Cavalier Manor Community Football Programs
Recreational youth football has been part of the historical African-American community of Cavalier Manor since the 1960's. A few men in the community who loved the game saw a need create a football program to accomadate the abundance of boys in the neighborhood. Their vision developed quickly into structured teams of young men and boys.
The vision continued and grew through the 1970's and many of the original youth as young adults became coaches and managers of teams. However, lack of interest and support slowed down the progress of activites. This was until the Cavalier Manor Football League(CMF) was formed in the mid 1970's to 1980's. This new league would developed new interest in the sport of cheerleading and support from the community. It soon joined other Portsmouth leagues competing in the local Suffolk chapter of Pop Warner Football in the mid 1980's. CMF was successful and became very popular among youth in the 1990's. It inspired youth and contributed to local high school's some outstanding talent and well rounded young men and women. Also it sustained itself though some tough challenges, hardships and times during late seasons of the 1990's. During this period a few dedicated coaches that love the children and game hung in there to support the programs youth.
On January 13, 2000, CMF was resolved and a new organization formed in (CMFCA), Cavalier Manor Football & Cheering Association. It was incorporated by the state of Virginia on March 3, 2000. Today the program is seeking a new board of directors and is faced with the challenge to establish a new vision and direction for the program. The program is 1 of 15 associations in the Southeastern Virigina Pop Warner Football Conference that is chartered by the National Pop Warner Little Scholars organization.
CMFCA enjoyed successful seasons from 2000 thru 2005. In 2006 new leadership took over the reins of the program. Currently that leadership is seeking community involvment to become active in leadership roles for managing the program.
