Charles Town Ranson Youth Baseball/Softball Complex is located at Sam Michael’s Park on 235 Sam Michael’s Lane. The entrance to the park is conveniently located off Job Corps Road less then 3 miles from the new Ransons shopping center.
Over the last three years CTR has been renovating the complex. Two season ago a large junior league field with bull pens was completed affording the children ages 13 to 18 to have a their own home field. Up to that point our families had to travel for all games with no home games. Last spring we finish off the field with dugouts and yellow safety stripping along the outfields fence.
The major league and minor league fields were upgraded last spring as well. Adding a warning track and yellow safety stripping. Fresh pant inside and outside the dugouts. CTR signs and lots of red, white and blue throughout the park can be seen from the parking lots.
Last spring CTRLL also broke ground on a 20x30 two story brick concession stand with a 20x30 covered portico, public rest rooms and a coaches lounge for our hard working volunteers to enjoy. This phase of the renovation project was completed and revealed at the 2009 Opening Day Ceremonies.
We have also added a Musco lighting system to the major/minor league field to support evening games allowing more time to arrive at the park during busy work weeks. The lights on the second field affords us to use the first field for primarily softball. Giving the girls their own home in 2009 and beyond.
Our park has a separation between the parking area and the playing fields leaving a safe and relaxing environment for the families with younger children playing on the open acreage as they wait for the siblings. No need to be concerned about fly balls hitting your car at CTR or the younger siblings running through the parking lots as you watch your child’s game.
The goals for the near future are covered batting cages and a fenced in bull pen on our major/minor league field. We are also doing the research to add a fourth field for a challenger league so our county and the neighboring leagues children with challenges can take part in our league playing other children with special needs.
Come out and take a look for yourself and see one of the most modish Youth Sports Complex in the Panhandle right here in Jefferson County.
