Welcome to the Brooklyn Meadows Softball League, sponsored by Marino Photography - danmarinophoto.com. Featuring both Summer and Fall seasons, BMSL has enjoyed a tradition of competitive modified-fast pitch softball since 1991.

The BMSL Sunday Summer league plays a 14 week double header schedule (weather permitting) with playoffs and All-Star game. There are four divisions for all skill levels. All teams planning on joining the league must attend one of the following upcoming meetings. Also, be sure to check sheet. 2011 is our 20th anniversary season. To that end we will be offering "Loyalty Discounts" to teams that have been with us over the years. There will be a sliding scale on the discounts... $o the longer you've been with us, the greater the discount.

If you are interested in participating in a week night men's league in Redhook, please contact Tony. The league is competitive, family, corporate! 
 

The league meetings will be some time in March. Dates TBD.

Storm sweeps Nightmares in two games 7-1 and 7-2 to win “C” league championship. Congratulations to Hector, Johnny and the entire Storm team on a remarkable run that saw them go a perfect 14-0 in the regular season and 8-0 in the playoffs. It is the first time a team has had an undefeated season in BMSL league history.

Syndicate sweeps Nightmares to capture “D” league title. Congratulations to Jason and all the members of Syndicate on capturing the “D” league championship in your first year in the BMSL.

I would like to thank all managers and players on being a part of our entire spring/summer and fall leagues. I hope everyone enjoyed your season of softball. I would like to wish you the very best of holidays and health to you and your families. We had a great year together with only one week of rain. I enjoyed my relationships with all the managers for their professionalism, patience and how their teams conducted themselves on the field. I am looking forward to seeing all the new and returning teams next spring for our 20^th anniversary season. Thanks for your dedication.

Congratulations to Conrad, Larry and the rest of the members of the Brooklyn Bombers on capturing another league championship.

Nightmares win two over Braveheart: In game two Anthony Crocca pitches first ever perfect game in BMSL playoff history as well as hitting a two run homer to win the game 2-0.

Storm defeats Ruckus in two: After pulling out a close game one 5-3 victory, Storm won game two in a walk 25-7. Ruckus pulled out all the stops and tried an onside kick, but the attempt was unsuccessful.

NY Largest and Linea battled to the bitter end in a competitive three game set with NYL coming out on top. After dropping game one 7-0, Linea fought back in the bottom of the seventh in game two to tie the game at 8-8. They plate the winning run in the bottom of the eighth to win 9-8. In game three Linea would again wait until the top of the seventh to get four runs to tie the game 4-4. But it was NYL who would score the game winner in the bottom of the frame for the 5-4 win.

Cardinals & Sore Losers battle for three with Cardinals coming out on top. Sore Losers win game one 4-3. In game two the Cardinals would explode for 9 runs in the third inning. Sore Losers battled back but come up short at 10-9. In game three, trailing by two runs in the bottom of the seventh with two on, Nick Casstel hits a 3-run walk off HR for the Cardinals 6-5 win.

The schedule for this weekend 10/4/09 will follow the schedule for last week.

The deadline for rosters, photo ID's and payments has also been extended to 10/4. If you are not squared away after this weekend... You will not be on the schedule for week 5!!!

Just a few bits of info. that you will need for the 2009 BMSL Fall Softball Season...

1) All Rosters and Player Photos are due by 10/4/09 (wk4). As of Monday 10/5 rosters are final!

2) All league fee balances are due by 10/4/09 as well... Any team not paid in full by Saturday 10/10/09 will not be scheduled for games in week 5 (10/11) or beyond until the full balance is paid!

3) The season is a seven week season with no make-up dates. If there are rain outs, they will not be made up. The first week of the playoffs begin on Sunday 11/1/09. The playoff format is as follows;

-Top six teams in each division make the playoffs-

-1st and 2nd place get a bye in round 1-

-(First Round) 3 plays 6, 4 plays 5-

-Beyond first round highest seed plays lowest seed-

-Higher seed (team with better record) is home team-

-Higher seed is home for Games 1 and 3 of the series-

-Higher seed chooses fields (preferred location)-

-Each best of three playoff series has an 8:30 start time- 

-Each best of three series is to be played on same day-

Going into game three neither team seemed willing to bend. So for five innings these two titans played to a scoreless tie. However, in the sixth NY Largest would open the scoring and not stop. Unable to answer, Sports Page would eventually fall to the “C” Champions 7-0. NY Largest was led by the superb pitching of Jimmy Bush and Papo. Congratulations to Javie & Ivan of NYL in capturing the 2009 “C” League Championship. Their second in a row!

In Game one Arsenal exploded for 7 runs in the first inning, leading to their 12-1 victory. In a similar fashion in game two, Arsenal scored 5 runs in the first inning. They would go on from there to the 9-6 victory, despite a five run sixth inning rally by Team Collazzo. Congratulations to Herman and Mario of Arsenal for capturing the “D” league Championship.

The 2009 All-Star Game will be held on Sunday July 26th. The annual event will be held at Six Diamonds (Dreier Offerman Park) Field #6 at 1:00pm.

The league playoffs begin on August 2nd. There will be four rounds, each round being a best two our three format. The games for the playoffs begin at 9:00am (no exceptions) and all three games to be played on the same day (if neccessary).

Hello captains, just a reminder; the 2009 softball registration meetings are just around the corner for the BMSL summer season. All teams are welcome to attend the meetings throughout this March. The 09' season will begin on Sunday April 5th. Among other changes that will take place this season, player photo ID will be required for all players. During the final meeting we will hold our annual lottery event. At that time the league’s divisions will be selected. There will also be a vote on bunting. Any other league issues will also be addressed at that time. It is required that every team have AT LEAST ONE representative present to vote on any topics and get any info. That is available.

