Collection for Passback Program at Freestate Capitol Cup
With the support of Freestate Soccer Alliance and Elite Tournaments, Dragons player Joey Gorirossi will be collecting new and used soccer equipment to donate to the Passback Program. The collection will take place during the Freestate Capital Cup at several fields on March 21-22 and March 28-29. Or you can contact Joey directly at jwgori1@cs.com to arrange to donate.
The Passback Program accepts donations of new or used soccer equipment, including cleats, shin guards, soccer balls, goal keeper gloves or jerseys, uniforms, soccer socks, and any other soccer equipment. Passback then distributes the donated items to soccer programs for disadvantaged youth.
This is a great way to give back to the sport we love!

US Club Soccer Regionals
The Freestate Dragons traveled to New Jersey for the US Club Soccer Regional Tournament and had a successful tourney, finishing with 2 wins and 1 loss and in 2nd place in their group, just one point shy of moving on to the semi-finals.
Joey Gorirossi and Nick Staufenberger tallied goals for the Dragons, and Max Allegro and Gorirossi each earned an assist. Patrick Thornton, Kevin Fitch, Mark Miller, Rafiq Gharbi, Jason Carcamo, Ryan Leslie, and Dan Artin also contributed outstanding play on the attack and in the midfield. Defenders Jared Fohs, Matt Michael, William Fisher, and Mike Kane exhibited tough defensive play throughout the tournament, while guest goal keeper Ben Frazier played great, making several key saves.

Dragons Defeat MSC Revolution
The Dragons earned a 1-0 victory over the previously undefeated MSC Revolution to close out the NCSL D1 season. James Rice scored the game winning goal, heading in a fantastic service from Jared Fohs. Joey Gorirossi, Kevin Fitch, Patrick Thornton, Jason Carcamo, Nick Staufenberger, Dan Artin, Nick Mattox, and Alex Goyette were also strong on the attack and in the midfield throughout the match.
Keeper Luke Kell made several superb saves to earn the shut-out. William Fisher, Mike Kane, Matt Michael, and Fohs also made key defensive plays to hold MSC scoreless.

Dragons Play to Draw vs MCLN Thunder
The U16 Freestate Dragons tied the MCLN Thunder 1-1 in a tough fought NCSL match. Strong midfield and defensive play by both teams led to a 0-0 tie at the half. In the second half, the Thunder scored first on a break away. Just minutes later, Nick Staufenberger was fouled in the opponents' box. Jason Carcamo netted the resulting penalty kick to tie up the score.
The Dragons dominated the better part of the match with terrific passing combinations. Outside midfielders James Rice, Nick Mattox, Cedrick Burgess, Alex Goyette, and Staufenberger made strong crosses into the box, finding attackers Patrick Thornton, Joey Gorirossi, Mark Miller, and Kevin Fitch, who fired strong shots that were thwarted by tough play from the Thunder's keeper and defenders. Dan Artin and Carcamo played strong in the defensive center midfield positions, helping on the transition from defense to offense.
Defenders Jared Fohs, Matt Michael, William Fisher, and Mike Kane combined to stop several Thunder attacks. Goal keeper Luke Kell was tremendous in the net, making several tough saves to earn the tie for the Dragons.

