2005 saw a change in the coaching staff for both the Junior Kitted and the Junior Flag. On the kitted side an american called Mike Rich joined the staff to help on the defensive side, while Mark Greally coordinated the offense along with Head Coach Paul Mather. The junior flag team saw assitant coach Nik Haywood leave the club and former junior flag player Dominic Gough step into the role of Offensive Coordinator.
2005 Cadet Flag
With the Cadets winning the national championship in 2004 they had a lot to live up to but losing 2 of their star players meant it was going to be a tough journey, but they gained a rookie QB in Mark Taylor who was soon showing at training that he was going to be a great asset to the team and then along came a great little running back in Tom Proctor who's speed and elusive moves gave the cadets that edge.
Unfortunately there wasn't many cadets around the country with teams like the Leicester Eagles struggling to field a team meant that the Bucs only really played Studley Bearcats throught most of the year. This didn't bother the cadets though as they just wanted to play as did Studley, so at every flag tournament the two clubs would arrange to play friendlies against each other for the benefit of the players. Later on in the year a club called the Coventry Jets were formed and they managed to field a cadet team which gave the Bucs a bit more competition.
In July all 3 clubs met up at the National Flag Finals in a Round Robin type tournament. The Bucs easily desposed of the Bearcats beating them 27 - 0, and then in a great game against the Jets they narrowly got beat 12 - 20 with a last minute Touchdown from the Jets giving them the win. The Jets then went on to beat the Bearcats 18 - 6 meaning that they were the 2005 National Champions.
The Cadets kept the up the tradition of producing excellent talent as Rachel Hull made history once again as she was selected to play for the GB Lions cadet team in Gran Canaria for Euroflag 2005.
