CA Yard Dawgs College of Baseball: Yard Dawg Programs

Our Programs combine athletic and academic training. Each is four months long, a workable alternative to a year-long commitment of weekly practices and games. Programs offer flexibility, which student athletes need in order to complement high school and travel ball schedules.
Each program is a series of workouts designed to develop fundamental baseball skills. Workouts prepare players for exposure tournaments frequented by college recruiters and pro scouts. Although baseball prep is core to our program, we blend athletics and academics, a formula unique to CA Yard Dawgs College of Baseball.
Athletics:
Our training emphasizes proper instruction, goal-setting and constant personal improvement. Supervised training promotes good technique, which players execute at exposure tournaments. Regular participation in tournaments are opportunities, but without adequate preparation, players have little chance to show their best.
We believe good practice makes good play, so we load our program with more practices than tournaments. Each is no less than 6 training sessions per program, finishing with one local and one "away" tournament. At the end, players receive a written Individual Player Assessment TM (IPA), so they can track improvement and prepare for the next series.
Academics:
Unique to our program is the "academic workout." Academic Coach Richard Nester hosts an hour of classroom "training", immediately before baseball. Topics such as test-taking, study techniques, SAT prep and understanding personal study styles are covered in these workouts. For details about Richard's credentials, please refer to the "Yard Dawg Coach Associates" tab.
For the college-bound athlete, academics cannot be separated from baseball. Regardless of how talented a player might be, college admission standards must be met before recruiting takes places. Additionally, a player with good grades is an attractive prospect because he is less likely to become academically ineligible year to year. Limited funding means baseball programs carefully distribute and montor athletic scholarships among 30 - 35 players.
