MASTERS CURLING PRESS RELEASE - From the World Curling Tour
The Host Committee for the CIBC Wood Gundy 2008 Canadian Masters Curling Championships is delighted to announce the return of last years presenting sponsor, the Asham World Curling Tour.
This national curling event for competitors sixty years of age and over is scheduled to take place in Nanaimo, BC from March 31 to April 6, 2008. Both mens and womens winners from the ten provinces and three territories in Canada are eligible to take part in the highest level of competition for that age group.
Title sponsor spokesperson Nathan Thornton, Branch Manager and Investment Advisor for CIBC Wood Gundy in Nanaimo stated, "This is an exciting event, not only for the Nanaimo Curling Club, but for the entire community. We are thrilled to play a part in bringing some of the top curlers in Canada to our city."
Paul Boutilier, Asham World Curling Tour Executive Director, said, On behalf of the Asham WCT and Capital One Grand Slam of Curling, we are pleased to assist the continued development of the Masters level within our sport. Host Chair Judie Roberts acknowledged that this latest sponsorship from the most elite players in the game will truly build the event to new heights. Hosting a competition that features competitors in this age range will raise curlings profile in BC, especially on Vancouver Island, and across Canada. The Nanaimo Curling Club organizes and manages recreational and competitive curling in the Nanaimo area. Our Board of Directors and Membership are comprised of residents from all walks of life. They volunteer thousands of hours annually, taking responsibility for the direction and operation of the club to ensure it meets community and members' needs.
