JV Tournament Update
The JV War Eagles went to Cleveland Georgia this weekend and competed in 6 games against tough competition. We finished 2 and 4, but should have been 4 and 2 and were close to being 5 and 1. Final scores are as follows:
vs. Flowery Branch L 6-10
vs. North Hall L 4-5
vs. Lumpkin L 0-4
vs. East Hall W 9-3
vs. White County W 6-3
vs. West Hall L 3-8
All of these games were close and we competed well. This was some good experience for the future War Eagles.

War Eagles Lose In a Thriller
Coaches ejected. Fans ejected. Some poor officiating. And a great game played between two very good teams. Anyway, read below to read Jeff Hart's write up from accessnorthga.com
GAINESVILLE - It was a game that would have made Barnum and Bailey proud.
There was a balk. Two big errors. Coaches and fans tossed from the field. Timely hitting. Outstanding pitching. And excellent defense.
The only thing missing were some clowns, a trapeze act, and a guy getting shot out of a cannon.
In the end, however, Class AAA second-ranked West Hall came away with a wild 3-2 win over ninth-ranked Chestatee Thursday at Talon Field in one of the best games in Region 7-AAA this season in girls softball action.
"That was definitely one of the wildest games I've ever been involved in."
Warren Sellars
wildest games I've ever been involved in," West Hall coach Warren Sellars said with a chuckle. "Whew! I didn't know what was going to happen next."
With the win, the Lady Spartans (22-2, 8-0 in region) clinched the top spot in the upcoming region tournament. Chestatee (11-6, 4-4) dropped to sixth place with one game left in region play.
Chestatee coach Devin Thomas found himself having to miss the final two innings. Thomas was ejected following a close play at first base where a West Hall runner was called safe, which opened the door for what turned out to be a game-winning, two-RBI single by Courtney Gaines.
"From where I was standing it looked like she was on the bag. That was a big play because the next girl knocked in two runs," he said.
The hit by Gaines gave West Hall a 3-1 lead.
Chestatee answered with a run in its half of the fifth when Julie Garchow singled and then came all the way around to score on a West Hall throwing error on a bunt by Danette Irvin.
But Irvin, who tried to stretch it one base to far, was throw out at third on a great play by West Hall third baseman Brittany Seltrecht, who threw to third from her backside near home plate.
"That was a great, great play. Huge," Sellars said.
It turned out to be a game-saver because then West Hall pitcher Paige Hanson retired seven of the final eight Chestatee batters to preserve the win. She finished allowing seven hits and striking out six.
Hanson scored West Hall's first run in the fourth on a base hit by Lacey Bartlett following her two-out triple.
Irvin was just as solid going the distance for Chestatee. She allowed just five hits and struck out eight. But she walked three and hit one batter, two coming around to score.
Irvin gave the Lady War Eagles a 1-0 lead in the third inning on an inside-the-park home run.
Chestatee will play at Gainesville next Tuesday while West Hall will travel to play Gilmer, which had won five straight going into Thursday's game against Fannin County.

War Eagles Defeat Apalachee
Building on the momentum started at this past weekend's tournament, the War Eagles defeated Apalachee by the final score of 9 to 2. Danette Irvin picks up the win. All around this was a team win! Everybody on the team got in on the action. Next game is this Saturday at the Blueridge tournament.

