The Charter Lady Lions won back to back games this weekend at the USSSA "Breakout the Bats" softball tournament at the Jackson Sportsplex, and lost one by an "arm pit".
The Lady Lions defeated the NEA Knockouts, from Pocahontas, AR in the final game Saturday night 11-4, scoring eleven runs on ten hits, two of which were homeruns by Mckinley Farley and Caylan Arnold. It was the first homerun for both girls this season. Both Farley and Arnold were two for three. Lauren Schmidt went two for two, with two singles and a walk, while Morgan Hardin, Clare Taylor, Ansley Ross, snd Mary Ashton Morris each added singles. Clare Taylor picked up her first win of the year, throwing three innings, and only allowing four runs on two hits, while striking out six.
In the first game on Sunday, the Lady Lions picked up another win, defeating Xtreme Chaos 7-5, scoring seven runs on five hits. Morgan Hardin, Mckinley Farley, Lauren Schmidt, and Skye Julian all contributed singles, while Caylan Arnold added a triple of her own. McKinley Farley also picked up her first win of the season, striking out six and only walking one in four innings of work.
Then in the second game on Sunday, the Lady Lions faced Rage, from Ripley, TN. With two outs and trailing by one run in the third, the Lady Lions attempted to tie the game on a pass ball, when a wild pitch got by the catcher and took an unfortunate bounce up into the umpire's arm pit. The ball bounced right back to the catcher, where she was able to tag the runner for the final out of the inning. The Lady Lions ran out of time, losing the game 5-4 with time expiring in the fourth inning.
"All in all, I was very happy with the way we played this weekend. Our girls played hard every game, and competed. We got down early in few games, but they did not give up." coach Russ Bratton said. "We have come a long way, and I am confident that we will continue to get better."
