Welcome to the CSSU Buccaneers

ATTENTION: UPCOMING FLAG PLAYERS ( FOR 2012 SEASON )

Thanks for a great 2011 season. I am looking forward to being the head coach of the flag team once again next year for the 2012 season. We will  be allowing  second,  third and fourth graders to participate. Look for registration information in the spring of 2012 for the upcoming  season.

For first year families the flag team players commitment starts out quickly. The first two weeks of practice are held Monday thru Friday from 5:30 to 7:30 starting in the last two weeks of August. This is in preparation for the first games held at the Milton Jamboree. Ten practices are required before a player can play in their first game of the season. This is a safety measure to insure the players are prepared to play. Once the regular season begins the flag team will practice on Monday and Wednesday nights and will have games on Thursdays and some Saturdays. Our emphasis at the flag level is to teach the players the proper techniques of playing the game safely and to have fun! We want the flag players to become excited about this great sport of football and continue to play! Our Buccs program is a youth football feeder program to the CVU High School Redhawks. From the flag level up thru the 7/8 teams we teach the same playbook fundamentals that will be used at the CVU Redhawks JV and Varsity teams. Always feel free to contact any of us for more information about our Buccaneers Organization!

I highly recommend participation in the CVU Redhawk summer camp. This one week program takes place typically at the end of July and is a great opportunity for new players and returning players to get ready for the upcoming season. An evening camp in shorts and t-shirts makes for easy scheduling and participation. Head Coach Jim Provost runs the camp along with many of his CVU players. Look for information at the Redhawks website.

See you on the field and GO BUCCS!

 Coach Chris Boffa

Palmer Field:

For visitors to Palmer Field here are some rules to keep in mind......

Palmer Field is generously loaned for the BUCCS by the Palmer Family to use during the football season only. The field does not belong to the Buccs and has limited facilities.

We ask that the following be kept in mind when visiting our field or watching your child practice on the field......

1. NO PETS ARE ALLOWED ON THE FIELD AT ANY TIME! Dog waste is a health hazard to players and visitors.  Do not bring your pet to our field. We appreciate your consideration and we will ask dogs leashed or unleashed be removed from the field.

2. All trash, drink containers and rubbish must be removed from the field. Trash and recycling containers are provided for this purpose. Please be considerate.

3. Parking is only allowed in two areas and is marked off. Do not take shortcuts across the playing field or over the shoulders onto the road. There are very wet areas and cars can get stuck if parking in unmarked areas. We also don't want the Palmer's land torn up with tire tracks.

4.  There is NO RUNNING WATER at the field. Please remember to bring water for your child. There are no convenience stores nearby Palmer Field.

There are two Porta-Pottis on Palmer Field in the Parking Area.

You may email Andrea Tieso at cssubuccs@gmail.com if you have a website question or an article for the website!

GOLF TOURNAMENT! Please help us make this successful!

Dear Buccaneer parents:

Just a reminder about the golf tournament happening on Friday, September 23rd at Cedar Knoll Country Club.  This is our biggest fundraiser of the year, allowing us to provide our players with a great program while keeping costs low.  WE NEED VOLUNTEERS, PRIZES and SPONSORS!

If you’d like to volunteer for the event, we can use help in all areas and you don’t need to know how to golf.  There are three shifts available – please let me know if you can cover any one of them:

            SHIFT 1:         8:00 a.m. – 11:00 p.m.

            SHIFT 2:         10:30 a.m. – 2:30 p.m.

            SHIFT 3:         2:00 p.m. – 5:00 p.m.

Amy Vazquez is organizing food for the event, so if you’re able to contribute something, please be in touch with her.  Amy’s e-mail is avazquez@madriver.com.

If you’re able to donate a prize, please let me know.  Prizes come in a wide range, small to larger, gift certificates and gift baskets – we need about 100 total prizes for the tournament.  Please let me know if you or your company are able to contribute.

Playing in the tournament promises to be a lot of fun!  There is room for only 32 teams of four, and $85 per person includes greens fees, cart rental, lunch and prizes.  Kim Kropf is collecting player registration and payment   (Please, one check per team would really help).  I’m happy to get your registration to Kim for you, so please come find me at practice this week.

Whether you can play in the tournament or not, sponsorship is a great way to support our program.  A Cart Sponsorship in your player’s name costs $75 and is a great way to honor all the hard work your Buccaneer is doing this year!  Cart sponsors will have a sign with a company name (or player name) displayed on the cart.  Other options include:

·      Hole Sponsorship ($150) includes a sign with your company’s name displayed at

 the hole.

·      Birdie Sponsors ($425) include a team of four and a hole sponsor sign.

·      Eagle Sponsors ($800) include golf for two teams (8 players), one hole sponsor sign and verbal recognition at our awards ceremony.

·      Season Sponsorship ($1,000) includes golf for two teams, two hole sponsor signs, verbal recognition at our awards ceremony, and your company name and logo on the front page of the program.

Sponsorship and player registration is on the attached brochure, and forms with payment can be mailed to:

Kim Kropf

794 Mt. Philo Road

Shelburne, VT  05482

Email: joe.kim2@comcast.net

I’m also happy to collect player registration, sponsorships and payment, so please see me at our Buccs practices.

Thank you all so much, and feel free to contact me if you have any questions.  Go Buccs!

2011 Fundraiser! Annual Golf Tournament to Benefit CSSU Buccs and CVU Redhawks!

Dear Buccaneer parents:

The CVU Redhawks and CSSU Buccaneers are once again teaming up to raise much needed funds though our annual golf tournament.  Located at Cedar Knoll Country Club in Hinesburg on Friday, September 23rd, the four person scramble starts at 11 a.m.  There are loads of prizes and lots of laughs, so please come out to support our athletes.

