Cabot made the drive to Russellville and were ready for a road win. The Predators came out to play their game and to add a constant level of pressure on the ball. Russellville was equally intent on playing their fast paced give and go offense.
Russellville pushed hard on the attack early in the first half. A crossed ball could not get cleared by the Predators and resulted in a PK for handling in the penalty area. Russellville squeezed the PK past the diving save attempt by Daniel. Several minutes passed when Russellville broke past the defense to chase down a ball sent in behind and put up another goal.
Cabot did not lose heart but immediately went to work on their own offense. It took a few near misses before Cabot got a deflection in front of the goal and put it in the back of the net. The Predators renewed their determination to battle back. Coach Ruben made a switch to send Reed in as center right defender and push Hugo up to midfielder. The strategy worked as Hugo used his physical play to win balls and to work the ball up the field. The two teams continued to press hard for the remainder of the half. When the whistle blew to end the first period, the Predators were down 2-1.
Cabot started the second half with the same formation changes as in the first half. The Predators quickly took the momentum and found Logan on a breakaway in behind the defense. Logan lined it up and slammed it in to tie the game. A couple of more runs like that had Russellville scrambling for help to stop the Predators' attacks.
Russellville pushed an attack deep into the attacking third and kept the ball penned in near the goal until an open player put the shot in the net to put them back on top 3-2. The Predators responded with another run by Logan to chip the ball over the charging keeper and into the open net. The game was knotted at 3-3.
The Strikers next goal came off a biazarre goal kick restart by the Predators. Just before Mark struck the ball, it rolled slightly to the left and the kick careened short in front of the penalty area. Russellville pounced on the ball and quickly worked it in place for a score.
Time was running short and so was the energy reserves of several of the Predators but they did not quit. Cabot kept the pressure up as the Strikers kept rotating fresh players in. Russellville possessed the ball well and worked to center the ball in from the outside attacking third. Several attempts were turned back but the Strikers kept sending it back in. The pressure finally found a break in the middle and the Strikers put up one more score. The game ended with the score Strikers 5 and Predators 3. Again the Predators showed great improvement and that they are contenders.