Dragons defeat ABGC Red Devils
The Freestate Dragons defeated the ABGC Red Devils 4-2 in an exciting match. The Dragons took an early 1-0 lead when a great passing combination resulted in James Rice firing a strong pass to Patrick Thornton, who tallied the goal. Still dominating early in the second half, the Dragons increased their lead when Matt Cross received the ball at the offensive endline and passed it back to Nick Staufenberger, who hit a hard strike to put the Dragons ahead 2-0.
But it was the final 10 minutes of the game that had spectators on the edge of their seats. The Red Devils pressed hard on the attack and scored two goals with under 10 minutes left to play to knot the score at 2-2. The Dragons regrouped and went on a late game scoring spree of their own. Jared Fohs headed in what would prove to be the game winner off of a well-placed corner kick from Staufenberger. With under 3 minutes left to play, the Dragons packed in the defense to hold onto the lead. In the final minute, a clearance from the Dragons defense found Staufenberger on the right mid, who sent a pass to Thornton at the 50 yard line. Thornton beat his mark and netted a strong shot to put the game away at 4-2.
Center midfielders Joey Gorirossi, Jason Carcamo, and Dan Artin were pivotal, controlling the pace of the game and serving well-placed passes to the attackers. Strikers Kevin Fitch and Mark Miller were strong on the attack, while Nick Mattox, Alex Goyette, and Cedrick Burgess, made key plays from the outside midfield positions.
Luke Kell was again tremendous in goal, making diving saves to earn the win. Defenders Mike Kane, Matt Michael, William Fisher, and Fohs were rock solid in the back, holding the Red Devils to half the number of shots on goals as the Dragons had in the match.

Dragons Drop Two Nail Biters in Weekend NCSL Action
The Dragons fell 2-1 to the VIST PAC 91 Blue on Saturday and then again lost a close and hard fought match 2-1 on Sunday to DCST Blue Thunder. In Saturday's match, a passing combination developed from the back and resulted in Jason Carcamo feeding the ball from the midfield to striker Kevin Fitch. Fitch sent a great pass to Patrick Thornton, who netted the goal. On Sunday, Jared Fohs fed the ball to Mark Miller, who fired a strong shot that hit the cross bar. Joey Gorirossi followed Miller's shot and tallied the goal for the Dragons. Daniel Artin, James Rice, Nick Staufenberger, Matt Cross, Cedrick Burgess, and Nick Mattox also played strong in the midfield and on the attack in both matches. Luke Kell was awesome between the pipes both days, supported by excellent defense from Mike Kane, Matt Michael, William Fisher, Alex Goyette, and Fohs.

Dragons Earn Win and Tie in League Play
The Dragons played to a 0-0 tie against the MSC Scorpions on Saturday and a 1-0 win over the Bethesda Ajax on Sunday in NCSL Division 1 weekend action.
In the victory over Bethesda, James Rice crossed the ball in to Kevin Fitch, whose shot was deflected by the keeper. Nick Staufenberger was positioned perfectly to collect the deflection and fire off a great shot to score the winning goal.
Joey Gorirossi, Jason Carcamo, Dan Artin, Mark Miller, and Fitch were key in both matches, anchoring the team in the middle and transitioning the team from defense to offense, while Jared Fohs, Nick Mattox, Cedrick Burgess, Rice, and Staufenberger played strong from the outside midfield positions. Strikers Patrick Thornton, Matt Cross, and Jean Toussaint also put constant pressure on the opponents' defense on the attack.
Keeper Luke Kell was outstanding in both games, coming up with 11 saves and 2 shut-outs. He was supported by fantastic play from Dragons defenders William Fisher, Matt Michael, Mike Kane, and Alex Goyette.

Freestate Dragons Advance to Quarterfinals of State Cup
The Dragons defeated Chesapeake Soccer Club United to advance to the quarterfinals of Maryland State Cup in an exciting match that came down to penalty kicks. In regulation play, Nick Staufenberger netted an expertly placed shot in the first half to put the Dragons up 1-0, but Chesapeake answered back early in the second half with a fine shot to tie the score. Center midfielders Joey Gorirossi, Jason Carcamo, Dan Artin, and Kevin Fitch controlled the game in the middle, while outside mids James Rice, Nick Mattox, and Staufenberger contributed excellent passing and ball handling up the sidelines. Strikers Patrick Thornton, Mark Miller, Matt Cross, and Cedrick Burgess were strong on the attack. Jared Fohs had a tremendous game as keeper, supported by superb defense from Mike Kane, William Fisher, and Matt Michael.
With regulation play ending in a 1-1 draw, the match went to two 15-minute periods of overtime play. Chesapeake scored early in the second overtime period to go up 2-1, but the Dragons dug down deep, pressing hard on the attack in the final minutes. With under 5 minutes remaining, Matt Michael scored the tying goal off of a great service from Nick Staufenberger, knotting the score at 2-2 and sending the game into a penalty kick shoot-out.
The PK shoot-out came down to the 7th kicker for each team and resulted in a 5-4 win on PKs for the Dragons. Netting penalty kicks were Mike Kane, Jason Carcamo, Joey Gorirossi, Matt Michael, and Patrick Thornton. Keeper Jared Fohs was incredible in the net saving two of Chesapeake’s penalty kicks, while a third Chesapeake PK hit the cross bar.

