Great Weekend
The girls had a great weekend in Pleasanton. Out of 24 teams 3 groups of 8, we finished with 26 points tied with Heritage and due to a 2 goal differential we finished in third! Thats great!!! Keep up the hard work ladies!!! Remember this wednesdays game is being played at the Turlock Complex. Lucy Avila and Leisa Seese are brining water. Thanks. Also don't forget the August 1st date for the tournament money. If you have any questions please feel free to contact Donald. Thanks, see you all Wednesday and lets have a great week and weekend and WIN!!!!

Correction
Any monies due from your spreadsheet are due to Donald anything after that will be given to Lucy Avila. Sorry for the misunderstanding. Remember August 1st is our date to for funds since we need to apply by August 15th for the Ca Rush Open.

Hotel Info and other things
All of you received the hotel information for Long Beach. If you have lost the information it is:
Holiday Inn
2640 N. Lakewood Blvd
Long Beach, Ca 90803
(562)498-5440
Contact director Lisa Foster
I will post the address on the locations page as well.
By now all of you have also received your spreadsheet with the funds for the team. Lucy Avila has volunteered to be the treasurer for the team and all money is to be given to Lucy. Also Lucy has come up with some great fundraising ideas but if anyone else has more please feel free to jump right in and speak up. We really need a committee and the it needs to be more than one person. My schedule does not permit me to contact people because they are all sleeping when I am awake so if we can all come together as a team and raise some money it would be great!
After this last weekend we have moved into 3rd place. We have three more games to play and the girls need to play hard and play as a team! Remember it takes ALL 11 players to WIN the game!
The girls have a big tournament this week and they need to REST and drink plenty of fluids! Also every girl needs to make sure that they have a light healthy snack before a game even if its just a glass of milk. They are spending a lot of calories and their blood sugar will drop which will make their energy and strength drop. So make sure they understand the importance of eating something or at least drinking a small glass of milk or OJ.
Lets have a great weekend and WIN BIG!!!! Remember we need the points for future tournaments.