War Eagles Fall to Falcons
The Lady War Eagles fell to the Lady Falcons of Flowery Branch by the final of 3 to 0. In JV action, the Lady War Eagles defeated the Lady Falcons by the final of 6 to 4.
The following courtesy of Jeff Hart at accessnorthga.com
GAINESVILLE - Looking to get back in the chase for the top spot in Region 7-AAA, the first of a two-day test for the Chestatee girls softball team was one to forget.
The Class AAA ninth-ranked Lady War Eagles could get little going against sixth-ranked Flowery Branch Wednesday, dropping a 3-0 decision to the Lady Falcons at Talon Field.
Chestatee (11-5, 4-3 in region) has lost two of its last three region games. Flowery Branch (21-8, 6-1) has won seven of its last eight games overall.
The Lady Falcons' Nicole Williams was dominating on the mound yielding ju
"Nicole has really been throwing well and we've been playing excellent defense."
Gerry Pope
st three hits and walking none while striking out four in a complete-game effort.
"Nicole has really been throwing well and we've been playing excellent defense the last few games. Things are really coming together for us," Flowery Branch coach Gerry Pope said.
As pleased as Pope was with his squad, Chestatee's Devin Thomas was just the opposite with his team, which fell to fourth place in the region.
"We're not playing very well at all right now," Thomas said. "We're really struggling at the plate. All those tournament games we missed are starting to show. We need someone to step up for us."
Danette Irvin pitched a solid game for Chestatee allowing just two earned runs on eight hits and one walk. She struck out seven.
Flowery Branch jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the second inning on an RBI single by Bailey Wittenauer and a passed ball. The Lady Falcons added another run in the fifth on an RBI hit by Brandee Allman. Both players finished with two hits.
Whitney Coleman, Ashley Dial, Brooke Hodge, and Deanna Johnson also had hits for the Lady Falcons.
Julie Garchow had two of Chestatee's hits and Kayla Taylor had the other.
Things don't get any easier for Chestatee, which plays host to No. 2-ranked West Hall Thursday at Talon Field.

New Player Update
I was going to do an article on our new player Torrie Crawford and give everyone who doesn't know her some information about her, but after only one game she was admitted to the hospital today for emergency surgery. We went and visited with her and her family and she is going to be fine but will be out of action for at least a week. Hopefully she will be at full strength by the region tournament. Get well soon!

Varsity Games Added This Week!
We have had an addition to the schedule. This Thursday we will play a double header against Fannin County at Talon Field. Game 1 at 4:30pm. Game 2 at 6:00pm. More information will be coming from your coaches on this.
Monday, October 3
COACHING STAFF THROWN OUT FOR TWO GAMES!
Due to some horrible officiating during last week's game against West Hall, we have lost Coach Thomas and Coach Garner for 2 games. The officiating led to a record for ejection at Talon Field with two coaches and 8 fans being ejected from the field. The fans will be allowed back for the next game. For the coaches, that will be 1 game against Gainesville on Tuesday as well as the first game of the Region tournament that will be missed. Coach Thomas, no stranger to ejection, had no choice but to fight for the team and the girls who were working so hard to win the game. Coach Garner suffered his first ejection ever in over 680 games coached. This will put a lot of pressure on Coach Parr, but she is up to the task. Let's make sure that we fans support the team more than ever over the next few weeks to make sure the girls and coaches know just how much we care!

War Eagles Finish 4 - 2 in Lanier Point Tournament
If we found out anything this weekend, Coach Thomas is right. We do have the target on our back...and hands, legs, feet, etc. Every game we played this weekend had the feel of big game Sunday! Our girls understand now.
In game 1 Friday, we were beat by Flowery Branch by the final score of 3 to 1. A questionable call at third when a Falcon runner got tangled up with Whitney who was playing third allowed the run to score when the umpire called interference. It got worse when Danette Irvin who was pitching a great game got beaned on the hand. Although this was probably unintentional, it was the first of 3 that Danette took this weekend. She was taken to the emergency room for X-Rays which were negative and returned to play on Saturday.
In game 2 Friday, the Lady War Eagles played much better in route to a 4 to 1 win over Forsyth Central. Sara pitched a very good game and the defense behind her played much better than in game 1.
In game 3 Saturday, with Danette's hand still swollen, Sara took the mound again against Habersham Central and was pitching pretty well until she started to feel pain in her elbow. Without hesitation, Coach Thomas put in Freshman Ashley Corn to finish the game. In the end, we just didn't get the hits and fell by the final score of 5 to 0.
In game 4, Danette returned to the mound against a strong Dawson County team. This game went into extra innings tied 7 to 7 as time expired. The War Eagles pushed a run across the plate and the defense held and we held on for an 8 to 7 victory.
In game 5, Ashley Corn started her first game against East Hall. AC pitched pretty well, and with the War Eagles down 2 to 0 Sara came in to finish the game. The War Eagles finished with a good 7 to 2 victory.
In game 6, we finally started to show what we could do against a pretty good Pickens team who had earlier defeated Habersham Central. A dominating pitching performance from Danette and strong hitting from everyone on the team led by Sara, Robin, and Hannah led us to a commanding 14 to 1 win.
The way the brackets were set up we had to wait through 2 games to find out if we would proceed in the tournament. We all felt if we could get in the finals, we were getting hot and could cause some damage. We missed it by a couple of runs. All in all, I think this team grew up a lot over the weekend. We played some tough competition. The older players started doing their part and the younger players showed that they can step it up a notch or two when asked to do so. I don't think any of the players, parents, and fans can wait until our next game now!

