Welcome to the GRIZZLY CHEER Website!

• About Our Cheer Program: We are cheerleaders for Calvary Chapel Christian School in Downey, CA.  We currently have 3 teams, a Jr. High, JV, and Varsity team.  We cheer at all boy's and girl's athletic events, Pep Rallys, and other various school functions.  We participate in a variety of ministries throughout the year, such as The Relay For Life, The Walk For Life, volunteering at the Midnight Mission in L.A., and many more. Along with cheering on our athletes and volunteering, we also compete in Cheer competitions starting in December and ending in March. God has definitly blessed our program and we continue to grow each year!

• Our Goal:  As we cheer on our fellow athletes and student body, we strive to live above reproach in our encouragement, our school spirit, our academics, our examples, our relationship with the Lord, and our team unity; always keeping in mind that this is more than just a team, it's our family and this is more than just a sport we love, it's our ministry!

• Our Team Motto: "Dream Big. Work Hard. Never Give Up!"   (2 Thess. 3:13)  Such simple words, yet we know that it isn't always that easy ... We trust and depend on the fact that with God's help, we can acheive anything!

CONGRATULATIONS Grizzly Cheerleaders!!!

You all worked so hard and pushed yourselves and each other to be the best and you definitely proved that at the Esperanza Regional!  FIRST PLACE! ...  What an accomplishment!!  Be proud of yourselves and keep the momentum and positive mental attitudes up!  You ladies are AMAZING!  Now lets switch gears and focus on Nationals! ... March 7-9 ... the countdown begins!

   With the holiday season here, we have many opportunities to have times of fellowship and fun together as a team!  Here are the currently scheduled events, please be flexible, as sometime thigs might get switched around  or cancelled last minute.  More info will be given as we approach them and info will also be available in the calendar schedule of the website.  Here's what we have going on so far:

*Follow the Star & Movie with High School ASB:  Saturday, December 8

          Mrs. Garcia and the High School ASB have invited us tojoin them in the second half of their Christmas party! We will be meeting at the Garcia's at 6pm and will be carpooling to a live outdoor production of the life of Jesus called "Follow the Star."  Afterwards we will be going to the theaters to watch the movie, "Enchanted" together!  This is not a Calvary sponsored event! 

*Cheer Ornament Exchange:  Monday, December 10  

          It's tradition!  We are going to have our annual ornament exchange with all 3 teams!  Please bring an ornament to exchange with everyone (should not be more than $5) and bring in the frame (you will be given this) completely decorated for your Big/Little Sister.  Pictures will be given to you at this event to put in the frame!  Mrs. Kravig will also be joining us to share a little something sweet with us from her heart!  Get ready for some snacks and fun fellowship!

*JH Christmas Party!:  Friday, December 14

          Get ready for a night of fun!  We will start the festivities at Chelsea's house at 7pm with dinner and some gift exchanges followed by a trip to the ice skating rink for some crazy "Cosmic Skating" and ending the night as a sleep over at Chelsea's!  Please plan on bringing a gift for the gift exchange ($10-15 limit) and $11 for ice skating.  A flyer will be sent home with all of the details.

*HS Christmas Party!:  Tuesday, December 18

          All of JV and Varsity will be having their party this year at Sarah's house!  Plan on bringing a gift for the gift exchange ($10-15 limit).  More details of the night's events are in the works ... so stay tuned!

It's that time of year again ... the Downey Christmas Parade is here! 

The parade is going to be on Sunday, December 2.  We are going to meet at the Cafe at 11 am and we will leave together, with the band, to the parade site.  After the parade is done, we will be coming back to the school.  Parents and family are welcomed to come to the parade and cheer on the girls as they represent Calvary!  The parade itself will start at 1:30 pm.  Parents, please make sure you complete the permission slip and have your duaghter give it to one of the Coaches on the morning of the parade.  All of the info is also on the calendar section of the website. Hope to see you all there!!

   Due to an abundance of orders coming through the Student Store, we are not going to be able to have the shirts or sweatshirts by the Homecoming game :(  I apologize for the bad news, yet the bright side is, if you have not yet put an order in or you wanted to add/ change your order, you just got a second chance! 

   In the Handouts section of this website, you can download the order form, fill it out, and turn it in to Coach Mendez as soon as possible.  I will be placing the order on Friday, November 9 (which is one week after the night of Homecoming).  You can turn the money in with your order or you can wait and I will let you know when to do so.

   Again the prices are as follows:

          Shirts: $8

          Sweatshirts: $20

          Embroidery: $5

It would be great to see everyone in "I Love Grizzly Cheer" attire!!

Yay! We finally have a team website!! Make sure you make an effort to get to know this website! This is something you can refer to for pretty much everything you will ever need to know in regards to cheer!  On this site you will find monthly calendars, game schedules, locations of different events, team rosters and numbers, football & basketball cheer lists/words, and even pictures (you can even post some of your favorite cheer pictures!)!!

I will be utilizing this method of informing everyone of "the latest" with the teams because it is so convenient, so please bookmark this page and check in frequently for updates!  If you ever forget this website's address, you can always find it by clicking on the cheer listing on the school's Athletic home page (it sends you directly to our page!).