Nutrition For Soccer Players
Nutrition for Soccer
by Neil Bradford, Director of Coaching
Soccer is a player's game which consists of two forty-five minute halves, with a short interval between halves. The game of soccer is characterized as a high intensity intermittent exercise that utilizes both the aerobic and energy system. The individual soccer player tends to have qualities that include highly skilled feet, strong physique and is very fast and agile. Players can vary widely in body size and stature however, most tend to be well muscled with a low body fat level to maximize speed and agility. Nutrition is a key ingredient in the preparation for the athlete to perform at the peak of his/her powers on game day. It is therefore necessary to eat correctly and take care of your body during the day, week and the season. This in turns allows you the best opportunity to perform to your maximum potential. In the following pages are tables showing food and drinks that an athlete should or should not be eating prior to competition and after competition. Pre-event nutrition can have a major impact on game day performance. Player's diet should therefore be high in carbohydrates and low in fat. The target for this is 60-70% carbohydrates and 10-15% proteins. We will begin looking at the meal the night before competition. This meal is important as it can have dramatic effect on performance the next day. Reasons offered for this is that energy reserves are made up from previous day's meal, not as many people think from the breakfast or meal on the day of competition. These are only suggestions but for further ideas, please contact your nutritional specialist at the local doctor. Meals such as breakfast and lunch (in the tables following) should be eaten three hours before competition to allow food to be digested.
Recommended Drinks Recommended Foods Recommended Desserts/Snacks
Orange Juice Potatoes Fruit
Apple Juice Lean Meats Pretzels
Water Spaghetti Cheese & Crackers
Fruit Juice Tomato Sauce w/Meat Popcorn
Vegetable Juice Rice steam or boiled Plain Biscuits
Milk Fish
Salad
Vegetables
Pizza
Bread
Breakfast - The Day of Competition
On competition day the breakfast can often be the pre-game meal. This offers very little to the athlete in terms of the energy production system. However, if the wrong foods are consumed it can cause much damage to performance later in the day.
Drinks Foods Snacks
Orange Juice Bagels Fruit
Apple Juice Raisin Bran Pretzels
Water Toast Cheese & Crackers
Fruit Juice Yogurt Popcorn
Vegetable Juice Pancakes Plain Biscuits
Milk Bread
Lunch
In a tournament, you can often play two games in a day; lunch therefore becomes a key factor on how you play in the afternoon's game. The meal will have very little effect on the energy production systems but as stated earlier can have an adverse effect if the wrong foods are consumed. It has been suggested for the player to perform to their maximum potential, the player needs to enter the field of play with an empty stomach. The thought process for this is that when there is food in the stomach, the heart has to pump large volumes of blood to the stomach to aid digestion. This effects performance in that when the game begins the heart re-directs the blood to the working muscles, therefore preventing the digestive process. This can result in stomach cramps and gas, making the player feel uncomfortable on the field of play affecting the player both physically and psychologically.
Drinks Foods Snacks
Orange Juice Bread Fruit
Apple Juice Sandwich - Meat, Fish, or Poultry Banana
Water Soup Cheese & Crackers
Vegetable Juice Bagels Pretzels
Milk/Milkshake Vegetables Small Bar of Chocolate
Pre Game Snacks
The Goals
An empty stomach and gastrointestinal tract, but enough fuel for the muscles and enough food to prevent hunger. A settled stomach and a confident athlete. A well hydrated and a comfortable athlete
Why?
This enables the blood to go the working muscles not the digestive organs. Muscles rely primarily on fuel stored from meals eaten in the day to day before competition. Food eaten on game day fuels the brain and keeps muscles topped up when the competition is long or intermittent. This helps in keeping pre-competition nerves from upsetting the stomach
Drinks Snacks
Orange Juice Fruit
Sports Drinks Fruit Bars
Water Raisins
Fruit Juice Apples
Banana
Small Bar of Chocolate
3 hours Before the Game
Sandwich with meat, fish or poultry
Potato or Rice
Cereal, Fruit, Yogurt or Toast

Plain Muffin and Fruit Juice
Toast with Jam and Milk
1 hour Before the Game
High Carbohydrates, Low Fat, Moderate Protein
Milk and a medium Banana

These are just samples and ideas on how to improve performance during sporting competition. There are many ideas and it is through trail and error that you will find out what works best for you. Good luck with your soccer. If you need further assistance contact coaching @saysoccer.org.

Tournaments
We have been accecpted to the California Sun & Surf Tournament in Long Beach on August 9-10.
This has been mentioned before in meetings but no one has stepped up to the plate. We really need a couple of people to head up a fundraising committee. We need money for tournaments and the fall league. Donald can only do so much and we need some parents to help out in this matter. Please let Donald know ASAP. Each tournament costs anywhere from $500-$900 to attend, so we need to raise some major funds. We CAN NOT apply to any more tournaments with out any more MONEY... So PLEASE lets get this going for the the girls and for the team.
Also the Lee's have purchased new benches for the team THANK YOU BRIAN & CLAUDETTE!!! We need to pitch in and get canopies for the team. Can we PLEASE get someone to be in charge of this matter. It would only cost everyone $5-$10 for shade for our girls.
WEDNESDAY'S GAME....
It's going to be 108* - 110* HOT!!!! Please make sure the girls are drinking water throughout the day so they do not get dehydrated. Also LEILA & MARGARET are suppose to bring the water for this home game. Thank you