Upcoming Fundraising Events
Before and during the upcoming season we will be having various fundraisers to help the ladies meet their goals! The booster club will be buying new uniforms, shoes, catching equipment, etc., and will also be paying for travel trips to tournaments. Running a first class organization doesn't just happen, but in my opinion, there isn't enough that we can do for these ladies to support them. Just think back to last season and how good it felt to be rewarded for the hard work and effort with our 2nd Region title in 3 years. I think we all want that experience again. There is a lot that needs to be done quickly.
Currently we have the discount card sales. If you haven't yet, turn in your funds from selling the discount cards to Coach Parr. We also plan on having the hit-a-thon (tentatively scheduled for August 6th), a car wash, sign sales and renewals, and if you have any other ideas please speak with one of the coaches or booster club officers.
One way to show your support right now is to buy a specialized email account from this site. We have updated this website and now have our own domain address. With this upgrade, you can buy a custom email for yourself, player, family member, etc. If you can log on this site, you can go to your email account. I would love for every player on the team to have this. It is something special that no one else has. For more information see Jerry Armour. Info will also be provided at the first booster club meeting.
Lets work hard for the ladies on the team. They have a lot of hard work ahead and need our support now!

What's happening? What's coming up?
For the past few days, the coaches have conducted some very brutal tryouts, and we have come out the better for it! Every girl that came to these tryouts gave 100% and that hard work will pay off this season. With temperatures close to 100 degrees, the team was worked out hard under the close supervision of the coaching staff. The results of the tryouts will be announced at Thursday's practice. Over the next few days there is a lot going on: Practice Thursday 9:00 am until 11:00 am. Booster club meeting Thursday at 7:00 pm in the cafeteria. Practice Friday??? (TBD) Pictures August 1st (time to be determined) Practices all week. Hit-a-thon on August 6th (time to be determined) Lots happening! Be there!!!

HIT-A-THON Fundraiser Saturday August 6th at Noon
We have a very important fundraising event coming up on Saturday August 6th starting at Noon until around 2:00pm. This event will be a little different than in the past because we will be competing against the East Hall Lady Vikings. The winning team will win a gift from Archie's Sporting Goods! For this event to really be successful, we will need the following:
1. Each player needs to get at least $0.10 (one dime) per foot. That means if your best hit goes 200 feet, the donation to the team will be $20.00. We need for each player to get 15 people signed up as a sponsor for this event. If you can't get 15 people, get as many as you can. If you have someone who just wants to donate a lump sum, take it. We all need to work hard to make this work.
2. Each player needs to invite 3 to 5 friends to come out for this. Admission to the park is only $1.00. We need as many people out there cheering for us as possible. Start calling your friends now, and on Friday when you get back to school, tell as many people as possible - friends, teachers, etc.
We need to get the whole school and community excited about this team and this upcoming season. We are pre-season ranked #2 in the state. How many teams in our area can say that?!? If people give coming out to watch a fastpitch softball game a try, I feel pretty sure they will like what they see and come back for more.
If you have any ideas that could make this fundraiser more successful, let everybody know and do it! Parents, be serious with this because we have a long way to go and we need to make every effort count. This being our first fundraiser of the year, it is very important that we start out on the right foot!

