COOKEVILLE — Jimmy Maynord isn’t wasting any time diving into his new job as Cookeville High School football coach.
Though
he is still teaching at Smith County this semester until the contract
officially kicks in, Maynord is planning on being at CHS as much as
possible.
“There’s not a teaching position there (right now).
It’ll become official in July,” said Maynord, who was chosen Friday to
replace Scott Cook at the helm of the Cavaliers. “I’ll be there on a
daily basis trying to be in the weight room and around the kids in the
afternoons, and conduct a spring practice and everything until it
becomes official.”
Maynord expects to take the same approach he has at previous coaching stops — an approach characterized by hard work.
“All
I’ve done in years past is work hard and try to prepare the kids, and
get the kids to work hard,” said Maynord, who has a 169-79 record in 22
years of head coaching at Smith County, Upperman and White County.
“Hopefully good things will happen from that.”
Maynord is hitting
the ground running with forming his staff, taking a look at his players
and getting everyone acquainted with his routine.
