Welcome to the Bristol Gladiator Web site
This is our 20th season of youth wrestling at The Bristol Boys & Girls Club. The program was started in 1988 by a group of local high school coaches who saw a need for a developmental program for the local schools. In 1999 the program changed their name to the Gladiators and grew by numbers and became a Connecticut top 5 youth team year after year. Many of the most successful local wrestlers from Bristol and its surrounding towns were members of this program. As a Gladiator we are known for our sportsmanship and character, physical, mental and technical prepararation, ability to maintain focus, conditioning and appearance, continued tradition of having one of the best programs in the state and HAVING FUN WRESTLING.
We have three teams that compete on a state and regional level. During the winter season we run two teams, Sr. Gladiators (5th-8th grade) and Jr. Gladiators (PreK-4th grade). From March to June we run the Gladiator Freestyle Club (Olymic style wrestling) for more experienced youth and high school wrestlers.
Coaches for the Gladiator Wrestling Programs have always consisted of volunteers who have a love for the sport of wrestling and an affinity for working with youth. The main goals of the coaches have always been, creating a winning program, developing in the members of the team alove for the sport of wrestling and, more importantly, developing inthe wrestlers a sense of character and integrity that they can carry through life with them beyond their competitive athletic years.
Gladiators Wrestling is coordinated mainly by coaches DAVE THOMPSON and PHIL SOUCY.
DAVE THOMPSON- 4years high school wrestler/football at Bristol Eastern HS,2year wrestler at Southern CT State University,5year varsity/Jr. varsity football and wrestling coach at Bristol Eastern HS, 9years head Sr. Gladiator coach.
PHIL SOUCY- 4year high school wrestler/soccer at Bristol Eastern HS,15years as a CT HS wrestling official,4year Jr. Gladiator coach.
SR. GLADIATOR ASSISTANTS- CHRIS COTE, ROB RIGNEY,PAUL CHAPMAN and CRAIG WILSON
JR. GLADIATOR ASSISTANTS- MIKE SASSU,BRIAN DEAL, PETER SASSU and RICH MARINO
FREESTYLE COACHES- GARY ALFORD and ANTHONY HELM
Parents and families have always played a large role in the Gladiator Wrestling Programs. They travel with the team, volunteer at meets and especially at the tournaments, and in general offer support to their children and all the team members. Without their volunteerism Gladiator Wrestling would not be as succrssful as it is.
Being a member of one of the Gladiator Wrestling Teams is an honor. We have a great reputation and a long history of being a competitive team with great sportsmanship and character. We are respected for our aggressive style of wrestling while maintaining control and demonstrating good sportsmanship at all times.

A dual meet tournament is an exciting format where our team will compete against another team to see who advances to the finals. There is a guaranteed 5 matches. In this type of tournament we cannot take everyone so there will be wrestle offs to determines who will go. I would like to take 2 wrestlers per wieght class. More info. to follow.
