives to play in a game like the one the Cheyenne 11-year-old All-Stars played in Wednesday night. Especially when you win the game.
That's just what our All-Stars did at the District 4 baseball tournament at Mountain Ridge Park. Cheyenne, down by two runs in the bottom of the sixth and final inning, rallied to score three runs to win, 7-6, over rival Spring Valley All-Stars. It was a moment of deja vu. If you recall last year, our 10-year-old team - which includes many of the same players as this years team - fell victim to Spring Valley in the championship game after a late inning rally by our opponent.
Spring Valley jumped out to a 3-0 top of the first inning lead after a couple of hits and an untimely Cheyenne error. Would it be one of those days? Brandon Lite didn't want it to be. Lite, Cheyenne's lead-off hitter, took a 1-1 pitch over the left field fence in the bottom of the first to pull the All-Stars to within two, 3-1. It was Lite's first home run in his young career. Cheyenne added one more run in the first after Hayden LeCates slammed a ground rule double, advanced to third on a wild pitch and scored on a single by Evan Lewis.
After a scoreless second inning, Spring Valley took a 6-2 lead after a three run blast deep over the center field fence. Cheyenne didn't panic though. In the bottom of the third, our All-Stars scored two runs off the bats of LeCates and Adam Mitchell who both doubled. Jake Peeler picked up his second hit of the game but was left stranded at third.
Cheyenne starter Robbie Galvan started on the hill pitching three innings. He gave up just six hits while striking out five Spring Valley hitters. Enter pitching ace Jacob Radmanovich. The hard throwing right-hander came into battle in the top of the fourth and shut down Spring Valley yielding just one hit while striking out six. He got help from right fielder DJ Wyman who gunned down a runner trying to race to third base. His perfect throw put an end to Spring Valley's short-lived sixth inning rally.
Cheyenne knew what they had to do in the bottom of the sixth and final inning. Score two to tie, three to win, or go home. AJ Gourrier and Wyman led off the inning with consecutive walks then after two consecutive strikeouts, LeCates was hit by a pitch to load the bases and set the stage for Cheyenne's clean-up hitter Mitchell. The blond bomber calmly - okay, not so calmly - stepped up to the plate and slapped his first pitch to shallow right field just out of the reach of the second baseman. The hit scored Gourrier and Peeler (pinch running for Wyman) then a wild throw from the catcher to the third baseman rolled into left field scoring LeCates and the winning run.
The victory was sealed and Cheyenne got their revenge. It wasn't pretty but our All-Stars got the job done!
Cheyenne now take on the Summerlin North All-Stars - who eliminated Peccole, 17-7, Wednesday night - in another elimination game. Action begins Thursday night at 7:30pm on field 3.
Cheyenne lives to play another game. See you at the fields...
7/7/2009 Tueday - Mountain Ridge defeated Cheyenne
Cheyenne Drops Nailbiter to Hosts, 8-7
Our Cheyenne 11-Year-Old All-Stars fell victim to the hosts of the District 4 Tournament Tuesday night, losing 8-7 to the Mountain Ridge All-Stars. The loss now sends Cheyenne to the loser's bracket. We will face the Spring Valley All-Stars at 7:30pm Wednesday night on field 3. The match-up will be a grudge match after Cheyenne's heartbreaking loss to the Spring Valley All-Stars in the championship game last year. So far this tournament Spring Valley has lost to Lone Mountain, 15-2, and defeated Western, 10-6.
The ball was pretty much in our court after the first inning as we held the lead until the bottom of the fifth inning when Mountain Ridge skated across four runs - three unearned - after four costly Cheyenne errors to take an 8-6 lead. Cheyenne managed one run in the top of the sixth after Oscar Carrillo walked and scored on a sacrifice fly by Adam Mitchell. The rally ran short, however, and the game was over.
With two outs in the top of the first stanza Cheyenne took a 2-0 lead after Hayden LeCates singled, Mitchell doubled, Robbie Galvan singled to drive in LeCates, and Micah Higa doubled, with a shot to the right-center field fence, to score Mitchell. Mountain Ridge responded with three runs in the bottom of the first.
In the top of the second, Evan Lewis got the ball rolling for Cheyenne with a lead off single then DJ Wyman smacked a doubled to the left field fence, scoring Lewis. Cheyenne added two more runs after Jacob Radmanovich scored Wyman on a sacrifice fly and Mitchell doubled to score LeCates who reached on an error. Cheyenne now led, 5-3. After a scoreless bottom of the second for Mountain Ridge and scoreless top of the third for Cheyenne, the hosts plated one run in the bottom of the third to pull within one, 5-4.
Cheyenne went to work again in the top of the fourth plating another run off the bat of Radmanovich, who doubled and scored on an error. Our All-Stars now led, 6-4. Then came the bottom of the fifth when Mountain Ridge scored their four runs.
Cheyenne out-hit Mountain Ridge, 10-5. Mitchell led the way with a 3-for-3 performance including two doubles, a single, and two RBI's. Galvan, Higa, LeCates, Lewis, Jake Peeler, Radmanovich, and Wyman had one hit each.
LeCates started on the hill for Cheyenne pitching two innings. Anthony Golemme pitched the next two frames, and Radmanovich pitched two-thirds and unfortunately suffered the loss. Mitchell came in and pitched to one hitter before the final out was recorded.
7/6/09 Monday - Cheyenne defeated Red Rock, 12-3
Cheyenne LL 11-Year-Old All-Stars Blast Redrock, 12-3!
The Cheyenne Little League 11-Year-Old All-Stars opened the 2009 District 4 tournament with a convincing, 12-3, victory over the Redrock All-Stars Monday night under warm conditions. The All-Stars now advance to Tuesday night's action against the host Mountain Ridge All-Stars who edged the Peccole All-Stars, 7-3. The game will be at 7:30pm at Mountain Ridge Park on field 3.The 11 All-Stars rode the awesome pitching performance of Nick Parr who registered 10 strikeouts while yielding just three hits. Jacob Radmanovich picked up the save striking out three Redrock hitters in the sixth and final inning. The 11 All-Stars were just as brilliant from the plate as they out-hit Redrock, 14-4. Radmanovich knocked in four of the All-Star 12 runs with a 2-for-4 performance including a three-run double. Hayden LeCates and Adam Mitchell also had two hits apiece including a towering home run each. Robbie Galvan and Parr also picked up a pair of hits while Anthony Golemme, AJ Gourrier, Jake Peeler, and DJ Wyman contributed to the cause with one hit apiece. The game was scoreless through two innings until Cheyenne tallied two in the top of the third. Parr walked and scored on a Radmanovich single then Radmanovich scored on a Redrock error. Cheyenne took a 3-0 lead in the fourth when Wyman singled to right field and scored on a wild pitch and another Redrock error. After picking up another run in the fifth stanza, off Mitchell's blast over the deep left field fence, the All-Stars erupted for eight runs on eight hits in the top of the sixth to seal the deal. Redrock managed three unearned runs in the bottom of the sixth but it wasn't nearly enough to phase the Cheyenne 11-Year-Old All Stars.
