Burrillville Little League Inc.: Regular Season '10 Divisions
Minor Div - Winning Manager send scores to murph15@cox.netMinor Division is the stepping stone for some children to get into the Major Division. There are children of ages 8 years old to 11 years old in this division. Some 8 year olds may be brought into the Minor division to fill rosters. We will take the children who have demonstrated the ability to play at this level.
League rules for the Minor division:
GENERAL RULES (SEE EXCEPTION ADDED 4/15/09 IN HANDOUT SECTION)
1. Rules for this division are in the Little League-Minor Division rulebook. Pitching Option 1 Should be Followed.
2. Games can be played with 8 players.
3. Continuous batting order. Reset at the beginning of each game.
4. All players must play 3 innings in the field. Unlimited substitutions are allowed.
5. Inning ends with 4 run or 3 out rule, last inning has unlimited runs.
6. Home team picks up and returns bases; grooms the pitching mound, around home plate and all bases.
7. No chanting or jeering at opposing players.
8. PITCHERS: Once a pitcher leaves the pitching position that player can not reenter the game as a pitcher but can reenter at any other position.
LEAGUE DIRECTION
1. The Minor Division is a farm division for preparing players for Major League play. Managers and coaches, have the responsibility of instructing your players on the fundamentals of baseball, training all players in various positions, and focusing ~ training rather than winning.
2. PLAYOFFS: All teams will participate in the playoffs The format will be the best two of three. With the team with the best record being home in the first game and away in the second game and home in the third game if needed.
4. UMPIRES: The league will attempt to provide the umpires in the Minor League. In the event that an umpire is not available by 5:30 P.M. the game will begin and each manager, or a designated parent, will umpire.
5. Voting for Trophies: All teams in the Minor League division have the team members vote for "Most Valuable Player" and "Best Sportsmanship". The team manager and coaches will pick the "Most Improved".
Major Division
Major division is from ages 10 through 12 and is highly competitive. The children in this division will learn some advanced skills and are expected to be at every practice and game.
Major League General Rules amended 2008
1. Rules for this division are in the little league-Major Division rulebook, BLL will choose Regulation VI Option 1 Regarding Pitchers. BLL Exceptions as follows:
2. Games can be played with 8 players.
3. Home teams pick up and returns the bases, grooms the pitchers mound and around home plate and all bases.
4. Games begin promptly at 5:30 pm – No Exceptions without prior notification of both teams and the consent of the President.
5. No chanting or jeering at opposing players
6. 10 Run Rule in effect after 4 ½ innings (Examples: Bottom of the 5th score is 12 – 2 Home Team = Game Over. Bottom of the 5th score is 2 – 12 Away Team = Home Team has another at bat. If the score remains over 10 runs for Away team at top of 6th = Away Team wins)*
7. Absolutely No Slashing Allowed – Fake Bunt and then Swing Away.
8. MANDATORY PLAYING TIME: The Burrillville Little League will follow Regulation IV, Section 1 for Major league players, except that 9 defensive outs will be used. Mandates start the next game.
Continuous batting order, reset each game, and unlimited substitutions with all players playing 3 innings per game.
(There will be a 9-player roster during playoffs - no continuous batting order requirement)
9. Voting for Trophies: All teams in the Major League system have the team member’s vote for Most Valuable Player and Sportsmanship. The Team Manager and coaches will pick the Most Improved Player.
Instructional Division - AA
Instructional division is for the children from age 6 and to 9 that require coaching and instruction in the basics of baseball skills. The league rules for Instructional are as follows.
GENERAL RULES
1. Offensive team manager or designated adult pitches to his players.
2. The defensive pitcher stands to the left or right of the mound.
3. 10 defensive players (4 outfielders) will be used.
4. Continuous batting order.
5. Every inning ends with 3 outs or 5 runs.
6. Games can be played with 8 players.
7. No walks.
8. No bunting.
9. No base stealing. (The proper way of sliding should be taught to players)
10. Third strike batter is out. Maximum of eight (8) pitches to a batter with a warning on the seventh (7th) pitch. If the batter does not swing at the eighth (8th) pitch, the batter is out.
11. No standings will be kept.
12. No play-offs.
13. No team trophies.
14. No umpires will be used. (Coaches will be the umpires)
15. When an outfielder throws the ball and it is controlled by an infielder, play concludes. Any player not on base is liable to be put out.
16. In the event of an overthrow, the ball is dead. No runners can advance.
17. Catcher: Must wear a cup (manager must pay strict attention) A very important function of this division is to develop catchers. Please pay special attention to this position. In the Minor League, the catcher must be able to work this position. Train two or more catchers.
18. Home team picks up and returns the bases. Grooms the pitchers mound, around the bases and home plate.
20. No chanting or jeering at the opposing team
LEAGUE DIRECTION - INSTRUCTIONAL
BLL encourages managers and coaches to rotate defensive positions and batting orders on a regular basis, keeping in mind the safety of the player at any given position. The nature of this division is teaching the fundamentals of baseball.
It is the wish of the administration that every player be exposed to as many positions as possible on a regular basis. This will enable each player to reach his/her full potential and enable him/her to advance to a higher level in the future.

Tee Ball Division
Tee Ball is for all children League Age* 5 & 6 years old.
The League rules are as follows.
TEE-BALL DIVISION
GENERAL RULES
1. No scores are kept; no individual stats recorded; no team standings; no play-offs.
2. A team needs 2 or more adults for proper instruction and supervision.
3. GAME TIME: Games Start At 5:30 PM and have a 7:00 PM Curfew
4. SEASON: Approximately the first week of May through the last week of June.
5. LOCATION: Hauser Field – Alternate may be named if necessary
6. Maximum of three (3) games per week..
7. Six-inning games maximum.
8. UNIFORMS: Shirts and hats (keepers).
9. No chanting or jeering at opposing players.
OFFENSE
1. Batting tee must be used.
2. No strikeouts or walks.
3. Continuous batting order.
4. Inning ends when batting order is complete.
5. One adult at the tee, (to demonstrate proper batting technique), a second adult at 1st base and another at 3rd base.
6. No advance on overthrows.
7. Base-runners advance one base while ball is in the infield.
8. Batter and base-runners can advance when ball is hit to the outfield, but play stops when ball is returned to the infield.
DEFENSE
1. Ten players on field, (no catcher, 4 out fielders, player on pitchers mound).
2. ROTATION: Each inning players shift positions, (bench to infield, infield to outfield, outfield to bench; also, continually change each player’s position).
3. Team will have two coaches on the field. One coach will be located behind the short stop, and the other coach will be behind the 2nd baseman. This is for the purpose of correctly positioning the players and instructing the players on how to play each position. (This is the reason for the constant defensive rotations). If there is only one coach available, the best position would be behind the pitcher’s mound.