Freestate Dragons Win 4-0 to Advance to NCSL Division 1
The U16 Freestate Dragons advanced to NCSL Division 1, defeating the SYC Gladiators 4-0 to earn 2nd place in Division 2 for the Fall 2007 NCSL season with a 5-2-2 record. From the opening kick-off, the Dragons were on fire and in control of the match . . . just minutes into the game, Jared Fohs threw the ball inbounds from the right sideline into the box where James Rice touched it to Matt Cross, who tallied the opening score. Nick Staufenberger netted the second goal off of a great pass from Rice. In the second half, Rice placed a solid free kick to the far post, which Cross headed in to go up 3-0. Mark Miller scored the Dragons final goal off of a nice pass from Jean Toussaint to seal the 4-0 victory. Center midfielders Joey Gorirossi and Kevin Fitch controlled the pace of the game and led the team in transitioning from defense to offense with superb passing. Nick Mattox, Delonte Smith, and Patrick Thornton also played strong on the attack from the outside midfield and striker positions.
Keeper Sean Killion was perfect in the net with 7 saves for his third shut out of the NCSL season. Mike Kane, Matt Michael, William Fisher, Cedrick Burgess, and Fohs were tremendous on defense throughout the match. Alex Goyette and Dan Artin were out with injuries, but contributed fine play throughout the season to help the team earn 2nd place. Congratulations also to Coach Chris Johnson on leading the Dragons to Division 1 in his first season at the helm!

Dragons Tie ALEX Titans
The Dragons tied the ALEX Titans 2-2 in an exciting match in which both teams fought hard. In the first half, James Rice sent a great pass to Patrick Thornton, who netted the Dragons first goal. Just minutes later Joey Gorirossi sent a free kick to Mark Miller who passed the ball into the box to Matt Michael . . . Michael tallied the Dragons second goal to give the Dragons a 2-1 lead at the half. But the Titans came out strong in the second half and quickly knotted the score at 2-2. Keeper Sean Killion was tough in the net, earning 9 saves, with solid defensive support from Mike Kane, Jared Fohs, William Fisher, Alex Goyette, Cedrick Burgess, and Michael. Nick Staufenberger, Kevin Fitch, Matt Cross, Nick Mattox, Delonte Smith, Jean Toussaint, and Dan Artin each turned in a good performance in the midfield and on the attack.

Dragons Win Both Games in Double-Header Weekend
On Saturday, the Dragons defeated a very tough DCST Blue Thunder team 1-0 in a nail biter. The two evenly matched squads played to an 0-0 draw until Patrick Thornton netted a goal for the Dragons in the 71st minute of the game off a beautiful pass from Matt Cross. In Sunday's match against the MCLN MPS Thunder, the Dragons again won 1-0. Kevin Fitch was tackled from behind just outside the box midway through the second half to earn a free kick for the Dragons. Cross netted the resulting free kick to score the winning goal. Midfielders Joey Gorirossi, Dan Artin, Nick Staufenberger, James Rice, Delonte Smith, Nick Mattox, and Fitch played solid in the midfield and distributed the ball well on offense in both matches, while strikers Mark Miller and Jean Toussaint put constant pressure on the opposing keepers on the attack. Keeper Sean Killion had an outstanding weekend, earning two shut-outs. He was supported by the superb defensive efforts of Matt Michael, Jared Fohs, Alex Goyette, William Fisher, and Mike Kane.