Change in schedule
There has been a change in game time to our first game on friday morning... Our first game is now at 10:40 am on field #10 on friday morning. Please make a note of this and don't forget the girls need to be there an hour before game time. Please plan for traffic especially with the closing of I-5. If you have any questions call Donald. The girls have practice Wednesday at normal time at Acedemica. Please make sure they are keeping well hydrated.
Monday, June 23
Detour to Cherry Island...
As you all know we have an 8 am game at Cherry Island on Friday morning! And as you all know I-5 is closed. You will need to take the detour. If you use Map quest then click on the option of shortest distance after you gets your directions. You will need to take Highway 99 to Watt ave then follow your map quest directions from there. It is quite easy to follow.
Also the girls played well on Monday. However as mentioned before they are being bracketed with the best of the best now and they need to bring their game each and every time! They need to play as team and they need to trust their team mates. This is a team sport and there are 11 players on the field so when they all think they are the best one out there then their game is not being played!
Onto another subject… if your daughter wants a t-shirt for Pleasanton rage then I need the order soon. I have received 3 orders. We get a $3.00 discount if we preorder. It is $12.00 instead of $15.00 and this will guarantee that your daughter will get the size that she wants. Please let me know soon. I will be placing the order on 7/13/08 the Monday before the tournament.
Practice this week at Acedemica Wednesday at 6 pm. Make sure ALL the girls get A LOT of rest and DRINK LOTS OF WATER this week!
Wednesday, June 18
Schedules & More...
The schedule for California Cup is now posted! We have an 8 am game on Friday 6/27/08. We play 2 games on friday and we only play on Sunday if we advance. Donald contacted the hotel and spoke with "Brian" and we have until 6 pm on Saturday 6/28/08 to let the hotel know that we will not need the room for saturday night. That is if we do not advance. However we need to make sure the girls play their best and make us spend the money for the extra hotel night. In other words... they need to advance :)!!!
I have also posted the games that have been rescheduled due to tournaments.
The schedule for Pleasanton Rage is also posted. You will notice that we are playing teams from out of the state. We are being bracketted with the best of the best. Our girls have the talent to take it, but they need to want it and bring it!!!
You will notice that we have 2 games on August 2, one of these will problably be changed. Keep checking back for updates.
Also, as you probably have heard we are no longer going to the Elk Grove Everton Cup. We will instead be going to bigger and better tournaments. As we all know we have juniors and seniors on the team and this is a very important time in their soccer career to be seen by college coaches. Lets support our girls and show the team we are behind them 100%!
If you have any questions or concerns please call Donald.

Monday June 23 Game...
If there are any parents that can not make the monday morning game and do not have transportation for their child to the game please call Lucy Avila. Lucy has room for 4-5 players. She would prefer they spend the night on Sunday. So if the girls are interested in a sleepover and the parents cannot take their daughter please call Lucy Avila.
Also as soon as the California Cup schedule is posted I will post it here. Keep checking back.
Practice this week is M-W-Th.
Lets have a great weekend!!!

Something to think about...
I was recently asked about energy drinks that are marketed to athletes. These are NOT good for anyone. I recently attended a drug conference and the Doctor that was speaking stated that they were the equivalent to liquid meth. Studies have shown that these energy drinks DO NOT give any athletes any edge on their competitor. They can be marketed to athletes because they have "natural" herbs and ingredients. However these herbs have not been studied and the side effects are not known. They are known to increase a person’s heart rate and give them a heart palpitations which is not a good thingfor anyone. Our girls are at a vulnerable age where they will believe things that are told to them by peers. We need to step in as parents and remind them that we are here for their best interest and we would not encourage harm to them in any way.
In other news... There will be no other practices this week. The girls had a tough weekend and they saw that they really need to work hard and they need to work together as a team. They can get far with their hard work and determination.
Regarding ref fee's... I had to pay the ref's out of my own pocket this last weekend. That is $110.00 that I paid. I had already paid my share of the ref fees. I believe that there has only been about 4-5 parents that have paid. I need everyone to pay Donald ASAP so I can be reimbursed. Also Donald needs to get the all parents to pay other outstanding fees ASAP. If you have any questions, concerns, comments, please call Donald.
We still need to some parents to be in charge of Fund raising. Please contact Donald ASAP if you can help out. On the phone card that is laminated I haave Lexi Seese's phne number wrong. It is correct on the phone list for home. Thanks

Help....
We have been accepted to the California Cup June 27-29. The hotel info is now posted under the locations.
Onto other important information... We need a parent to be in charge of FUNDRAISING! We understand that times are tough and gas prices are outrageous so if we can get one or two parents to be in charge of fundraising that would be great! I know that Prime Shine does a great fundraiser and I have the info if someone would like to be in charge of it. Also if anyone has any other ideas please step up to the plate. Remember this is to benefit our girls. Also recycling is a great way for the girls to raise funds. Since they are drinking tons of water and the bottles should be recycled.
Remember everyone needs to pay their ref fees to Donald ASAP and any outstanding tournaments fee's also need to be paid ASAP!!!

