War Eagles Bring 3rd Place Trophy Home
![]() |
The War Eagles played in the Gilmer County Invitational this weekend and finished a strong 3rd in a tournament that was filled with controversy. This is what happened:
Friday's Games:
Game 1: War Eagles play close but fall to Region 7-AAAA powerhouse Southeast Whitfield by the final score of 3 to 1.
Game 2: War Eagles defeat Towns County by the final score of 12 to 0.
Saturday's Games:
Game 3: War Eagles defeat Banks County by the final score of 8 to 0.
This is where things became confusing. We were 2 and 1 with a +16 run advantage, and somehow we found we were seeded 4th...seems like someone changed the rules in midstream. Either way, we had to play Southeast Whitfield again. This game was going to be the real championship game.
Game 4: War Eagles lose a thriller to Southeast Whitfield 3 to 2 - in a game that ended on a very bad call at the plate...
Game 5: War Eagles gut out a win over Gilmer by the final score of 4 to 3.
Great job ladies! We are proud of the 3rd place finish...and we all learned a little more about tournament ball.

The War Eagles defeated the Vikings in a game that started close but was finally blown wide open by the final score of 15 - 0. There are too many highlights to mention, but the game ended on a Grand Slam Home Run! Great game War Eagles. Click on the headline to go the the Gainesville Times article.
In the JV Game, East Hall came out on top 8 to 4. The young War Eagle JV came out with the jitters and let EH jump out 6 to 0 before settling down to finish out playing well.

Way to go War Eagles! Good luck this weekend in Douglasville!
Saturday, September 11
War Eagles Earn 3rd Place Trophy!
The War Eagles spent the last two days in Douglasville playing in the Douglas County Invitational. Starting in the Gold Division, we knew the competition would be tough and it was.
Game 1 was against a very strong Cedartown. It was a defensive battle but Cedartown got just enough to pull out a tough fought 4-0 win.
Game 2 was against 4-AAAA Chapel Hill. Again, a combination of defense and pitching and Chapel Hill pulled away with a 5-0 win. This was not exactly the way we wanted to start the tournament. Day 1 is over.
Game 3 on Saturday was against host Douglas County. The bats came alive and the defense was stong and the War Eagles pull away with an 11-0 win.
In between game 3 and 4, there was a moment of silence held for the 911 victims and all of the men and women serving today. Thanks to everyone who is currently serving and protecting our freedom! You are greatly appreciated!
Game 4 was against a tough and gutsy Heard County Team. After a very hard fought game, the War Eagles pulled out a 2-0 win.
Game 5 began the elimation rounds. After everything was said and done, we had to play Heard County again. Ahead 4-0 in the 6th inning, a Heard County player running home "did not slide" and put two forearms right to Taylor's head! Coach Thomas argued the call (and rightfully so!) and was ejected from the field. I will not go into details here, but Coach Parr took over and we finally pulled out a very hard fought 4-3 win.
Game 6 we had to play Chapel Hill again. The War Eagles played with guts and heart and determination and everything else you like to see but fell in the end by the final of 5 - 2.
Game 7 was the final game against Carrolton and we knew we were playing for the 3rd place trophy. A little disappointed that we were not in the championship game, the ladies put on their game faces and after a close call where I thought for a moment that Coach Parr might be asked to join Coach Thomas, went out and played their hearts out winning by the final of 10 to 3!
In the championship game, Chapel Hill pulled out the win over Cedartown. We lost 3 games in this tournament and 2 were against a very solid Chapel Hill team who went undefeated and won the tournament. (After thinking for a moment about our 5 losses this year, 4 of those losses have been to 2 AAAA teams (SE Whitfield and Chapel Hill).
Great tournament WAR EAGLES!!!!!!!!

War Eagles Sweep Fannin County
Today at Talon Field, the War Eagles defeated Fannon County by the final score of 10-0. Every player on the War Eagles Varsity team got a hit. Great game!
In the JV game, the War Eagles won by the final score of 11-4! This was a very good evening for the War Eagles!
UPDATE: The rained out Pickens County game has been rescheduled for tomorrow, 9/15/04 at Talon field. JV start is 4:30, and the Varsity start time is 6:00!

War Eagles Roll On With Win Over Pickens
The War Eagles started a little slowly tonight but, spurred on by some excellent defense, the bats came alive and the War Eagles pulled away with a 7 to 1 win! Great win!!!
In the JV game, the War Eagles kept close for most of the game but fell by a final of 10 to 4.

