Chris Akers, Director – Prior to starting the CJVC in 2006, Coach Akers spent four years as Head Coach of the Varsity volleyball team at Columbus High School. He led the Lady Blue Devils to three Area Championships, two Elite Eight, a Final Four appearance in the State playoffs. In 4 years the program produced 17 All Bi-City players, 3 Area Players of the Year, and an All-State top 24 Seniors Award. Coach Akers is USAV CAP I certified. In his first year coaching club volleyball, Columbus' first travel team won 2 tournaments including a Southern Region Championship. A hard fought victory over 40 other teams from Alabama, Tennessee and Georgia.
Liz Underwood, Technical Director – Current Lee Scott Academy Head Coach. Underwood served as Auburn Head Coach from 1992 until 1997 and compiled a 99-81 record for a .550 winning percentage. During her time on the Plains the Tigers won their only SEC West Championship (1996) to date. While at Auburn, she coached three All-SEC First Team and six second-team selections as well as two SEC Freshmen of the Year. Prior to her head coaching stay at Auburn, Underwood had spent time at Louisville as the top assistant (1988-92) and at Colorado as the graduate assistant (1987-88).
Whitney Jacob, Head Coach - Whitney is a graduate of Auburn University where she was a four year starting Middle Blocker for the Auburn Volleyball Team. In her first year at Auburn, she was selected to the 2004 SEC All-Freshman Team. Over her four year career she was selected to four All-Tournament Teams. She finished ranked in the top 10 in the Auburn Career Record Books for Solo Blocks, Block Assists, Total Blocks per Game, Attack Percentage and Career Kills. She is the 11th player in Auburn history to reach the 1,000 Career Kills mark with a total of 1,093. Whitney started every match of her four year career at Auburn recording 113 consecutive career starts. As a high school competitor, Whitney was named the 2003 District 7 – 5A MVP. She was First Team All-State and twice received the 5A Top Blocker Award for the Dallas Area. Academically, Whitney was a 3 time selection to SEC Academic Honor Roll; the most a four year competitor may receive the award. In her first year at Auburn, Whitney received the Phi Kappa Phi Outstanding Freshman Student for the College of Liberal Arts. Twice in her four years she made the Dean’s List for the College of Liberal Arts. Whitney Graduated from Auburn Summa Cum Laude in May of 2008 with a degree in Health Promotion.
James Lindsey, Head Coach – Born and raised in the Columbus-Phenix City Area. James began his volleyball career playing recreationally in 1989. From there he started competing in local outdoor events and progressed to regional events where he took a silver medal at the Alabama State Olympic Games in 1994 and finished 2nd in Men’s A Division at Fudpucker’s Classic in 2000. Between 1990 and 1995 he competed on multiple USAV indoor teams with Coach Akers and current Head Coach at USC-Aiken, Glen Cox. In 1993 he was an assistant coach for the Columbus Volleyball Club Women’s BB team. James was a volunteer firefighter for Lee County from 1993-1998. He recently moved back to the area from Jacksonville, FL.
