After two days of tryouts we have a little more than 60 girls and a couple of boys fully registered. We conducted tryouts last Wednesday and Friday. We will have a second round of tryouts 13 and 14 Nov. See "My Site News" section for more details. The purpose is to give us another look at as many girls as possible and to allow any players still interested in joining CGVA to sign up.
Unfortunately the Perry Recreation Center did not unlock the gym for us as they had agreed to do and we had to make quick arrangements with the Robins AFB gym staff to move Friday's tryout to their location. It was a lot of extra driving and we got started late, however, once we got to the gym everything came together very well. I honestly believe we have one of the most talented and enthusiastic group of girls I have seen in the four years I have been involved with the program. I really appreciate the patients of the parents, the enthusiasm of the players, and the commitment of the coaches to help make this year's tryout a big success. And I especially want to thank the Robins AFB gym staff, who continue to be our program's saviors.
Mark and the rest of the coaches will be going through the results of the tryouts to determine the make-up of our teams. Once that has been determined the coaches will be able to build the practice schedule. Currently our only confirmed practice facility is the Robins AFB gym on Wed nights from 6 to 8 PM and on Sat mornings from 9 to 11 AM. The Perry Recreation Center practice schedule is not yet confirmed. We REALLY need the help of everyone in our program to check with churches and any other facilities with gyms to see if we can get their support. I have checked with a number of churches and the old YMCA and so far I only have a tentative commitment from one church and a lot of "no room at the inn."
The entire $50 we collected for registration goes to the Southern Region Volleyball Association (SRVA). The remaining $350 will be collected in increments, to reduce the burden to all of us. However, we need to collect $100 as soon as the teams are assigned so that we can order uniforms. The remaining cost will be collected in Dec/Jan, however, those of you with big money can pay it all at once up front.
I conducted Parent Meetings at both tryouts, in order to provide as much info as possible, as soon as possible. We will probably schedule another meeting once all the teams are formed and we get the program rolling. You can also keep informed via email, the web site and/or by calling me at 714-8246 or by calling your daughter's coach, once that has been determined.