This Weekend...
Great game girls!!!
We have applied for the Nor Cal Premier Fall League.
Pratice is now TUESDAYS~ WEDNESDAY~THURSDAYS. This does not mean you only have to come to two practices a week it means you need to be at THREE practices a week!!!
As mentioned by Donald we are now in the busy season with tournaments. The upcoming tournaments are: Nationals 6/21-6/23 in Modesto, California Cup 6/27-6/29 in Sacramento, and the Elk Grove Everton Cup in Elk Grove. Are acceptance is still pending to the Pleasanton Rage Showcase 7/26-7/27. And there is a possibility of the Albion Cup Showcase 7/19-7/21 in San Diego. There is also a possibility of more tournaments in August, October, and November 2008. These are hard tournaments and the girls have a lot of hard work ahead of them. As mentioned by Donald each girl should be emailing the colleges of their choice and letting them know that they will be playing in an upcoming tournament. I will post the links to the tournament sites so it will be easier to find out what college coaches will be attending tournaments.
On the subject of hotels I would like to say THANK YOU to Suzette for making the arrangements for the hotel for the California Cup. And I would also like to say Thank you to Michelle Danner for stepping up and volunteering to set up the hotels for our summer tournaments. We will however need another volunteer to set up hotels beginning in August when Michelle goes back to work. Speak with Donald if any one can do this. Don't forget to make your reservation for the California Cup tournament and remember we have 5 rooms with a king and sofa bed and 8 rooms with a double queen. Remember to allow the families that are taking extra girls get the rooms with the double queens.
Thank you Tami Fyvie for volunteering to bring a canopy to ALL the home games! However we will need one for the team. Michelle Danner and the Lee's had a great idea of maybe having everyone pitch in approximately $5.00 and purchasing one canopy for the team. Then different families can bring it to games and tournaments. Remember we have to provide shade and water for the visiting team during home games. Also, the summer is coming and we need to keep our girls out of the sun. Please email me at elisaangel@sbcglobal.net if everyone is interested. Thank you for the families who signed up for water duty since we also need to provide cold water for the visiting team. I will email you the week before to remind you of the date that you signed up to bring the water.
I now have everyone's information for the phone list. I will have home copies and vehicle copies at the next game. I could send them to practice but we all know that the girls tend to lose papers somewhere between the field and home.
Now onto other important information... MONEY... Any information regarding money will be posted on the site news section only. I will be posting revised fees in that section this week. If anyone has questions please call Donald or email me at elisaangel@sbcglobal.net. Don't forget to check the website at least twice a week, since things get added almost every other day!
GREAT JOB GIRLS ON BEING RANKED 13th on Gotsoccer!!!
Friday, May 30
UPDATED INFO
I miscounted our home games and we actually have 6 home games not 4 so everyone needs to check the site news page for the updated amount.
Friday, May 30
New Info
Sunday June 1st: First home game the girls need to wear their black shorts and black socks.
There is new information regarding referee fee's and other things on the site news page. You must be logged in to access this page. Please try to access it at least once a week. This is the page that is not visible to the public and only team members have access to it. On another topic... when we have home games we need to provide the visiting team with water and shade. We need parent volunteers to be in charge of bringing a canopy and two cases of water in an ice chest with ice to each home game. If you are someone who can bring a canopy then you will not have to bring water. There is 18 girls on the team and only 6 games so if we can get half of the families to sign up for water duty and the other half to sign up for canopy duty it would work out perfectly. Please email me at elisaangel@sbcglobal.net to let me know which you can do and I can assign you to a game. If you have any questions please call Donald.
Wednesday, May 28
Great Weekend... AND...
This weekend was a great weekend! The girls had a great time at the bonfire. They all seem to know each other well and it shows in their playing. After all their hard work this weekend they are now ranked 13th in Northern California on Gotsoccer and they finished as SEMI FINALISTS!!! Way to go girls!!! Pictures have been added to the albums section, enjoy. Remember practice on Wednesday and Donald and the girls are going to talk as to what days practice will be held. The game that we were supposed to play on Sunday May 25th has now been rescheduled. Please check the schedules for the new date and time. Don't forget we have a game on Sunday at U.O.P. and we will be having a parent meeting after the game. Also we need to get a couple of parents to volunteer to bring two 36 pack cases of water to each home game to provide for the home team and the away team along with a cooler and ice of course to keep the water cold. Please email me at elisaangel@sbcglobal.net when you can bring the water. If you can look at the schedule of home games and you may sign up now and I will keep track of who is bringing the water. I can also send you a reminder via email the week that you have signed up to bring the water. We are about to go full swing into the tournament season so we need to get more parent volunteers to help out so Donald can focus on coaching the girls. Also Sue McCain has volunteered to get us hotel info for the Elk Grover tournament. As soon as we get some info I will post it. If you have any questions please feel free to email me at elisaangel@sbcglobal.net or cal Donald.

