CP Pool Construction News: Fall 2009

  • The first meeting for the Pool Committee is scheduled for Sept 23, which will kickoff the planning process.
  • "Approved the award of contract of architectural & engineering services to Arch Pac, Inc. in the amount of $206,000 for the renovation of the aquatic facilities at Mt. Diablo and College Park high schools."
  • No word yet on when construction will begin...

  • The budget to complete the College Park pool rehabilitation has been approved and the Pleasant Hill Park and Rec is working closely with the MDUSD to assure the project moves forward to success. More information will be provided as it becomes available.

MDUSD Board Meeting 3/24/09

The board requested a budget of $3,185,000 for the repair of the Mt Diablo and College Park pools using Prop 55 funds.

This is definitely a positive sign but there is still a long way to go.

MDUSD Board Mtg 2/24/09

Hi all, I attended the School Board meeting last night and spoke during the Public comment section of the meeting. The Board confirmed that the pool will be on a future agenda. I'm hoping it will be on for March 3 or March 10. After attending the meeting last night, I urge all concerned students and parents to attend the meeting. There is an opportunity after each agenda item for public comment. Anyone who wants to speak needs to fill out a "Comment" card prior to the beginning of the meeting, so I would get there about 15 minutes early (parking can be tough too!).

I think it would be appropriate and very beneficial for the swimmers and parents to speak out for the pool to show the Board our support . Plan your comment ahead of time as there is only 3 minutes allowed per speaker (it is timed!) I have attached my comment (see below) from the meeting last night. Let's cross our fingers that we get on the agenda soon and have good acceptable news. It is tough to ask the District about spending during this rough financial time but I hope being proactive on this issue, the pool will move forward. Let me know if you have any questions.

"I am a College Park parent and I hoping my topic will be an upcoming agenda item. Following the recent draining and identification of structural problems, the College Park High School swimming pool has been shut down. I would like to know the future of the College Park swimming pool. My questions to the Board are: 1. Are there plans to repair, rebuild or refurbish? 2. Are funds are available to accomplish any future plans? 3. What is the proposed time frame to have the pool up and running? 4. What support can be expected for our current water programs to ensure the students at College Park can continue to participate and have the same opportunities as other High Schools within the district. 5. Who at the District will be in charge of the “plan” for the pool? The College Park pool has been an important part of the District and sport community and I urge your consideration for the future of our pool. Thanks for your time."
