Bethesda Roadrunners: My Site News: RRs knocks off #1 Freestate Titans

RRs knocks off #1 Freestate Titans
Since the MD State Cup semi-final loss to Freestate on PKs (game ended 1-1) in June, the RRs have looked forward to another game against the new top dog in MD. Not only did Freestate win MD State Cup and NCSL U13 last season, but the well-coached Titans also represented Maryland during Regional in July, earning a semi-final honor.

On this bright September Sunday the RRs came to Muldoons to prove a few points, most importantly to the team itself, and bolster its confidence. They did not disappoint. For the Roadrunners the win over the Titans was nice, but the flow and execution of the game was more satisfying than the narrow 1-0 final score.

From the first whistle and for the entire 70 minute game the Roadrunners played solid soccer, putting lots of pressure the Freestate defense and their excellent goalie. Helped by disciplined defense and spectacular saves, Freestate stayed in the game until the end. However, on this day the Titans found it difficult to navigate the Roadrunner mid-field/defense and did not get any good scoring opportunities. While creating lots of scoring chances, the weak point of the RR game on Sunday was finishing. But, one nice goal late in the 1st half proved to be enough.

Last week ended with a scoreless tie between Inter and the Roadrunners. This Saturday, the RRs played another inter club derby, this time against Ajax. This week the Roadrunners would leave no doubt, winning 5-1.