War Eagles Hit-A-Thon A Success
Today's hit-a-thon at Talon field was a success. The place was full of War Eagle and Viking fans as East Hall came to challenge us. At the end of the day when all of the hits were tallied, the War Eagles Varsity and Junior Varsity teams came out on top. There were some great hits by both teams. For the JV, Ashley Corn hit one 205 ft in the air to take longest hit on the fly. For the Varsity, Robin Forrest blasted one 220 ft in the air to take the longest hit on the fly contest. During intermission, there was a round the base competition between 5 Vikings and 5 War Eagles. The fastest time posted was 12.0 by Laura Howington.
Thanks Lady War Eagles for working so hard! This season is just getting started but I think good things are in store for you.
Thanks to Archies Sporting Goods for sponsoring the event! Archies donated 2 brand new bats and a glove which were raffled off as well as a gift certificate that went to the winning team.
Also, thanks to all of the East Hall people who came to Talon Field and displayed class during the competition. The East Hall people are good folks who love their kids and really support the softball there. We will be going there next Thursday and will show them the same class they displayed here today. Thanks Vikings!
Last, thanks goes out to all of the supporters who helped make today's event successful!

A Tough Two Weeks Ahead
This season has had some ups and downs. Beginning with our pitching machine being stolen at the end of last season, missing 2 scheduled tournaments, and then the latest break in and valdalism of our concession stand, we have had our share of drama. We haven't played enough to really get on a roll, but are still ranked #8 and have a 10 win 3 loss season.
In the next 2 weeks we have 4 tough region games. On Tuesday 9/20/05 we travel to North Hall to take on the Lady Trojans. Although the Lady Trojans seem a bit down this year, I expect a very tough game on their field. We had better be ready to play. Then on Thursday 9/22/05, the Lady Warriors of White County pay a visit to Talon Field. White County is just coming off a big win over North Hall and will be ready to play.
The following week will be the toughest of the year. On Tuesday 9/27/05, the #6 Lady Falcons of Flowery Branch come to Talon Field. They have beat us once this year. I think we need to repay the favor. Then on Thursday 9/29/05, the #2 Lady Spartans of West Hall come to Talon Field. This game will be a real test for us. Again, we had better have our game face on!
Let's get on a roll!

Lady War Eagles down White County
By BeN Valentine

Chestatee(11-4, 4-2 in region) got a 4-1 win over the Lady Warriors(3-11, 2-4) behind some steller defense.

Irvin pitched a complete giving up only one run on 4 hits and striking 4 batters. She struggled with her control, giving up five walks.

Irvin pitches one-hitter to lead Chestatee
By Ben Valentine
GAINESVILLE Chestatees Danette Irvin was on her game Thursday night as she pitched a one hitter to help the Chestatee Lady War Eagles defeat Gilmer in a Region 7-AAA game.

Irvin pitched the entire game striking out 3 batters and only giving a run to get the win. Shes getting back into the swing of things. We did a good job all around, Chestatee coach Devon Thomas said about the win.
The Lady War Eagles had 11 hits in the game to help their pitcher, Were starting to hit a little bit, since only getting 2 hits against Pickens, Thomas said.
Chestatee was able to score first, taking a 3-0 lead in the third inning. Julie Garchow, Sarah Applegarth, and Robin Forest had three straight singles with one out in the third. Forest's single drove in Garchow to take a 1-0 lead.
Jessica Paige then reached on an error that scored both Applegarth and Forest to give Chestatee a 3-0 lead.
Irvin had a no-hitter going through 5 innings before Gilmer was able to get a hit on her. Gilmers only hit came with one out in the sixth inning when pitcher Sarah Jones singled into right field to score Elise Gates to make the score 3-1.
The lady War Eagles then put up three more runs for security in the bottom of the inning. Chestatee had 5 straight singles to score their runs and put the game out of reach.
The top batters for Chestatee were Hannah Cooper who was 2-3 with a run, Laura Howington was 2-3, Kayla Taylor was 1-3 with an RBI, and Julie Garchow was 1-4 with a RBI and a run.