Dragons Tie BAC Bombers
The Dragons played to a 1-1 draw against the BAC Bombers with goals for both teams coming early in the second half. Jean Toussaint netted the Dragons goal off of a missed clearance from the Bombers defense to take the lead, but the Bombers answered right back with a well-placed shot of their own. Midfielders Joey Gorirossi, Kevin Fitch, Nick Staufenberger, Dan Artin, James Rice, Delonte Smith, and Nick Mattox teamed up for some extraordinary passing combinations to move the ball into the attacking third. Strikers Mark Miller, Matt Cross, Patrick Thornton, and Toussaint put continual second half pressure on the Bombers' keeper, taking several good shots on goal. Keeper Sean Killion had a strong game in the net, supported by tough defensive play from Jared Fohs, Mike Kane, Matt Michael, Cedrick Burgess, Alex Goyette, and William Fisher.

Dragons Defeat Stafford Revolution
In the 2nd week of NCSL action, the Dragons defeated the Stafford Revolution 4-2. The Dragons got off to a slow start in the early Sunday morning match, leading to two quick shots on goal by Stafford and two great saves by Dragons keeper Sean Killion. Midway through the half, the Dragons hit their stride and began to dominate but couldn't convert on several good opportunities, leaving the game knotted 0-0 at the half.
A fiery Dragons team emerged in the second half, starting off with an early goal when Cedrick Burgess placed a free kick to James Rice. Rice passed it off to Jared Fohs, who netted the goal. The second goal came when Matt Cross followed a strong Dragons shot that was misplayed by the Stafford keeper. Cross gained possession and passed back to Kevin Fitch, who placed a fine shot into the back of the net. Stafford then narrowed the Dragons lead to 2-1, scoring off of a free kick. Minutes later the Dragons answered back when Joey Gorirossi fired a hard hit shot from about the 30-yard line that hit the cross bar. Mark Miller grabbed the rebound off the bar and scored to give the Dragons a 3-1 edge. The tough Stafford team did not give up and scored on a breakaway to again cut the Dragons lead to 3-2. In the final minutes of the match, Fohs put a free kick into the box. Miller got off a shot that was deflected, collected his own rebound, and tallied his second goal of the match. Daniel Artin, Nick Staufenberger, Delonte Smith, Patrick Thornton, Nick Mattox, and Jean Toussaint also played strong on the attack. Matt Michael, Alex Goyette, William Fisher, and Mike Kane turned in outstanding defensive play, with keeper Killion playing sharp in the net throught the game and earning several saves.

Dragons Open Fall 2007 NCSL Season with a Win!
The Freestate Dragons defeated the Potomac Cougars 2-1 in the opening NCSL game of the Fall 2007 season. The Dragons scored in the first half when James Rice sent a perfect corner kick into the box and Jared Fohs headed it in for the score. The Cougars tied it up in the second half, but the Dragons answered back. The Dragons second goal involved a superb passing combination from Nick Staufenberger to Mark Miller to Jean Toussaint, who powered a strong left-footed shot past the keeper for the winning goal. Joey Gorirossi, Dan Artin, Kevin Fitch, Nick Mattox, Patrick Thornton, and Delonte Smith also turned in great passing and ball handling on the attack. Defenders Matt Michael, Cedrick Burgess, Mike Kane, William Fisher, Alex Goyette, and Fohs thwarted several strong Cougars attacks, while Keeper Sean Killion played a solid game, earning 7 saves.
Dragons Reach Finals of OBGC Capital Cup
In the Dragons first tournament with Coach Chris Johnson as our coach and with our five newest Dragons players on the pitch, the team had a very strong weekend of soccer, defeating the Reston Rovers 2-1, the Olney Titans 4-0, and Calverton Spartans 2-0 and tying the SYA Copperheads 2-2 in the regular rounds of the OBGC Capital Cup to advance to the finals. Strikers Matt Cross and Mark Miller led the Dragons attack, with Cross scoring five goals and Miller tallying two. Delonte Smith, James Rice, and Dan Artin each netted one goal. Joey Gorirossi earned three assists, while Kevin Fitch, Nick Mattox, Nick Staufenberger, Rice, and Miller each contributed an assist. Patrick Thornton and Jean Toussaint also played strong on the attack and in the midfield. Keeper Sean Killion earned two shut-outs, supported by outstanding defense throughout the tournament from Jared Fohs, Matt Michael, Mike Kane, William Fisher, Alex Goyette, and Cedrick Burgess. The Dragons faced a tough Calverton team in the finals and lost a close and hard fought match 2-1. Rice scored for the Dragons, bending a perfect free kick into the net.

