Frequently Asked Questions
Q1. How long is the season?
A1. Teams are created the last week of February. Coaches then notify their players and begin practice the first part of March. Opening Day is April 4th, 2009. Games begin the week of April 13th lasting until the 2nd week of June.
Q2. What days are practices?
A2. Each coach signs up for practice days, so it depends upon what day your child’s coach signs up for.
Q3. How long are practices?
A3. Typically practices run 1½ to 2 hours.
Q4. What days are games?
A4. Games begin in April. Each team usually plays one weekday game and one Saturday game. The actual game schedules are not made up until the middle of March, when the number of players and teams have been finalized.
Q5. How many games and practices are there?
A5. During the month of March, teams typically practice two to three times a week (weather and daylight permitting). In April, once games start teams will now be playing two games a week and practicing one other day during the week. Some teams will practice two days a week if that is the desire of the coach.
Q6. My child cannot make tryouts on either the specific date that is posted or at all on Feb 7th & 8th what do we do?
A6. Your child need only attend tryouts if they are playing in a kid pitch, hardball division (AAA, Minor, Major or Junior). If your child is playing in one of these divisions and cannot make either the 7th or 8th, still sign up and contact Jody Daisa our Player Agent at PlayerAgent@CapitolLittleLeague.com and we will have to conduct a makeup tryout for your child.
Q7. Can my child play with their friends all on the same team?
A7. In the A and AA divisions (t-ball and machine pitch) there is more flexibility in accommodating these types of requests. However in any kid pitch, hardball division, teams are drafted after tryouts have been conducted. The most control you can have over who your child plays with is actually to coach a team. Depending upon the division of kid pitch, each coach is allowed to hold only a certain number of players and must draft the remaining players for their team.
Q8. What is the $40 fundraiser buyout?
A8. Each year CLL conducts a fundraiser. In 2009, the fundraiser will be a Hit-A-Thon. How this works is each child is responsible for soliciting per foot pledges from friends, family, neighbors, etc. Then on a specified date, the league conducts the Hit-A-Thon where each player hits three balls either off of a batting T or a machine. The farthest fair hit is their score. Now your child goes back and collects the appropriate amount based upon the distance of the hit and the per foot pledge. If you do not want to have to deal with collecting pledges and correct amounts, you can opt out by paying a flat fee of $40. Regardless of whether you opt out or not, your child will still go to the Hit-A-Thon and participate with their team. Every child is entered into drawings for prizes that are announced and handed out at our Closing Ceremony at the end of the season.