Playing in 30 degree temperatures, the Tribe put up five runs in the seventh inning of game two to take a 9 – 4 win and tie the series at one apiece. In game three the Tribe took an 8-5 lead into the bottom of the seventh where the Phantoms mounted a late game charge. After scoring two runs in the frame, the Phantoms loaded the bases with two out. So there it was title on the line, but a hard line drive was handled by Angle (MVP) to secure the game and the championship. Congratulations to the Dottey Brothers and the rest of the Tribe crew. Sorry About the Delay…

The Final meeting for the Fall League is this Thursday (9/4) at the Brooklyn Indoor Sports Complex (formerly John Franco's), located at 800 3rd Ave. in Brooklyn at 7:00pm. This meeting is manditory for any team not yet registered or paid. Along with registration, league rules will be discussed as well as any voting that needs to be done. The league will begin on Sunday, September 7th.

Like Labor Day the Summer Season has come and gone and new Champions have been crowned. In the "C" League Los Muchachos needed three games to get past New York's Largest to claim the title. Congratulations to Edgar and Johnny on a successful championship run.

In the "D" League Carnage had a two game sweep over The Honey Deo's to claim the "D" title. Congratulations to Craig and Adam on a great season.

Rounders vs Sick Fish: Game one was a one sided affair as Chris D. pitched a one hitter and held the Fish to three baserunners (2 errors) total in a 13-0, 7 inning Rounders. Game two was a much closer contest. Down 8-7 in the bottom of the seventh Sick Fish rallied to load the bases with two out, but a clutch effort by Joey S. (pitcher) ended the inning and Rounders advanced to round two.

Tribe vs Ruckus: Ruckus upsets the Tribe in three games. The third and decisive game went to the ninth inning.

Los Muchachos vs Canarsie Indians: Tied at 0-0 in the seventh inning of game one, Los Muchachos puts up a three spot. In the bottom of the inning the Indians scored two and loaded the bases before making the final out, coming up short at 3-2.

Thunder vs Linea: Thunder wins two close games over Linea. The first game took an extra inning as Thunder scores a walk off run in the bottom of the eighth. Game two was another close affair with Thunder winning 6-4.

Rude Boyz vs Instant Classic: These two teams played a classic game in game one of the series. The game took 14 innings to complete with the Rude Boyz getting two in the top of the 14th to take game one. Undaunted, Instant Classic would show their metal as they went on to win the next two games by scores of 8-5 and 5-1.

The Summer Season Playoff Season is winding down, but there is more softball to be played. The BMSL Fall season is around the corner. The meetings for the fall league will be held at the Brooklyn Indoor Sports Complex (800 3rd Ave.) at 7:30pm. The first three meetings are as follows:

   Managers this is just a quick reminder regarding the All-Star Game. It will be played on Sunday 7/27 at Six Diamonds Field #6 at 1:30. The break down will be as follows, the "C" East and "D" North will play as one team and "C" West and "D" South will play as their opponent. Captains please select two players from your team to participate in the game. Please select people who are going to attend. It's kind of pointless to elect a guy because he deserves it, only to have him not show up.

   Also please contact Tony Ferrazzo (917-721-1114) and let him know how many players and spectators you will be bringing to the game. There will be food and raffles. The playoffs start the first week of August. Good Luck and enjoy the All-Star game.

We are saddened to announce the passing of longtime league member and friend Francisco Castill. Frank a long time pitcher for Bad News will be missed. Frank’s passing came on Monday at age 50, after a lengthy battle with cancer. An asset to the league and the community, Frank was an avid player and a fan of all sports. On behalf of Tony, the league and myself, I would like to pass on our deepest condolences to his son Nicholas (Bad News Manager) and the entire Castill family.

It has been brought to my attention (and rightfully so) that teams have not played enough divisional games. At the meeting before the season, I assured teams that there would be a sufficient amount of divisional play. To this point in the season that has not been the case. This is due in large part to the fact that teams don’t want to play out of their preferred time slot and away from their preferred fields, it has been difficult to say the least to accomplish the goal of divisional play. Starting next week (6/8/08) and throughout the remainder of the season, I will be emphasizing divisional play for those teams that have not played a minimum of 60 – 65% of division games. This means that team will have to be more flexible in regards to where and when they play. But in order to preserve the integrity of the league this is a necessary step.

Finally I personally think that the idea of a five week at a time of even full schedule should be revisited for next season. It would alleviate much of this problem. Please remember that when you list the times and fields that you prefer, it is not a guarantee. It is merely a guideline. I make my best effort to accommodate teams on a weekly basis, but there must be balance in the schedule.

The league is scheduled to have an off day on Memorial Day weekend (5/25). However, if you would like to play please contact either Tony or Jake to be added to the make-up schedule. If you have had a bye or missed games for any reason, you are strongly urged to use this opportunity to play make-up games.

There has been some confusion with the HE and DH rules in the early part of the season. So in an effort to clear this matter up we would like to offer the following explainations.

The EH (Extra Hitter) CANNOT enter the field to play a position. The only exception to this rule is in the event of as injury. In the event of an injury and there are no possible replacements available the EH will be permitted to replace the injured player. The injured player will be then removed from the line-up and not be allowed to play. There are no automatic outs in this example. The line-up will adjust and play will continue with no penalty to the team. The EH must be in the line-up at the start of the game and CANNOT be added after the first pitch of the game.

THE DH (Designated Hitter) is a batter that hits for any position player (Pitcher,SS, CF etc...) who is playing defense in the field but not hitting. The DH must be declared at the begining for the game and CANNOT be added after that point.

The Brooklyn Meadows Weeknight mens modified softball league is currently accepting team registrations.
