Instructional Team Has First Practice The Kindergarten/First grade novice team had there first practice of the year. Monday, November 9 South Plainfield Fall Tournament A few Cranford wrestlers went to the South Plainfield tournament this weekend and did a great job. Coming in First place was Niko Cappello in the Midget 110 division also placing was David Busch 2nd Midget 90, Joe Giaccio 3rd High School 125, Ryan Burkert 4th Middle School 95 and Coner Burkert Middle School 100.
Mike "Hollywood" Nigro Sings at Rutgers Wrestle Offs Cranford wrestler Mike "Hollywood" Nigro started off the Rutgers wrestling season by signing at the Rutgers University wrestler offs. Mike sang the National Anthem before the wrestle offs started and did an outstanding job. Tuesday, November 3 Cranford PAL Wrestling has Record Sign Ups For the fourth year in a row the Cranford PAL had another record sign ups. With a week till the season is to start we have over 90 wrestlers sign up for the PAL K-6 programs. The coaches are looking foward to another great season.
Cranford Wrestlers Attend TNT Wrestling Camp A group of Cranford wrestlers spent four days at the TNT wrestling camp in Kitztown, Pa.
CRANFORD SUMMER WRESTLING: APEX WRESTLING SCHOOL Wow, what a great showing for week 4 of the Cranford summer Wrestling Clinics. There were over 100 kids for this week's clinic. Wednesday night, Apex Wrestling School ran the clinic and did a great job with the kids. Apex will be opening their wrestling school in Kenilworth in August. Next week will be our last week of summer wrestling when Coach Scott Goodale, the head coach of Rutgers University, will run the clinic. Then the Cranford wrestling army will be heading to PA for the TNT wrestling camp.

Summer Wrestling Week 2 The second week of Summer wrestling, Coach Carl Poff ran the clinic. Coach Poff was head wrestling coach at Lock Haven University for 17 years. It was another great turn out with 55 kids attending the clinic. Next clinic, Coah Chris Ayres will be running the clinic. Coach Ayres is the head wrestling coach at Princeton University.
Summer Wrestling Week 1 Cranford Summer Wrestling started off the first Clinic with Justin Silverstein. Justin was a Prep National Champion for Blair and an All Americian at Purdue. We had over 50 kids attend to the first night. See everyone next week. Thursday, July 2 Kenilworth Tournament Great job by all the Cranford kids that went to the the Kenilworth Dad's Day Tournament. Wednesday, June 3 Cranford Summer Wrestling is now CLOSED The Cranford summer wrestling is now closed all 50 spots have been taken. We have started a waiting list, you can contact Coach Murray at kevintmurray@aol.com to be put on the list. This summer teaching at the clinics will be Zach Tanell, Chris Ayres, Scott Goodale, Damion Logan, and Dino Debellonia. Monday, May 18 4th Annual Cranford Wrestling Bocce Tournament The 4th Annual Cranford Wrestling Bocce Tournament was held Sunday May 17 at the Botino Resort on the South side of Cranford. The team of Rob Kanterman and Ron Jones knock of the defending champs Kevin Murray and Jerry Capece in the finals. It was a fun day for all that attened. Big thanks to coach Botino for hosting the event again.

The evening was head-lined by two special guest speakers, Rutger's head wrestling coach Scott Goodale and Rutger's stud wrestler Scott Winston. The evening was filled with lots of great awards and prizes. The big hit of the night was Bill Tompkin's highlight video and slide show. A big thanks for everyone putting together another great banquet!

CJMWL BEATS MID JERSEY LEAGUE The CJML All star team defeated the Mid Jersey All Stars 65-9 Tuesday night in East Brunswick. For Cranford Chris Wozniak dropped a hard fight 2-0 match to Mitch Polito from East Brunswick in the 50 pound match. Anthy Capece beat Sookdeo from Hazlet 8-4 at 53. Conner Burkert drop a tough 5-2 decision to Sal Profaci of Monroe at 85. And Gavin Murray was the last Cranford wrestle for the night and pinned Mike Cordova of Monroe at the 95 weight class. Next Tuesday the CJML All Star will take on the NWJMWL All stars at Kenilworth High School starting at 7 PM. Monday, March 2 CJML All Star Team The Cranford PAL wrestling team will have four wrestler representing them on the CJML All Star team. Chris Wozniak, Anthony Capece, Conner Burkert and Gavin Murray. The CJML All stars will take on the Mid Jersey All Stars at East Brunswick on Tuesday March 3, 2209 @ 6:30. The next week the CJML All Stars will take on the NWMWL All Stars at Kenilworth High School, March 10 @ 7 PM.
