CT Knights 17u team continues to win the Knights way
Who’s that Guy?
May 22nd, 2010
New England Recruiting Report
Mike Anderson has made a name for himself on this spring’s grassroots circuit.
With good result after good result the Connecticut Knights have certainly been one of the biggest, and best, surprises of this spring’s grassroots circuit thus far.
It began in Middletown at the Basketbull New England Qualifier when the Knights scored an upset over Expressions Elite in pool play and went on to the semi-finals of the gold bracket. A week later the Knights announced their presence on an even bigger stage as they advanced to another gold semi-final, this time at the Providence Jam Fest, defeating the likes of New Heights and Long Island Lightning in the process. The last two weeks have brought more final four finishes at both the Hoop Mountain Invitational and the Hall of Fame Spring Classic.
While talented guard Tylon Smith Jr. has been the team’s most consistent scoring presence, the Knights success has been anything but a one man show. Players like Mike Deffley and Cyrus James have both made a name for themselves this month but the biggest breakout performer has been Mike Anderson.
Anderson, a six-foot-five swingman who graduated from Weaver High School in Hartford last year, spent this past season developing his game at TAAG Academy as a post-graduate. The benefits have been easy to see this spring as Anderson has emerged as a consistent double-figure scorer for the Knights while also intriguing a variety of college coaches.
Adelphi, Long Island, Albany, New Haven, and American International are a few of the schools that have recently developed an interest in the Hartford native according to Knights head coach Tylon Smith Sr.
It’s not hard to see why as Anderson has the size and length that is so coveted at the next level while showing the skill set to shoot the ball from the three-point line and in while also creating with his dribble.
So what’s the plan for Anderson next year?
According to Smith, he’ll be heading to college one way or another. He is just short of a qualifying SAT score and if he can get that number on next month’s test there is no doubt that he’ll have scholarship opportunities next year. If not, Smith says Anderson will be off to junior college where his development will no doubt only continue until he graduates and again becomes a target of scholarship level programs in two years.

New Changes for traveling out of the United States " Passport info"
If any one is planning to go to the Canada tournament this year please read the following information below
New Passport Rules
Maria Colenso
If I were a betting gal, I'd say chances are in my favor that, even if you are a traveler, you don't have a passport. Only about 27 percent of Americans have one. But, because of new passport rules taking effect in January 2007, all of that is about to change.
Below is the information you'll need to know about the new rules and how to apply for your first passport. And once you have that new passport, why not tell everyone where you got your first passport stamp on our travel message boards?
WHAT IS CHANGING?
Right now, if you like to cruise around the Caribbean or Mexico, you're probably used to packing your driver's license and birth certificate. There are big changes ahead for you.
Under the government's new Western Hemisphere Travel Initiative, everyone (including kids) will be required to show their passport when traveling between the United States and Canada, Mexico, Central and South America, the Caribbean and Bermuda.
The only exception will be if you travel to a U.S. territory, such as Puerto Rico or the U.S. Virgin Islands. There, your driver's license and birth certificate will still be all you need.
WHEN WILL THE CHANGES TAKE EFFECT?
The deadline for when these new passport rules kick in keeps changing, so beware of outdated information. The current time line is:
If you're traveling by air, you will need your passport beginning on Jan. 23, 2007.
If you are traveling by land or sea, new passport rules will go into effect as early as January 2008.
APPLYING FOR YOUR FIRST PASSPORT
To get your first passport, you need to go (yes, I mean in person) to a passport agency. Bring with you:
* Two photographs of yourself;
* Proof of U.S. citizenship (ex: your birth certificate);
* A valid form of photo identification such as a driver's license;
* A passport application form.
Passport agencies are usually a post office, government office or public library. You may not apply for your first passport online. To find an agency near you, visit: http://iafdb.travel.state.gov/.
Your first passport will get you through the next 10 years and will cost $97 if you're age 16 or older. Child passports last for five years and cost $82.

Jared Jordan NAMED To MACC All-Rookie Team
Marist College men's basketball freshman Jared Jordan was named to the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC)All-Rookie Team,announced this afternoon on the Pre-tournament Teleconference. Jordan is now one of five finalist for the MAAC Rookie of the year award,whice is to be announced on Friday at the Awards Reception at Pepsi Arena.
Jordan,a graduate of kingswood-Oxford High School, and played AAU basketball for Coach Tylon Smith and the CT Knights AAU basketball Club in Connecticut. Has made a name for himself as a rookie this season, playing in all 27 games for the Red Foxes, including 19 starts. He is averaging 6.7 points per game entering the tournament, and pulling in 4.3 boards an outing.
Most impressive perhaps is his ability to find the open player. He leads the team with 106 assists this year. It marks the third highest total for a Marist Freshman. With his three assists in the season finale at Manhattan, Jordan surpassed all-time leader Drafton Davis' rookie assist total of 105. Jordan's assist-to-turnover ratio is among
the best in the league at 2.3. In his 720 minutes,third on the team, Jordan committed just 48 turnovers. He finished the regular season third on the team with 29 steals.
Jordan earned MAAC Rookie of the week Honors three times this season.
Jordan is just the second Marist player to earn Maac All-Rookie honors since joining the league for the 1997-98 season.
Jordan stated that all his preparation for college came during the summer playing AAU basketball for Coach Tylon Smith and the CT Knights AAU basketball Program. "Coach Smith pushed me to do three things while I played for him,and they were to be the best I could be, to play smarter and work harder than my opponent, and to have fun. Those words and the phone calls from him during the season helped me stay focused at being the best I could be". Said Jared. "Coach Smith also taught me the only way a team can be successful if everyone gets involved and that was my job her at Marist". Said Jared Jordan.
Of note Jordan is the second Red Fox to earn MAAC All-Rookie Team accolades.
