3. Why does CLL solicit volunteers?

Chesterfield Little League is a volunteer organization and cannot be successful without our volunteers. We ask that all parents become involved in your child’s playing experience. Volunteering opportunities range from becoming a Team Parent, Manager or Coach to simple tasks such as working in the Concession stand for a few hours, helping with field maintenance, or providing snacks to your child’s team. When everyone becomes involved, the League has more opportunities to run smoothly and this allows your family’s experience with Little League to be a great one.

4. How do I register for the 2010 Spring season?

Beginning with the Spring 2010 season, registration will be online registration ONLY.  Due to this being a transition year with the new process, CLL will hold in person registrations on Saturday, January 30th from 10am - 4pm at the Holiday Inn Express - Brandermill and on Saturday, February 6th from 10 am - 3pm at the Clover Hill Library.  You will still be required to register online, but will be able to use CLL computers and have Board members in attendence to assist with the registration process and answer questions.  You will need to bring the following items when you register:

a.  Current tetanus shot date.

b.  Birth certificate (for new players) - the certificate will not be kept, just used as proof of age.

c.  Payment - credit cards, checks, cash accepted.

5. Why do new players need to submit a copy of their birth certificates?

Birth certificates and proof of residency are required documents as determined by Little League. The birth certificate is necessary to insure players are put in the correct divisions, teams are drafted equally according to age requirements, and in the case that your child is asked to join one of the All–Star teams, the birth certificate is required again to show proof of age.

6. What does “League Age” mean?

For the 2010 spring season, a baseball player's "league age" is based on how old the player will be on April 30, 2010.

7. How does CLL assign players to divisions and teams?

Players are placed into Divisions based on age and in some circumstances, on ability. Teams (excluding Challenger, Blastball and TBall teams) are drafted by the coaches based on assessments obtained during skills assessments.

8. Are there tryouts for the Fall season?

There are no tryouts for the Fall Ball season. Players are placed on teams based on age and spring manager evaluations. The player agent works with the Fall Ball Director to “even out” the playing ability on each team to obtain teams as equal as possible.

9. How do I contact a CLL Board member with a question or concern?

Contact information for all Board members is listed on the “CLL Board” page.

10. What do I do if I have a problem with a coach or an umpire?

If you feel you have an issue/concern with any Manager or Coach, we ask that you first contact the Division Director for your child’s Division. This contact information is available on the “CLL Board” page. Your Division Director can work directly with the Manager and Coaches to address any concerns you have. If you speak with the Division Director and still have concerns or issues you feel have not been addressed, you may contact the Coach Coordinator, Jeff Church at
jchurch_cll@comcast.net.

11. I would like to buy my child a new bat (or glove). Do you have any recommendations?

In most cases, bats are measured in inches and weighed in ounces. Typically, a bigger, stronger player will prefer a longer heavier bat, while a smaller player will prefer a shorter lighter bat. Since a player's power is generated through bat speed, it is important that you can swing your bat through the strike zone at maximum speed. Keep in mind that the right bat for you is based on personal preference. Make sure the bat you pick feels good when you swing it. See our
Bats & Gloves Charts.  For Little League rules regarding bat and glove sizes, click here.

12. How can I be considered for a Manager/Coach/Umpire/Team Parent position?

This year CLL is changing its Manager/Coach/Umpire/Team Parent registration process. We’ve selected a new registration database vendor, Youth Leagues USA, and are moving exclusively to an online process.  For 2010, if you are interested in being a Manager, Coach, Umpire or Team Parent, you will be required to apply/register online. The online form will capture the equivalent LL Volunteer information and capture your County Background Check card number, but you will still need to submit a copy of your driver’s license (details will be in the form).

You may register online or you may come to either of the two player registration sessions to register via CLL provided laptop, or to submit the copy of your driver's license.  No one can be considered for a Manager, Coach, Umpire or Team Parent position or be permitted to perform the role without completing this process.  The online registration link will be active as of January 1, 2009. Every adult volunteering for one of the above positions at Chesterfield Little League must submit to a background/fingerprint check.  Final approval of assignments must be granted by the Board of Directors.

13. How can I volunteer for other positions?

There are always needs and opportunities to volunteer within Chesterfield Little League. Whether its building and grounds, concession, administration, or special events, all volunteers are coordinated through our Volunteer Coordinator, Kim Britton,
kbritton2@yahoo.com.

14. How are All-Star teams selected?

All-Star Player selection procedures can be found on both the Manager page as well as the Player/Parent Information page.

15. How are the CLL Board Members chosen?

Elections: The Nominating Committee reviews available Board positions and nominations of potential Board member candidates (open to all members of Chesterfield Little League) to develop a suggested slate of candidates. The slate is approved by the entire Board and the nominees are presented to the general membership at the annual General Membership meeting in September for election. Floor nominations are accepted at the General Membership meeting prior to the election. Following the General Membership election, the new Board elects its officers. The Board’s officers include the President, the Vice-President (Operations), the Vice-President of Baseball (Coach Coordinator), the Player Agent, the Secretary, the Treasurer, and the Safety Officer. The new Board members begin their terms at the first meeting in October.
