Borromeo Defeats Holy Rosary in the Season Finale to Claim 2nd Place in the CYA Red Division!!
The Bobcats knocked off a short-handed Holy Rosary team 31-10 in the season finale. As a result the team finished in 2nd place in the CYA Red Division, 7-3 in the league, 20-4 overall.
The girls played in a much tougher division this season than last, but at the same time the Red Division was a little weeker than it was a year ago. On the other hand, having players out for 34% of the league games, a 7-3 league record is quite impressive and the girls and their parents should be very proud of the way they played this year.
St. Patrick 1-2 (2-2 overall)
Holy Rosary 2-1 (3-1 overall)
St. Cletus 4-0
(Note: The team had one more victory each for St. Patrick and Holy Rosary, but those games were in the Borromeo Tournament)
The team also won 3 of the 4 tournaments entered this year and finished 2nd in the other. Another remarkaable accomplishment.Season Recap:

7th Grade Girls Win the Borromeo Tournament!!!!
After 11 straight road games the Borromeo 7th grade girls finally returned home to play in the 31st Annual Saint Charles Borromeo Basketball Tournament. Due to the unusual number of teams in the tournament this year, Borromeo, St. Cletus, and St. Patrick were granted first round byes.
The 7th grade girls played a VERY good and fellow Red Division team, St.Patrick in the final. Borromeo jumped out to an early lead but St. Patrick kept coming back. Some opportune baskets late propelled Borromeo to victory. The final score was 52-37. Borromeo made it to the finals with wins over ICOM-Bals (29-13), a Red Division team last season, and Holy Rosary (38-28), a Red Division team this year,
The 7th grade team is 14-2 this season and have won 2 and finished 2nd in the 3 tournaments entered this season.

7th Grade Girls Finish As Runners Up at the 2nd Annual Visitation Tournament!!
After a hard fought semi final game the 7th grade girls had an uphill battle against a VERY good Visitation Academy team. The girls were in the game into the 2nd half but too many mistakes, a continued press, and extremely hot shooting by Visitation were too much to overcome. The final score was 50-20. Borromeo made it to the finals with wins over St. Simon (42-8), St. Genevieve (45-13), Our Lady of Sorrows (38-19), and in the semi-finals, Mary Queen of Peace (34-29). The 7th grade team is 7-1 this season. #20 and #40 made the All Tournament Team, however, the there is no way the team would have advanced without the play of #54. All of the girls played very hard and represented St. Charles Borromeo well.

Borromeo 7th Grade Girls Win JFK Catholic High School Tournament 12/19-12/20/09
The Borromeo 7th Grade Girls opened the season posting a 3-0 record in the John F. Kennedy Catholic High School Tournament. Borromeo started strong against Chirst Prince of Peace winning 43-8. They jumped out to an early lead against a very good St. John Bosco team and were able to hang on for a 40-35 victory. Borromeo played St. Charles County's own St. Joseph-Cottleville in the championship and won 38-11. The girls played extremely hard and were very deserving. They received many complements from coaches and tournament officials for their great effort. What a great way to kick off the season! Good job girls! Next up: Visitation Academy Tournament 12/31-1/3

Borromeo Falls Short in All Saints Championship Game vs. St. Cletus 25-18
After winning its first 3 games of the All Saints Tournament, Borromeo came up short in the championship game against St. Cletus, 25-18. The loss was Borromeo's first in 20 games this season. Earlier this season, Borrormeo handed St. Cletus its only loss of the season in the Assumption tournament (36-19).
The girls played their hearts out in this one, but could not overcome foul trouble and hot outside shooting from St. Cletus. If the team was going to lose one, it probably couldn't find a team with better talent and coaching than St. Cletus. The Comets are strong in all areas of the game and are very well prepared game in and game out.
St. Cletus, who won its first 2 games of the tournament after receiving a bye to advance to the championship game, is the odds on favorite to win the CYA "Red" (A) division this year having finished 2nd in that division last year. Borrormeo is currently leading the CYA "Blue" (B) division at 6-0.
The game marked the first time this season that Borromeo gave up more than 19 points, scored fewer than 24 points, and failed to win a tournament it had entered (3 first place finishes and now 1 second place finish).

Borromeo Holds On Against ICD-Lane And Advances To The All Saints Tournament Championship!
The 6th grade girls played a spirited game on Friday night. The game was close most of the way but girls were able to pull away at the end 28-18. As a result the team advanced to the All Saints Tournament Championship Game on Sunday, 2/15, 6:00 PM. That will be the 4th tournament championship game for the team in 4 tournaments this season! The question that has the Borromeo-Stewart basketball community bewildered - will there be any MORE tournaments this season???

