Cookeville Football: Welcome
Congratulations to Coleman Hawkins for being elected Boys State Governor. Cookeville’s Coleman Hawkins elected Governor
Cookeville High School’s Coleman Hawkins accomplished during his nomination speech for governor of Tennessee American Legion Boys’ State delegates what few candidates experience: complete silence and rapt attention in the audience.
That connection with almost 600 delegates resulted in Hawkins being elected the 2012 ALBS Governor. Hawkins, the son of Chris and Tera Hawkins and the grandson of Barbara and Jim Hawkins and Diane and the late Mike Nivens, successfully campaigned for office against two other candidates.

As the newest head coach for the Cavalier football team, he expects that program to be the same type of group.
"It's the same mentality," said Cook, a 14-year CHS assistant coach who was named head coach Wednesday morning. "That's something I've tried to bring to the players in both sports that I've coached. It's just being tough, mentally tough and pushing through the tough moments and being tougher than your opponent.
Cook takes over for longtime coach Jerry Joslin, who stepped down in April to take the same position at Nashville's Pope John Paul II. And having the new title is something Cook is happy for.
"I'm excited. I can't even describe how excited I am," Cook said. "I'm so fired up, I wish we could line up and play tomorrow. But I love this program, I love this community, and I'm excited about how hard these guys are working right now and how committed they are. The coaching staff is excited and really committed to the program, and I just think we've got a great thing here. We're ready to get to work."
