Welcome to the 2007

A Message from Lindy Evans

The Chargers Football Organization holds the prestigious distinction as the oldest continuously run youth football team in the metropolitan area. Mr. Don Roberts started it as a 7/8th grade tackle team in 1962 at the old Waterworks Park. The next year a 5/6th grade team was added and the rest is history. These teams led the way for others to be formed and eventually the North Suburban Youth Football League was created with over 70 teams in the league from 1st through 8th grades.

The Chargers philosophy regarding youth football is very simple. Goal #1 is to make sure every player has fun. Goal #2 is to teach good fundamental football skills to prepare the player to compete at the next level. Goal #3, we play to win, but will never jeopardize young player's physical or mental well being just to win a game.

We believe in utilizing league fees to purchase high quality properly fitting equipment to ensure the safety of each player as well as making improvements to our playing field, not on fancy coaches outfits, big banners, or fancy parties. We invest your fees into good things for the kids.

Our goal has always been to outfit each player with the very best properly fitting equipment. That's why we have over 130 sets of helmet and shoulder pads when the most players we can carry for a tackle team is 84. We also have 30 additional properly sized helmets for flag teams.

The fee to play for the Charges is $150.00 per tackle player and $75.00 per flag player. We have a maximum family fee of $300.00 per family and no mandatory fundraisers! We do ask that everyone help with our field maintenance and with the concession stand during home games. We sponsor a yearly golf tournament, which helps with our yearly expenses. As each season begins we provide a yearly financial statement itemizing our income and expenses to each and every family.

One of the most important things that we stress is that we are all family. If something happens to a 1st grader or an 8th grader, we’re all concerned and help in any way possible. I can assure from first hand experience of this being the case. We all truly believe "Once a Charger-always a Charger". We emphasize sportsmanship and consideration of others at every game. We have a simple motto" We win with class and we lose with class."

If you have any questions regarding the Charges Football Organization, please feel free to call me, Lindy Evans at 816-415-4752.

2006 SUPER BOWL CHAMPIONS

3/4th Grade Chargers

The 2006 NSYFL Super Bowl was named in honor of the founder of youth tackle football in the Northland, the founder of the Chargers Football Organization and one of the coaches that formed our current league, Don Roberts.

Mr. Roberts formed the first team in 1962. A 7th & 8th grade team known as the Northland Midgets. The next year he formed a 5th & 6th grade team later to be known as the Chargers.

Mr. Robert's record will probably never be equaled. He coached from 1962 to the end of the 1960's, winning over 100 games with 3 losses and a tie. His team had 5 undefeated seasons, 5 city championships and a winning streak of over 60 games.

Mr. Roberts lost his battle with cancer in June of 2006. He would have been proud and honored that our 3rd & 4th Chargers won the very Super Bowl that was named in his honor. His dedication, leadership and foresight will live on with the league and within the extended Charger family.
