Centerville 6th Grade Select Baseball: Future Elks Baseball Club
![]() |
Background
For the 2006 baseball season, the Midwest Ohio Baseball League (formerly the Dayton Metro Baseball Association) determined there was enough interest to establish a 9U division.
Since there were no organizations in the Centerville area that offered a team for third grade boys, the Future Elks Baseball Club was founded to provide an opportunity for Centerville boys to play a more competitive baseball season than local recreational leagues offered.
Tryouts were held in October 2005. In all, there were enough boys that tried out to field three complete teams. This large pool of talented players made the selection process difficult, but when the final roster was announced it included boys from each of the six public elementary schools in Centerville, as well as Incarnation Catholic School and Spring Valley Academy.
Practice began in January with a weekly practice session at a local indoor facility. In March, the boys’ practice schedule increased to twice per week. April marked the opening of the regular season and the home opener was on May 2nd. The team’s schedule will consisted of 24 league games, several non-league games against teams from the SWOL and four tournaments during the season and in July.
The boys won the Midwest Ohio Baseball League's Multi-Sanctioned World Series Qualifer and went on to the US All-Stars World Series in Lexington, KY.
The core team stayed together, along with the addition of 3 players for the 2007 season. In addition to this team that moved on to the 10U age-level, a new 9U team was formed to provide this opportunity to another class of young men.
The 2008 season proved to be just as successful as the previous years. Both the 11U & 10U teams were able to build on the success, both on and off the field.