I’ve attached the tournament brochure with more complete details about the event.  If you are a golfer, we would love to have you on the links with us.  Please do note that teams are first-come-first served, so get your form turned in early!

In order to continue this important fundraiser, we need Hole, Cart, Birdie, and Eagle and Season Sponsors.  A special feature this year will be the “naming” of carts in honor of individual Buccaneer or Redhawk players.  Parents are encouraged to participate!

We also would greatly appreciate donations of raffle prizes for the over 120 golfers – gift certificates, merchandise from your company, and any other donation of good or services.

Both the CVU and the Buccaneer programs depend significantly on the proceeds of this major fundraiser.  The Buccaneers rely solely on registrations fees and fundraising to support our entire program, including field maintenance and equipment, uniforms, insurance and many other needs.  Between the Redhawk and Buccaneer programs, well over 250 young people in our communities are participating in healthy, constructive team-building activities every day each Fall.

To sign up or participate as a sponsor, please download the attached brochure, fill it out, and mail in to Kim Kropf.  You can also pick up a at practice – located on the table in front of equipment storage.  If you’re interested in donating a gift certificate or other prize, please contact me at nboffa@gmavt.net.

Thank you so much for your consideration and we’re all looking forward to a great season.  Go Buccs!

7/8 Practice Times Moved Up and Game Start Times Moved Up - Please Read

As you may have noticed, it's getting dark by 7:30 these days. Starting next week, we will move the practice start time up to 5:15 (completion by 7:15). We will need to move it up to 5:00 shortly thereafter, but we wanted to give you at least a week of transition. Coaches are generally there by 5PM each night, so early arrivals for additional work are always welcome.

Tonight, we will plan to end practice a bit early to allow players an opportunity to get over to Essex to watch some of the CVU game there tonight. As always, we will be sure to have at least one coach stick around until all of the players have a ride home, so if you get this message without time to react, don't worry about getting your playyer at the normal time of 7:30.

Both Varsity and JV teams play at Essex tomorrow. As with last week, the start time of the Varsity game is likely to be moved up to 9:30 to support the need for the officials to ref high school games later that day. Varsity players should plan to be there no later than 8:30. Parking at Maple Street Park can be problematic, so please allow additional time to walk from ADL school. All players on the roster will be announced at the beginning of the Varsity game. JV players are welcome to come early, be announced and stand on the sidelines during the Varsity game. We are planning individual playing time based on our normal JV players playing in the later game.

ANOTHER GAME HAS BEEN ADDED TO THE 5/6 JV SCHEDULE!

Hello Parents and Players of 5/6 JV!

We have just arranged another game for our team! Please mark your calendars. The game will be at Palmer Field on 9/10 at 12:00 noon.

We are playing the Central Vermont Raiders from the Montpelier area.  They are a fairly new team and they were very impressed by their experience at the Milton Jamboree and wanted to give their young team a chance to get more experience.

Thank you for your continued enthusiasm and support of our team!

Coach Joe Tieso

5/6 Jamboree Wrap Up and the Upcoming Scrimmage!

Parents,

Thank you for sticking with us on a long day. Having you there for moral and sometimes physical support was great. All the boys put in a great effort yesterday. Everyone left all their energy on the field. I'm certain many of them slept on the way home.

The goal of yesterday was to learn. I know I learned a lot yesterday. As a team they knew their assignments and were in the right place at the right time. This next week we will focus on more technical aspects of the game at every position.

At this time we plan to have practice tomorrow at 5:30. If that changes for any reason we will let you know.

On Wednesday we have a scrimmage against Chittenden East. Please have the boys there at 5pm at the latest. Parking may be difficult, so again I encourage you to get there as early as you can. Please go to the Bucs website for directions to the field.

http://www.eteamz.com/CSBuccaneers/locations/

Friday practice at 5:30 prepping for our the Varsity game against Fairfax and the JV game against Colchester. Both are home games!

As we enter the school year the boys will have their homework to contend with, as well. My recommendation to the boys will be to do their homework before coming to practice.  I know that isn't always feasible, but after a long day at school, then practice, they will be tired and not wanting to jump into their studies at 8pm.

I want to thank all the assistant coaches for all the work they have put in. Having all this attention to detail has gotten us to where we are. I also want to thank Jill Lowrey for pulling together all the info that was needed for the Bucs into the Jamboree. That was a Herculean task.

Go Bucs!

- Coach Howatt

Tuesday, July 19
It is mid-July and Football Schedules are being set up!

Hello there! As we continue our progress towards the start of the season more information is available!

Coach Dave Shanks of the 7/8 JV Team has just announced the 7/8 JV Schedule. We can tell you the dates and teams right now. Times will be forthcoming....Please see the "GAMES" section of our Website. Each team in the Buccs group has their own schedule on our website. You may also look for the "PRACTICE SCHEDULES" as well.

Coach Joe Tieso of the 5/6 JV Team is working to set up games with other teams. Not every NVYFL Team has a 5/6 JV team so we may play some teams twice. The 5/6 JV games may happen during the weeknight or may happen on a Saturday afternoon or possibly at our home field on Saturday when our Varsity Teams are away. Please check the GAMES and PRACTICE SCHEDULES Calendar on our website for more information as we get it.

Coach Chris Boffa of the Flag Team is also working to arrange some games for the team.

Each Team has their own Page on this website as well. You should check there too!

Monday, August 22
Game with Barre cancelled on 10/1/2011

Attn: Parents

Barre just informed us that they have to cancel their 5/6 JV Games due to low registration numbers on that team for 5/6. Our calendar on the website has been updated to reflect that cancellation.

Unfortunately, many teams just don't have JV teams. We have tried to get as many games as possible with any team that has a JV.....

Thank you.