Congratulations to the War Eagles Football team for winning their 5th game in a row tonight on a rainy field against the North Hall Trojans ruining their homecoming party by a final of 17 to 10! This win is great for all of the players, coaches, parents, and fans. After last year when North Hall unnecessarily ran up the score against us this was great! Well done guys!

War Eagles Advance on Day 2
The War Eagles defeated a much improved Lady Red Elephant squad today by the score of 11 to 2. This game showed a great effort on the mound by Danette and everybody on the team proved that they wanted to do whatever it took to win. As I write this, there is a cloud over the win. Robin Forrest who is our senior co-captain had popped up for an out. Of course everyone was looking at the ball. When the ball was caught we looked for Robin and saw her slumped over home plate. Coach Thomas and Coach Parr rushed over to her followed by Officer Seth Day and James Martin. The first thought that came to my mind was this must be serious because if you know Robin, you know how tough she is. After about 10 minutes she was carried from the field with a knee injury. Gainesville FD came out and took her to the emergency room. I don't know the status at this time but will post as soon as word comes. Anyone who knows Robin know just how great a player she is, but also know just how strong of a person she is. Our prayers are with her and I just hope she will be back tomorrow night as we face North Hall at 4:00. Chances are, whether she plays or not, she will be there.

Thanks Seniors For Your Hard Work!
This year's team had a lot of pressure on them because of past accomplishments and just the thought of so many experienced seniors on one team. Even though the season ended sooner than we had hoped, this should still be remembered as a successful season where we competed against some very strong competition. This group of girls worked very hard for years and are a major part of the success we have experienced during that time. These young ladies will be missed: Sarah Applegarth Jamie Burke Hannah Cooper Robin Forrest Laura Howington Greta Langhenry Whitney Owings From your underclassmen teammates, coaches, parents, booster club and fans, thanks for the hard work you have given over the last 4 years. Your hard work helping to develop a successful program will be felt for years to come.

Softball Banquet / Year End Awards Details
This past Saturday the Lady War Eagles officially closed out the 2005 season with a season ending banquet at Outback Steakhouse. After a good meal, Coach Parr and Coach Garner gave speaches and passed out team awards. It was a sad time as this is the last season that Coach Parr will be on the staff. She has two sons who play football and she has really given up a lot of her time that she probably should have spent with her boys but gave to the girls and the team. Her dedication and spirit will be missed. However, she said she would still come to as many game as possible and would still take care of the girls in the class room. Next Coach Garner stood in for Coach Thomas who was not at the banquet due to a prior commitment, and did a solid job. Coach Garner - who has a story for everything - put the season in perspective and was elegant in doing so. Award Winners for the Varsity were: Lady War Eagle Award - Robin Forrest MVP - Sarah Applegarth Silver Bat - Dannette Irvin Golden Glove - Terri Armour Most Improved - Jessica Page Hustle Award - Julie Garchow Award Winners for the JV were: MVP - Ashley Corn Leadership Award - Rachel Montrois Most Improved - Daphne Carder Hustle Award - Allyson Echols Note: If I have made any mistakes in the above awards reporting, please let me know as I was under the weather Saturday and this is all by memory. Maybe we did not reach our very lofty goals this year, but I agree with Coach Garner that everything happens for a reason. I feel confident that this season will have given us a foundation to build on for next year. And the seniors who are leaving the team this year will certainly be able to look back and say they were successful over their entire careers. With the Region championships and state appearance they participated in, they helped set the bar! With that said, even with this years team having 7 talented seniors, we did play a lot of younger players and will return 7 players with starting experience to next year's team. We will also have some very talented younger players moving up from JV to Varsity next year so the outlook is very good for 2006. Our expectations for this team next year should be set high as is normal for this program starting with another Region championship and State appearance! I'm looking forward to it!
