Bethesda Roadrunners: My Site News: A perfect weekend for Birdwatching

A perfect weekend for Birdwatching
Perfect weather and two good opponents -- this was a good weekend for Birdwatching! Saturday the Roadrunners traveled to McLean to take on a tough Mclean team. Not only was Mclean up for the challenge, the drought created a dustbowl on an already bumpy field and a challenge for both teams. Final score: RRs 2, McLean 0.

Sunday was showdown with FCH Premier. Facing the prospect of a closed field and a rescheduled game (not to mention a cheap unearned FT), in the true spirit of the youth game both teams marshalled their goodwill and resources to relocate to a playable field and a ref. The Roadrunner ended up playing host to the top flight FCH Premier team at the nice Muldoon fields. After being denied in the last meeting between these teams in Olney, the Roadrunners came on a mission.

FCH Premier proved early on this game was not going to be easy. About 5 minutes in FCH scored on a well executed set play. The Roadrunners found itself down a goal at halftime. The second half was a different story. After a flurry of missed opportunities, the Roadrunners came back to even things up with about 15 minutes to play on a spectacular volley at the end of a long cross. After a beautiful point blank save by the Roadrunner keeper, the RRs stepped on the gas for the rest of the game, scoring the winning goal in the the final minutes of the game. Mission accomplished.

As has been the case this season, the goals were well distributed among different players on Saturday and Sunday.

With one half of the fall 2005 NCSL season completed, the RRs is in control of its own destiny in the league standings, and has the remaining five games scheduled to be played at the MD SoccerPlex. Next up: ASC Milan.