Cal Cougars opens College doors
This article was posted on the Super Y website. Check it out... Isn't this what we want for our girls?
Cougars Open Collegiate Doors
Cal Cougars Super Y-League System creates 45 scholarships in first three seasons
Monday, August 13
STOCKTON, CA – The Cougars Soccer Club, serving the San Joaquin Valley in California, continues to emphasize player soccer development and college soccer commitment through their Super Y-League girls’ soccer program. The Cougars emphasize fundamental technical/skills and individual 1 v. 1 attacking and defending in Super Y-League play.
The club specializes in college commitments based on the efforts of Mark and Matt Kusanovich and Rodney Dumlao. The team spends hours volunteering their time beyond the soccer field to ensure that each Cal Cougar player receives a college soccer scholarship commitment.
“The Cougars and their coaches use Super Y-League play to network with college coaches on a one on one basis,” said Cal Cougars Director of Coaching Mark Kusanovich. “The Super Y-League is important for our recruitment purposes. There is seldom a game where the players or coach has not lined up a scout to watch a individual player compete. Early college commitments are already being made by the female players.”
Last season’s Cal Cougars Super Y-League girls’ received 18 scholarships to play at several prominent colleges including: USF, Pacific, San Francisco State, Salem, Cal. State Stanislaus, and Cal State Bakersfield. Two years ago, another 18 players from the Cal Cougars Super Y-League system received college soccer scholarships from: Stanford, UCLA, USF, Cal. Davis, St. Mary’s College, Louisiana Tech, Lees-McRae, Arkansas State, Cascade, Notre Dame de Namur, Stanislaus State, and Utah Valley State. In 2005, the opening year of the program, Cal Cougar players committed to nine colleges in the Western Region.
In 2006, the Cal Cougars U17 girls qualified for the Super Y-League North American Finals. During the league finals the side compiled a 1-2 record during group play, including a 1-0 victory over Group A champion, the Indiana Invaders. The side with the best chance of earning an invitation to the league finals this season is the Cal Cougars U14 girls. The team currently holds a record of 3-4-1, 11 points back of division leading San Juan SC (7-4-1). In head to head competition the Cougars defeated San Juan 3-2 on Saturday, June 2. In the rematch the Cougars forced a 1-1 draw on the road, Wednesday, July 18.
If the Cougars can pull out three straight wins, two against the Santa Cruz County Breakers and one against the Cal Odyssey, Group A of the U14 Northern Californian Division will come down to one match between the Cougars and Juventus Sport Club.
