Tampa Bay catcher Dioner Navarro was struck in the throat by a pitch in the sixth inning during a game with the Florida Marlins Friday night. The pitch from Brian Stokes bounced short of the plate and struck Navarro underneath his mask. Trainers, and later paramedics, went to Mr. Navarro's aid. They eventually strapped him to a backboard and transported him to a hospital. Please notice that Mr. Navarro WAS NOT using a throat guard!!! A video of the incident is available here District 38 has made Safety First. For the seventh year in a row 100% of our Leagues have made a Safety Plan and they have all been approved by Willamsport. A big Thank-you to all of you that worked so hard, your efforts have earned a 20% discount on your leagues insurance and a $350 discount on the district insurance as well. Now lets not let down, make sure the plans are implemented. Remember Little League means Safety - Fun - Sportsmanship.