Borromeo Upends Last Year's CYA "A" Division Champions in the All Saints Tournament 33-12
Borromeo jumped out in front of St. Patrick-Knowlton, last year's CYA A division champion, and kept up the pressure in a 33-12 win on Sunday (2/8) in the All Saints tournament. Up next will be the ICD-Lane (CYC) squad that Borromeo has faced in the St. Theodore and Assumption tournaments. ICD-Lane defeated ICOM-Bals just prior to Borromeo's win. Borromeo's scoring was very balanced with many players contributing. Great Job Girls!!! See you Friday night!!!!

Borromeo Starts Off The All Saints Tournament With Win Over St. Cletus-Struckhoff
Borromeo opened up the All Saints Tournament by defeating St. Cletus-Struckhoff 32-11 (or was it 34 -- individual scoring was 2 points higher than the total score) last night, 2/7. Earlier in the day Borromeo played a nip and tuck game until the 4th quarter with Holy Rosary in league play. This was not the case in the evening tilt. Borromeo led 16-3 at the half and never looked back. Solid contributions were made by all. Great Job Girls!

Borromeo Defeats Assumption 30-14 to take Assumption Tournament Championship
The 6th grade Borromeo girls team defeated Assumption at Assumption Saturday night to take the tourney championship. Following the game, the 6th grade boys team did the same. Congrats to the boys team as well!!!
After going up 24-4 in the first half, the Borromeo girls coasted to a 30-14 victory. The game was the second of the day for most of the girls and fourth of the day for a couple of others. Also, after making her 2009 season debut earlier in the day at St. Peter, KG was on the court for only the second time this season in the night cap and made solid contributions. This was the first time all season where everyone was on hand. Great Job Girls (and boys)!!!

6th Grade Borromeo Girls Upend St. Cletus-Plackemeier 36-19 in the Assumption Tournament
Great victory tonight. St. Cletus-Plackemeier is one of the premier teams in the CYA Red ("A") division. This was perhaps the best team we'll play this year barring future tournament games. The girls kept their composure, played excellent defense, and despite shooting rather poorly from the field kept up the offensive pressure the whole game. I received many compliments from the St. Cletus parents about how well our kids played and how good they looked (note: this is no reflection on the coach - the kids are almost on auto-pilot and have been all year. You'll see my true colors UNFORTUNATELY when we get into some closer scoring games).
Up next in the Assumption tournament: Assumption-Gentry, Saturday, 1/24, 7:00 PM
This is another Red ("A") division team that finished 5-5 in the A last year. They beat us by 3 in our first game last year in overtime after hitting 2 free throws to tie it with no time left in regulation. They later beat us at home by 1. They played a tough, physical game against ICD in the St. Theodore tournament and lost. I think they placed third there. They are a tough, hustling team that is well-coached. They may have a slightly different look this year over last year. They may have a bit more size than before.

Borromeo-Stewart defeats ICD-Lane in the Assumption tournament 29-14
The girls were resiliant tonight. After going up 12-2 in the first half only to have that lead evaporate to 12-12 on a last second first half shot, the girls held ICD to 2 points in the second half (on 2 free throws) and managed to score 17 of their own. This was a HUGE test for this team. The "select" players that were missing from the championship game at St. Theodore were there tonight and their presence was definitely felt.
The girls (and I) need to work on not becoming "defeated" when they are pressured or do not have success. Try not to look at the score so much when there are a couple of bad possessions. That sort of thinking plays right into the defense's strategy.
Notes: Borromeo has yet to yield 20 points to an opponent. ICD was only the second opponent to hold Borromeo under 30 this season (SESR held us to 24 on 12/20).
Up next in the Assumption tournament is St. Cletus-Plackemeier. This is probably the best team in the A (red) division this year. Pack a lunch. We're going to need it. 01/16/09, 9:00 pm, @ Assumption.
Check the ton of email received 1/14 for the link to the pictures for this game.

The Borromeo 7th grade girls finished up tournament play by winning the St. Paul Tournament on March 20.
The 7th grade girls played All Saints in the final. Borromeo was able to get out in front and hold on for the victory, 41-14. Borromeo made it to the finals with wins over Saint Theodore (43-12) and ICOM, a Red Division team last season (24-17).
The 7th grade team is 19-4 this season and have won 3 and finished 2nd in the 4 tournaments entered this season. Borromeo's last game of the season is on March 27 at Borromeo vs. Holy Rosary.