Today's Game At Gilmer Rained Out
![]() |
UPDATE: This game will be played on 9/22/04 at 5:00 at Gilmer.
Sunday, September 19
Wow! What A Week Ahead!
Wow is right! The week coming up is going to be important and busy for both the Varsity and JV!
First up for the Varsity and JV is North Hall at Talon Field on Tuesday. This is a very important game for both the War Eagles and North Hall as it is a region contest between the War Eagles ranked #8 in the State and North Hall who is ranked #7 and went all the way to the State Championship game last year and was pre-season favorites to win it all this year. Be sure to tell everyone in your family and at school to be at the game and cheer the War Eagles to a victory. This should be a very fun evening with lots of surprises for all.
NOTE: The postponed game against Gilmer has been rescheduled for Wednesday 9/22/04 at 5:00pm at Gilmer County!!!
Next, the War Eagles travel to White County on Thursday to face their region foe Lady Indians of White County. Last year White County pulled out a win in extra innings in the rain to win. This year the game should be very interesting for many reasons. Lets all go up there (roadtrip!!!) and cheer the War Eagles to victory.
Then it is on to the White County JV tournament in Cleveland beginning on Friday at 4:30 for the War Eagles and concluding sometime on Saturday. Again, make sure everyone you know is up there for this to cheer the War Eagles on!
Go War Eagles!!!!!

War Eagles Beat By Lady Trojans
North Hall swept both the JV and Varsity games at Talon Field tonight winning the Varsity contest by the final of 5 to 0. It was just one of those nights where we couldn't get the bats going topped off with a few errors. It is time to forget it and move on because we have Gilmer next. I believe the ladies will bounce back!
The JV lost by the score of 10-3.
This was a big night with lots going on. The drum corps were there and the National Anthem was played by a horn section from the band. An 11-12 year old Lady Eagles team was there. The place was packed!
AM 1240 The Ticket with Gene and Joel were on hand to broadcast the game over the radio. It really was an exciting night. Looking around, this is something you wouldn't have seen a few years back...a sport that is really taking off. As more and more people get interested, the bigger it gets. We have a program here at Chestatee that is moving in the right direction and one we should be proud of!

Gilmer Blanks War Eagles
Tonight in the make up game against Gilmer County, the team pounded out 10 hits but just could not get anyone across the plate in a 7-0 loss. The ladies really need to focus and get back on track for tonight's game at White County.
Thursday, September 23
War Eagles Bounce Back BIG!
Tonight the War Eagles defeated the Warriors of White County by the final of 11 to 0. With two defeats in the last 2 days, the ladies needed to bounce back and they did. Outstanding defense early in the game from the outfield and the infield made some great plays en route to a 1 hitter from Danette Irvin...and that was a bloop hit that Hannah Cooper almost turned into an out. Dominating performance all the way around. It is just what the Doctor ordered! This is what we needed to get us back on track.
In the JV contest, White County beat the CHS JV 10 to 5. There is a lot that needs to be worked on but at times the ladies looked like a well oiled machine. We just need to put together a whole game.

Change In JV Tournament Brackets
Please look below at the JV Tournament brackets with game times. Two teams have withdrawn, and the schedule below has been updated.
Friday, September 24
JV Tournament in White County
Tonight was the first night of the JV Tournament in White County, and the War Eagles went 1 and 1. I will summarize the tournament in this news article.
In Game 1 vs. Pickens County, the War Eagles came out on top by the final of 8 to 2. Good hitting, fielding, and pitching combined for a complete team win.
In Game 2, the West Hall "JV" team defeated the War Eagles 13 to 3. It looked like they left their regular JV team back in Oakwood for this one. Hey that is ok! Our 8th and 9th grade players got some more needed game experience that will pay off in the years to come.
Saturday: Game #3 vs. East Hall. The Vikings beat the War Eagles 18 to 6. Nothing went right.
Game #4 vs. Lumpkin was a better played game but the War Eagles still lost by the final of 5 to 0.
Game #5 vs. Flowery Branch was the final game of the day and the War Eagles put it together to win by the final of 9 to 7.
All in all we must remember that we have a very young team and the players need to come out of this with a learning experience that they can build on in the future.