Dragons Finish Spring 2007 Season with a Hard Fought Match
The Dragons ended the Spring season with a tough 3-2 loss to first place FCH Premier Blue, giving the Dragons a 4-3-2 record for the season and 4th place in Division 2 of NCSL. Both teams played a strong first half to a 0-0 draw. At half time, the skies opened up with torrential rains soaking the field, the players, and the fans. But the second half proved to be an exciting one! The Dragons opened the scoring early in the half when Matt Michael crossed a ball into the box, connecting with Matt Cross, who netted a precisely placed shot to take the lead. About midway through the half, there was a questionable foul called in the box against the Dragons keeper, resulting in a PK and in FCH tying up the score at 1-1. While FCH was still celebrating, Cross didn't miss a beat and netted a 50 yard shot on the kick off as soon as the referee's whistle blew to start play, regaining the lead for the Dragons at 2-1. FCH soon answered with another goal of their own, yet again tying up the match. Keeper Sean Killion and defenders Jared Fohs, William Fisher, Cedrick Burgess, Mike Kane, and Michael turned in great play throughout the game, but despite their tough defense, FCH was able to net a game-winner on a solid shot in the final minutes. Joey Gorirossi, Delonte Smith, Mark Miller, Kevin Fitch, James Rice, and Ramu Davis were superb on the attack throughout the game, with many narrowly missed opportunities and beautiful ball handling and passing combinations.
Dragons Come Back to Tie ARL Legend
In an exciting match with the ARL Legend, the Dragons took an early lead on a corner kick. James Rice sent a perfect kick into the box, and Matt Cross headed it in for a 1-0 lead. The Dragons continued to dominate play for the remainder of the half, but got off to a slow start in the second half, allowing two Legend goals in the first 10 minutes of the half. The Dragons regrouped and played the rest of the match on fire, with precision defense from Mike Kane, William Fisher, Jared Fohs, Alex Goyette, and Cedrick Burgess, and expert goal keeping from Sean Killion. The midfielders and striker combined for some phenonimal passing combinations on the attack, resulting in shots that missed by inches, hit the post, or were deflected by fine play from the Legend keeper. The Dragons netted a score with about 15 minutes left to play on a passing combination that started from the back and ended with Ramu Davis finding Matt Michael open on the right wing, who drilled the ball into the goal to tie the game at 2-2. In the final minutes of the match, Mark Miller, Joey Gorirossi, Kevin Fitch, Delonte Smith, Cross, Rice, Davis, Michael, and Burgess put constant pressure on the Legend keeper, with fine ball handling and passing and narrowly missed opportunities to go ahead. Nadji Grizzle also contributed tough midfield play in the first half.
Dragons Defeat DSC Panthers
The Dragons played an excellent match against the DSC Panthers to earn a 2-0 win. Both teams fought hard in the first half to a 0-0 draw at halftime. But the Dragons came out on fire in the second half with great passing combinations in the midfield that led to the two scores. On the first goal, Joey Gorirossi sent a well-timed pass to wide to James Rice on the left wing. Rice sent the ball to striker Mark Miller inside the 18, who headed it down to Ramu Davis' feet. Davis one-timed a perfect shot past the keeper to take the lead. The second goal started with right midfielder Matt Michael sending a beautiful cross to Davis in the middle, who sent a pass to Kevin Fitch. Fitch touched the ball outside to Rice, who netted the second goal with a fine shot to seal the victory. Delonte Smith, Matt Cross, Kevin Faust, Tom Popp, and Nadji Grizzle also added excellent ball handling and passing to the attack. Keeper Sean Killion led the defense with 10 superb saves, supported by tenacious defensive play from Alex Goyette, Jared Fohs, Mike Kane, Cedrick Burgess, and William Fisher.
Dragons Win Tough Match
The Dragons team played a very strong match to earn a 2-1 victory over the DCST Blue Thunder. In the first half, Mark Miller opened the scoring for the Dragons, netting a well placed shot off of a solid cross from Joey Gorirossi. In the second half, several Dragon players combined on multiple passing combinations to create numerous opportunities for the Dragons offense. Kevin Fitch controlled the midfield with excellent vision and distribution of the ball to wings, Delonte Smith and James Rice, who made great offensive drives. Midway through the second half, Fitch found Smith on the right wing, who sent the ball to Gorirossi. Gorirossi sent an excellent pass to striker Matt Cross, who perfectly timed his run and volleyed the ball into the back of the net for the Dragons second goal. Kevin Faust, Tom Popp, and Nadji Grizzle also contributed good runs and tough play on the attack.
With the score at 2-0, DCST pressed hard, bringing most of their players into the offense, and they were able to net a nicely placed shot to narrow the Dragons lead to 2-1. But Dragons defenders Jared Fohs, Alex Goyette, William Fisher, and Mike Kane were up to the challenge and played exceptional defense to hold onto the lead for the Dragons.
Keeper Sean Killion returned to the pitch after being out for 4 weeks with a knee injury. He never missed a beat and played a phenominal game, making many key saves to ensure the win.