CJML "A" Tournament The Cranford PAL wrestling team came in seconded place at the CJML "A" Tournament. Cranford end up with 62 point behind Bridgewater "A" who had 63 points. Cranford had 5 finalist and end up with 4 champions. Chris Wozniak got things started at the 50 pound division by beating two wrestles that beat him earlier in the season to make the finals. In the finals he beat the Ridge wrestler 3-1. Next up at 53 Antony Capece defeated Ben Hines of Bridgewater "A" 9-1. At 85 Conner Burkert defeated Brad Carle of Roselle Park 5-1. Conner end the CJML season at 21-0. At 90 Ryan Burkert lost a hard fight overtime match 5-3 against Joe Scerbo of Flemmington. At 95 Gavin Murray defeated Kyle Murphy of Bridgewater "A" 4-2 in the championship match. Gavin end the CJML season at 21-0. 13 out of the 15 Cranford wrestlers placed in the CJML tournament. Cranford Beats South Plainfield The Cranford PAL wrestling team capped off an undefeated season with a 53-17 victory over South Plainfield. In front of a crowd of more then 300 people the cougars finished the season 15-0 in CJML and 18-0 over all. Winning for Cranford where Wozniak, Capece, Scorese, Gunther, McGovern, Witzal, C. Monday, September 15 2008/09 Wrestling Sign Ups The Cranford PAL wrestling sign ups will be Tuesday October 21 and Thursday October 23 from 6-8 PM at the Cranford Community Center. Any Cranford resident in grade 1-6 are welcome to join. The season starts after Thanksgiving and runs till middle of February. Cost is $80.00. Cranford Wrestlers Attend TNT Wrestling Camp Fifty three Cranford wrestlers and fathers recently went to Carl Poff TNT Wrestling Camp at Kutztown University. It was four days filled with learning and live wrestling by some of the top college wrestlers and coaches. All the Cranford kids did great and where very respectful to the TNT staff.
Damion Logan gives Clinic The final week of summer wrestling was another great one Damion Logan of Premier wrestling club gave an outstanding clinic. With over 40 wrestlers on hand it was a great way to end the summer. Coach Logan was a 4 time hign school state finalist and won the NJ High School State Wrestling Championship 3 times. He went on to be a two All American in college. It was a great five week and I believe the kids learned a lot. Thanks to everyone for taking part in the summer program. Next up the Cranford Wrestling Army will be heading to TNT Wrestling Camp with over 50 wrestlers and fathers going. Enjoy the rest of the summer!
DeBellionia Gives Clinic Seton Hall Prep head wrestling coach ran the fouth clinic this summer for the kids. This is the the fouth year coach DeBellonia has come to Cranford and always does a nice job. With a lot of people on vacation and baseball still going on, we still had 36 kids there for the clinic. Next week will be the last of the summer clinic and it will be run by Damon Logan of Premier wrestling club.

Scorese Brings Home 2 Golds Medals at AAU Tae Kwon Do Championship Cranford PAL wrestler Chris Scorese competed in the 2008 AAU Nationals Tae Kwon Do Championshuip in Madison Wisconsin on June 30, 2008 through July 5, 2008. Competitors from all over the country may compete by placing in State qualifying tournaments. Chris competeds in the Boys 8-9 year old Black Belt division and won two Gold medals at the event. 1) Forms competition, where competitors are judged on how well they perform a prescribed set of moves. 2) Points Sparring, where competitors fight and score points for strikes to the head and body. The Cranford wrestling family is very proud of you. Good luck at AAU Junior Olympics in Detroit, Michigan the week of July 31 through August 2, 2008.
Cranford's Coach Torsone Run Clinic The second session of summer wrestling was run by Cranford Head Wrestling coach Darren Torsone. Coach showed some new drills and a few moves on the mat. With it being a holiday week we still had 44 wrestlers show up for the clinic. I big thanks to Matt Digiovanni and Kyle Markovitch for helping out the past two weeks. It is all about giving back and making the Cranford wrestling family stronger!
