Cape Fear Youth Hockey Association: Visiting Teams

Fort Bragg is known as the "Home of the Airborne and Special Operations Forces." Fort Bragg is the home for the XVIII Airborne Corps and the 82nd Airborne Division. The US Army Special Operations Command and the US Army Parachute Team (the Golden Knights) also call Fort Bragg home. In addition to these fine units, Ft Bragg is home to the Cape Fear Jr FireAntz!

A map of Ft Bragg can be found here.  (This map is of all Ft Bragg MWR facilities.  Please be sure to look for the Cleland Ice Rink (item 12), located in section C-2 on the map.)  Cleland Ice rink can be found at  Bldg 3-1606 Reilly Street (just north of Longstreet) and Phone: (910) 396-5127.

Access to Ft Bragg can be difficult for those not used to accessing a controlled post.  Ft Bragg has published information on making this a much easier experience.  You can read the published material here.  However, here is some information to make your trip a bit easier:

As your teams travel to Cleland Ice Rink on Fort Bragg Army Base, here are some items to help you make a smooth transition onto the Base.  Depending on traffic, you could get through the checkpoint in less than 5 minutes or so, but if you end up behind several cars being inspected, that time will change!

1.  Anyone 16 and older MUST have a valid ID (Driver’s License works best)

2. Every car coming onto base must be inspected (unless you have a valid DoD decal) at the Gate Check Point (make sure you get in an “inspection lane”, there are several lanes for those with MILITARY OR GOVERNMENT IDS, don’t go into one of those.)

a.       This involves exiting the vehicle (everyone, all though they sometimes let little children stay in the car)

b.      Raising your vehicle hood and all doors, in addition to any glove boxes/consoles

c.       Standing at the designated area while vehicle is inspected

3.       You must also hand the officer your vehicles CURRENT registration with the Driver’s licenses (make sure your registration is CURRENT)

4.       If any of your team or parents are Foreign Citizens – the procedure is DIFFERENT.  It involves getting a military escort on base and/or placing your name on a list prior to the day you arrive.