Dragons Defeat MCSA Metrostars
The Dragons defeated the MCSA Metrostars 2-1 in a tough match. James Rice opened the scoring in the early minutes of the game for the Dragons on a nice pass from Matt Cross. With about 15 minutes remaining in the second half, the Metrostars answered with a goal of their own to tie the score at 1-1. In the final minute of the game, Joey Gorirossi received an expertly placed pass from Rice and netted the game winner. Mark Miller, Kevin Fitch, Delonte Smith, Ramu Davis, Kevin Faust, and Nadji Grizzle contributed excellent play on the attack and in the midfield. Mike Kane, Jared Fohs, William Fisher, Cedrick Burgess, and Alex Goyette played terrific defense, while keeper Matt Michael was again superb in the net.
State Cup
The Dragons played a hard fought State Cup match against the Region I Baltimore Bays '92. For 75 minutes, the two teams played to a 0-0 draw. In the 76th minute of the 80 minute game, a Bays player hit a well placed shot to gain a 1-0 lead. The Dragons all pressed forward to try to score, but with less than 30 seconds to play, the Bays were able to net a second goal on a break away.
Keeper Matt Michael was the player of the game for the Dragons, coming up with 15 awesome saves. Jared Fohs, William Fisher, Mike Kane, Cedrick Burgess, and Alex Goyette also played phenominal defense. Kevin Fitch, Joey Gorirossi, Ramu Davis, and Kevin Faust controlled the midfield, distributing great passes. James Rice, Delonte Smith, Matt Cross, and Mark Miller were very strong on the attack. Tom Popp and Nadji Grizzle also contributed tough play.
Dragons Tie MCSA Royals
The Dragons and the MCSA Royals (Premier '91) played a hard fought and exciting contest to a 4-4 draw. Starting off the attack for the Dragons was Delonte Smith when he received a beautiful cross from Jared Fohs and buried the ball into the back of the net in the first half. In the second half, Mark Miller sent a well placed pass to Joey Gorirossi, who chipped the ball over the defender for the Dragons second goal. Minutes later, Miller drew a foul just outside the box, and James Rice sent the resulting free kick into the left corner of the net. The Dragons final goal resulted on a quick free kick from Gorirossi to Rice, who hit a perfect shot to earn his second goal of the match. The excellent passing and ball handling of Kevin Fitch, Matt Cross, and Ramu Davis also contributed to the Dragons attacks. Keeper Matt Michael played strong in goal with great defensive support from Mike Kane, William Fisher, Cedrick Burgess, Fohs, and Smith, while Kevin Faust, Tom Popp, and Nadji Grizzle contributed tough play in the midfield.
Dragons Win Season Opener!
The Dragons opened the NCSL season with a 2-1 victory over the SYC Gladiators! In a game between two very evenly matched teams in both skill and determination, the Dragons and Gladiators battled to a 0-0 draw at half time. The first half featured tremendous saves from Keeper Matt Michael for the Dragons as well as the Gladiators keeper. The Dragons keeper was supported by expert defensive play throughout the game from Jared Fohs, Alex Goyette, Mike Kane, and William Fisher.
The Dragons offense came out strong in the second half, led by great passing combinations from midfielders Kevin Fitch, James Rice, Joey Gorirossi, Delonte Smith, and Ramu Davis. Early in the half, the Dragons were awarded a free kick from about the 25 yard line . . . James Rice drilled the free kick into the back of the net to give the Dragons a 1-0 lead. The Gladiators soon answered back with a goal of their own on a beautifully angled shot from the left midfielder. The Dragons continued to pressure the Gladiators' defense with strikers Mark Miller and Matt Cross taking strong shots on goal. Kevin Faust, Tom Popp, and Nadji Grizzle entered the game in the midfield to add to the pressure on the Gladiators defense. With less than 10 minutes left to play, Joey Gorirossi netted a nicely placed PK to give the Dragons the win. Matt Michael made key saves near the end of the game to seal the victory.