Coach Poff of TNT Wrestling Gives Clinic The first week of summer wrestling was a big hit with 47 wrestlers showing up for the clinic. The first clinic was run by former Lock Haven head coach Carl Poff. Carl also run TNT wrestling camp that the Cranford wrestling team will attend in late July. We where also very luck to have this year 215 pound state champ Jessie Boyden stop by to help out. Next week Cranford High School head coach Torsone will be running the clinic. Monday, June 16 Kenilworth Dad Day Tournament Great job by the Cranford wrestlers at the Kenilworth Dad's tournament. Bringing home first place medals where Evan Kanterman, Gavin Murray, Connor Burkert and Ryan Burkert. Chase Gunther had a great day and came in second place. Monday, June 16 Great "8" Kick Off Classic Great job to Evan Kanterman for taking second place and Chris Wozniak for taking third at the Great "8" Kick Off Classic at Brick High School Monday, May 19 3rd Annual Cranford Wrestling Bocce Tournament The Third Annual Cranford Wrestling Bocce Tournament was hold Sunday May 18th at the Bottino Resort on the South Side of Cranford. The rain did not scare off any players(except Coach Kanterman), the whole day was filled with a lot of fun. This year there where 8 team (16 players) in the tournament and at the end of the day the team of Murray/Capece came home with the championship. Thanks to the Bottino's for a great day. Monday, May 5 Summer Wrestling 2008 Cranford summer wrestling Program will start Thursday Thursday June 26 at the Cranford High School wrestling room. The Summer wrestling will go every Thursday for five week with a different guest coach each week. It will run form 6 PM to 8 PM each week. It is limited to the first 40 to sign up. Cranford PAL Wrestling Banquet The Cranford PAL wrestling hold the end of the season banquet at the Westwood in Garwood Wednesday night. There where close to two hundred wrestlers and family that attended the event. The night was filled with awards, food, prizes and a lot of fun. The slide show and the high light movie where a big hit at the banquet. Thank you to the Carey Family for all there hard work this season. The guest speaker at the banquet was New Jersey 215 lb Wrestling State Champion Jesse Boyden. Thursday, February 21 Cranford Beats Roselle Park For the the fifth year in a row Cranford PAL wrestling team has defeat rival Roselle Park. The Cougars defeated Roselle Park 50-26 Wednesday night in Cranford. Cranford end the dual meet season with a mark of 16-1 and 14-1 in CJML "A" division. The 14 wins in CJML is a new team record, beating last year reord of 13. Winning for Cranford where Capece, Scorese, Digiovanni, McGovern, Gunther, Scaramuzzi, Busch, Murray, C. Burkert, and R. Burkert. Next up for Cranford will be the CJML Championship Tournament on March 2 in Kenilworth. Monday, February 18 Lacey Tournament Great job Sunday by the Cranford PAL wrestling team at the Lacey Tournament. Cranford had 21 out of 27 kids place with 10 champions. Saturday, February 2 Cranford Beats Watchung Hills The Cranford PAL Wrestling team took on Watchung Hill Saturday afternoon and came home with a 45-21 victory. Ryan Burkert had one of the great matches of the day when he won 2-0 in double overtime. Wednesday, January 30 Cranford Beats South Plainfield For the first time in almost 20 years the Cranford PAL wrestling team defeated State power house South Plainfield. With the cougars losing 35-33 going into Heavyweight Ryan Carey came up big with a :38 second pin to give Cranford a 39-35 victory. Also winning for Cranford where Scorese, Gunther, Murray, C. Burkert, R. Burkert, Cappello, and Carey. Saturday, January 26 Cranford Falls to Flemmington In a very exciting match the Cranford PAL fell to Hunteron County power house Flemmington 34-28. In one of the more exciting matches of the night Thomas Digiovanni came back in the third period to post a 3-2 win. The win was a total team victory. Down 24-0 David Busch came up with a big 3-1 win at 70 and got the ball rolling. Gavin Murray won at 73 followed by win by Conner Burkert and Ryan Burkert. Then Jarret Witzal came through with a big pin at 85. Niko Cappello had a big win at 90 beating the Bridgwater wrestler 2-0. Cranford still found them selfs down 25-30 going into the 102 match, where they pushed Andrew Tompkins up. Andrew was down 2-0 after the first period but in the second period Andrew came up with a hugh pin to give Cranford a 31-30 lead. A forfeit at Heavy weight sealed the deal for Cranford. Saturday, January 19 Cranford Beats Bridgewater "B" The Cranford PAL wrestling team beat Bridgewater "B" 70-9 Friday night at Lincoln Ave School. The Cranford PAL wrestling team traveled to Pennsylvania over the weekend to wrestle two matches and came home with two victories. In the first match Cranford beat Tunkhannock, Pa. 64-30 Winning for Cranford where Capece,Scorese, Digiovanni, McGovern, Scaramuzzi, Gunther, Murray, C. Burkert, R. Burkert, Witzal Birch and Carey. Ryan Carey had the quickest pin in the match , a 20 second pin. In the second match Cranford beat Wyoming Area, Pa. 94-0. After the match everyone stayed at the Woodlands Resort, where we had a great time swimming and eating pizza. Thank you to the parents club for buying the pizza. Cranford REC Team Opens Strong The Cranford REC team opened up the season with a very strong showing against Kenilworth. The Cranford wrestlers won 20 out of 30 matches. Great job to the REC team.
