4/24/09 - Enter the NSTEP Slogan Contest!

Dear Little League Volunteers,
Oral Health America's National Spit Tobacco Education Program (NSTEP) and Little League International are pleased to announce the 2009 NSTEP Slogan Contest on the health consequences of using spit tobacco.
In 10 words or less, Little Leaguers are asked to create an original slogan that effectively describes the hazards of spit tobacco use. All current Little League Baseball and Softball players age 14 and under are eligible. All entries must be received by July 3, 2009.
The National Spit Tobacco Education Program will award the winner with a paid trip for two for one night, including airfare, hotel accommodations and ground transportation to the Little League Baseball World Series in Williamsport, Pa. (Please note: The World Series begins August 21, 2009 and concludes August 30, 2009. The winner must be able to travel during this period.)
The winner will receive a prize valued up to $500 and the winner's Little League will receive $500 from the National Spit Tobacco Education Program.
For the official 2009 Slogan Contest rules and entry form,
Oral Health Americas National Spit Tobacco Education Program (NSTEP) was founded in 1994 as an effort to educate the baseball family and the American public about the dangers of smokeless or spit tobacco, and break the long-standing link between this potentially deadly drug and Americas pastime. Each year, 10 to 16 million Americans put their health at risk by using smokeless tobacco products.
The National Spit Tobacco Education Programs mission is to prevent people, especially children and young adults, from starting to use spit tobacco, and to help all users quit.

Nominate a Little Leage Volunteer!

The Howard and Gail Paster Little League Urban Initiative Volunteer of the Year Award was created to recognize the vital adult volunteer service being performed by thousands of dedicated people involved with a Little League program participating in the Urban Initiative.

Every Urban Initiative program has individuals who should be recognized for their commitment, dedication, and participation in the Little League program. By nominating an individual from your Urban Initiative league you help demonstrate the benefits and values of volunteerism, family and sportsmanship. To recognize an individual, click here to access and print the nomination form.

June 1st is the deadline to submit your nomination for the 2009 Little League Urban Initiative Volunteer of the Year award. Please send your completed nomination forms directly to Little League International in Williamsport, Pennsylvania for your nominee to be considered for national recognition.

The National recipient for this award and their guest will be the guests of Little League International at the 2009 Little League Baseball World Series and will be provided with round-trip transportation and hotel accommodations. The National recipient will be honored at the annual World Series Awards Breakfast and during pre-game ceremonies.

If you have any questions regarding the awards please contact
dervin@littleleague.org.

Thank you in advance for your support of this award and for taking advantage of this wonderful opportunity to recognize a deserving individual and their contributions to the Little League Urban Initiative.

Click here for a nomination form.  The deadline for nominations is June 1.