Williamsburg Sixes Champions!
Seven of the Dragons traveled to Williamsburg, VA, for the Williamsburg Sixes 6v6 tournament. The Dragons won the tournament in dramatic fashion, defeating Chesterfield United in a shoot-out. Regulation play ended in a 2-2 tie. Matt Michael netted both goals for the Dragons, with Joey Gorirossi and Kevin Faust each earning an assist. With just minutes left to play, Defender Alex Goyette made the play of the game when he came behind our keeper and swept out a hard hit Chesterfield shot that could have been the game winner. Kevin Fitch also played a superb game as the team's anchor and expert passer in the midfield. The two teams played to a draw in overtime and proceeded to penalty kicks (3 kicks per team) to decide the match. Keeper Sean Killion made an amazing save on Chesterfield's first kick. Killion then netted a PK of his own to put the Dragons up 1-0. Chesterfield's second kicker netted his PK, tying the score. Gorirossi sent a perfectly placed PK passed Chesterfield's keeper to give the Dragons a 2-1 lead. Chesterfield's final kicker missed high, which sealed the Dragons victory.
In the earlier rounds, the Dragons won 3 games, defeating the NYSL-VB Mustangs 6-0, Virginia Legacy Red 6-0, and Chesapeake United Arsenal White 5-3. James Rice and Joey Gorirossi led the attack with 5 goals apiece, while Kevin Fitch and Matt Michael each tallied 3 goals, and Alex Goyette netted 1 goal. Kevin Faust, Rice, Gorirossi, and Michael each earned assists, while Keeper Sean Killion had a stellar tournament in the net.
