Cobras Beginning to Heat up in ASA Play
The Cobras started ASA in New Braunfels a few weeks ago and left with no victories. The last two weeks have been a different story. They have placed fourth and then second in the last two weekends of ASA play. "We have added a new team member with a very hot bat in Lauren Tamayo and she has helped us out defensivly" reported Coach Kevin. Consistancy on defense and in the hitting department have provided a number of victories the last two weeks. The hits were flowing like water in Southlake, but the Cobras scored more off the short game this past weekend. "We had to adjust to what the defense was giving us, and compared to last weekend, we were not hitting as well." What was pleasing about this weekend was we confirmed we can still play the short game, and we had a few kids start hitting the ball hard again (Lydia, Kelsey, and Taryn). If we can get everybody hitting at the same time and combine it with our ability to play the short game, reduce the errors on defense, and our pitching staff to come through we will be hard to beat" reported Coach Kevin. A special moment to come out of this weekend was Deanna Freeman pitched a perfect game against the Maniacs. All of her pitches were working and she kept the Maniacs off balance the whole game.

USSSA NIT Runner-up
The Cobras could not find an answer for the Glory this weekend. The Glory bats were hot! The Cobras had a couple of guest players which helped out greatly this weekend. Bailee Mauldon helped out at catching and in the lead off position in the batting order. Brittney Guest had some key hits and was strong all weekend defensivly. All in all the Cobras had some very close games and had to battle for each and every win. Coach Kevin was happy with the results. "We had been playing with no enthusiasm or focus the last two weeks of League play. I challenged the girls to show up and play up to their capabilities. They did"

USSSA Open Success
The Cobras continue to build their reputation as a winner. It was a typical weekend in Rowlett. The Cobras finished late and last on Saturday night and took the trip back home only to be the first back on Sunday morning. They played six games on Saturday losing one and four games on Sunday losing one. At the end of the day they outlasted all but one team Texas Splash. "We had very little left entering the Championship game. We battled several issues including, but not limited to bee stings. This team played at the top of their game all weekend. I was very proud of their effort, reported Coach Kevin." The Cobras last tournament will be in two weekends. They will end the Fall at USSSA State tournament.

Cobras Begin "A" Ball
The Keller Cobras began "A" tournament play last weekend. This is the first time they have moved up from "B" level. They did not have to go far joining nine other teams in North Richland Hills. The Cobras faced some great competition, but found a way to get to the Championship. In the Championship game they beat the Bat Busters to claim the number one spot for the weekend. It was a close game with some clutch bats by many and clutch pitching by BreAuna Velasquez. The real story here is this team coming together to win the tournament, according to Coach Kevin. "We asked the girls to start playing for themselves and their team, to put their training and abilities into every play, to earn respect by playing your best, and to go all out to make the play." This they accomplished.

Keller Cobras Win Metro
The Keller Cobras went undefeated in the ASA 12U "B" Metro tournament to claim their 3rd Metro title in as many years. This entitles them to go to the ASA 12U "B" Nationals in College Station. This would have been their third trip in as many years, but school schedules will prevent them from attending this year. Instead they will opt to stay home and participate in the USSSA 11U "B" Nationals in Garland. "Each year when we finish Metro I'm amazed at how much better our team is. We have improved so much this year" Coach Kevin reports. The Cobras will raise the bar again this Fall as they prepare to move up to "A" ball. "I'm looking forward to challenging this team further by participating in "A" during the Fall. We will probably have three choices travel, play USSSA, or play 14U "A" ball" reports Coach Kevin. The Cobras are ready and will soon be sporting a new look. Stay tuned.

Coppell Invitational Rained Out
The Cobras had a good start in Coppell. The team did well in pool game play. BreAuna and Meagan both had homeruns. Defense was good. We started out Bracket play with the Slammers and played a hard fought game. The Cobras did lose in the end 2-1. The remaining portion of the tournament was a little convulated. Games were cancelled Saturday night because of an approaching storm. The tournament was begain again on Sunday only to be rained out for the final time.

USSSA Success
The Cobras spent the weekend in Rowlett playing USSSA Softball. Our two defeats in bracket play came at the hands of the Slammers and the Mt. Pleasant Hurricanes. Both teams have been involved in championship play the last two weekends. Both games were very close. As it turns out the Cobras placed fifth in this tournament. Nothing to be ashamed of. The Cobras pitching was nothing short of excellent. The defense was agressive and excellent. The offense was sparse however. Once the Cobras develop some consistany in their hitting game they will be unstoppable. Stay tuned for their develoment. The Cobras next tournament is in Hurst in a couple of weekends.

Hurst Success
The Cobras finished up in 7th this weekend and our losses were at the hands of two very good teams. We faced the Tomboys in our second bracket game. The Tomboys won this game 2-0 and went on to place second to the Slammers in 2-1 extra inning game. The Hurricanes-Blue defeated us on Sunday 2-0. This was a big pitchers duel and went down to 2 outs, 2 strikes, and 2 on with time expired before a double by the Hurricanes ended the 0-0 tie. The Hurricanes were the third best team this weekend.
Our performance this weekend was improved in all areas of the game, but the biggest development was in our hitting. The Cobras finally started hitting as a team. Our short game will have to improve for us to defeat these championship teams in close games and we will have a chance to work on that this weekend in Coppell.

9th Team member joins the Cobras
Sarah McCarthy has joined the Cobras. She is the daughter of Stan and Lissa McCarthy out of Double Oak. She recently played for Flower Mound Rage - Purple. A very good organization. We are fortunate to have Sarah as a member of our organization. She has played outfield, short, catcher, and pitcher. She is currently taking both hitting and pitching lessons out of Irving. She will be helping the Cobras at catcher, short, and outfield, while pitching some of our pool games as she works on devloping her pitching skills. Please join me in welcoming the McCarthy family.

Trial run at Warehouse works, but a little crazy!
Batting and Pitching practice at the warehouse is a success, but with one coach missing and my in-ability to get there on time it was kind of crazy. Once we got all the stations going it worked out fine. Thanks to Stan McCarthy (Sarah's Dad)for stepping in at the heavy bag position. Coach Jim worked on the pitching machine, Coach Blake on the ping pong ball machine, and myself on soft toss. Everybody attended the four stations, but it was hard to pitch anybody during that time. In fact we will probably have to have pitchers come before batting practice starts or stay till after batting practice is finished. Keep this in mind when we head back to the warehouse for another indoor practice. Pitchers need to be there 30 minutes before we start or stay till after batting practice. Once again I was totally impressed by the focus, the interest, and the performance of the girls. Their batting skills are looking good to me! The team is making good progress from the left side as well. Our next practice has been moved from Monday to Tuesday. Thanks to those for bringing this mistake to my attention. We hope Coach Ron will be over his illness and be back with us on Tuesday.

Cedar Hill Tournament may not "make"
The Cobras second tournament scheduled for Cedar Hill on Feb 28 and March 1st, may not "make." At this time only two teams have signed up. It is a little early however. If this tournament does not make the only other option for the Cobras would be to travel to Houston that weekend.