Still "Top 10" Ranked
After a brutal week of back to back to back region games, the War Eagles remained in this week's state rankings dropping 1 spot to #8. This week, the War Eagles travel to Flowery Branch on Tuesday to play the Lady Falcons, and West Hall on Thursday to play the Lady Spartans in two very important region contests. Last week was grueling from both a mental and physical aspect. I think having the past few days off combined with the big win over White County will have the War Eagles back on track!
Tuesday, September 28
War Eagles Sweep Flowery Branch
Tonight - even with some of the ladies not playing 100%, the War Eagles Varsity won a tight game by the final of 4 to 3 with the winning run crossing the plate in the 7th inning. We may not be exactly where we want to be, but we showed signs of getting there.
In the JV game, the War Eagles rolled to a 13 to 7 victory.
Next game this Thursday vs. the Lady Spartans of West Hall away.
Thursday, September 30
War Eagles And Spartans Battle Tonight
Tonight the War Eagles visit West Hall to play the Lady Spartans in what looks like the game which will decide second place in the region. With both teams on a recent roll, this should be a good game!
Thursday, September 30
War Eagles Win A Thriller!!!
The War Eagles defeated the Lady Spartans of West Hall tonight by the final of 5 to 3. West Hall took a 1-0 lead into the 7th inning when the War Eagles put 1 on the board. After a 1-2-3 bottom of the 7th, the game went into extra innings and the War Eagles took control pulling ahead 5 to 1. West Hall put 2 more on the board but the War Eagles held on to get a much deserved win. With the win, the War Eagles take of 2nd place in Region 7-AAA. Great game ladies! Next week we have Gainesville at home and then it is the Region tournament.
In the JV contest, the War Eagles held a 4 to 3 lead going into the bottom of the final innning allowing 5 runs to lose by the final of 8 to 4. This was the final game for the JV and the team really improved from the first of the year. A very young team will still be young next year but will have a year of experience that maybe some of the older teams we have faced this year will not have. Great season girls!
Tuesday, October 5
War Eagles Defeat Gainesville
Tonight, the War Eagles defeated the Gainesville Lady Red Elephants by the final score of 20 to 1. The War Eagles jumped out to an early lead and never looked back. The win gives the War Eagles 2nd in Region 7-AAA with a 16 and 7 record losing only twice to AAA teams. Chestatee also finishes the regular season ranked #7 in the state. The Region tournament starts next week at Lanier Point. Once I have the final seedings and schedule, I will post. The real season starts next week and the War Eagles have picked a great time to be rocking on all cylinders. Congratulations Ladies!
Also, this was the final home game for our 3 seniors. Before the game each lady was recognized for their devotion to the team as well as their plans for the future. Stephanie Cantrell, Mallory McCord, and Taylor Burke...you all will me missed! Thanks for being such great seniors on this team and Good Luck!

WAR EAGLES DEFEAT NORTH HALL
![]() |
Tonight the War Eagles Defeated North Hall in a thriller of a game by the final score of 2 to 1 snapping the #3 Lady Trojans 24 game region win streak! This was a game that was tense from the start and the place was packed. North Hall took a 1 to 0 lead late into the game when the War Eagles struck for 2 runs to take the lead. In that inning our pitcher Danette Irvin was injured when she was diving back into 2nd and took a knee to the shoulder and head. She left the field in obvious pain but came back to pitch in the last inning saying she wanted to finish what she started. Getting into a little trouble with the help of the ump behind the plate, North Hall had bases loaded with 2 outs and Irvin struck out the final batter for out 3. The War Eagles move on and are the only team without a loss in the tournament.
Next game is tomorrow at 6:00pm vs the winner of North Hall / West Hall. Great Win War Eagles!!!!!

WAR EAGLES WIN REGION 7-AAA CHAMPIONSHIP!!!
![]() |
But the credit goes to the young ladies on the team for working so hard this year, playing the tournament undefeated and bouncing back from such adversity they have experienced this season! Beating "the team to beat" twice in two nights to win the Championship is a great accomplishment that each and every one of you - especially you Senior players - will remember for the rest of your lives!
Click on the headline above to be transported to the story that gives the details of the game! To be honest, emotionally speaking I just don't think I could give the story of this game and this tournament justice!
Also, if you don't think this was an important night check this out. This game was covered by Access North Georgia.Com, Gainesville Times, AM 1240 the Ticket broadcast the game, and CBS channel 32 out of Toccoa had a film crew out there! Fastpitch softball is really taking off in this area!
This championship gives the War Eagles a number 1 seed in the State North Sectional tournament that begins next week right here in Gainesville at Lanier Point. The ladies have worked very hard to get here, and need to finish in the top 4 of a 16 team field to move on to the Final 8 in Columbus for the State Championship. More than ever, we need your support! Tell everybody you know to get to these games next week to support and help the Chestatee War Eagles "GO THE DISTANCE"!!!!!!
NOTE: This team has found it's niche...click on the "RECORD" at left and check out the scores. Look at the scores from the season and this tournament. If it is a close game - within 2 to 3 runs - this teams finds a way to win!
