COMMISSIONER'S OFFICE RELEASES 2008 RFL SCHEDULE

The RFL Commissioner's Office released the 2008 RFL schedule on Sunday, July 27, 2008.  All games are subject to change or cancellation, and the kickoff times may change pending media scheduling rights.

As first introduced for the 2005 season, the RFL League Office will continue to accept a $5.00 per game per player goodwill donation to the RFL General Fund.  The RFL Players Association supports this donation as it helps defray the cost of staging the games.  In 2005, the RFL League Office spent $992 maintaining and upgrading both the RFL equipment and BoileRoss Field while collecting donations of $310 (if every participant less Blair and Chad had donated, the number would have been $440 going into the 2005 Pro Bowl).  In 2006, $745 was spent on the league while $446 was collected (less Blair and Chad collection, $555 could have been received).  In 2007, over $1100 was been spent (field paint, in-ground marker upgrades for new kick lines and hash marks, dirt, new sideline yard markers for the new kickoff and onside lines, new flag belts and flags, etc.) while $558 was collected (less Blair and Chad collection, $725 could have been received).  Your contributions, cooperation, and understanding in this matter are greatly appreciated.

BoileRoss Field opens for pre-game warm-ups 35 minutes prior to each game’s scheduled kickoff time.

COMMISSIONER'S OFFICE RELEASES 2007 RFL SCHEDULE

The RFL Commissioner's Office released the 2007 RFL schedule on Sunday, July 22, 2007.  All games are subject to change or cancellation, and the kickoff times may change pending media scheduling rights.

As first introduced for the 2005 season, the RFL League Office will continue to accept a $5.00 per game per player donation to the RFL General Fund. In 2006, $745 was spent on the league while $446 was collected (less Blair and Chad collection, $555 should have been received).  So far in 2007, over $1100 has been spent (field paint, in-ground marker upgrades for new kick lines and hash marks, dirt, new sideline yard markers for the new kick-off and onside lines, new flag belts and flags, etc.).  Your contributions, cooperation, and understanding in this matter are greatly appreciated.

BoileRoss Field opens for pre-game warm-ups 35 minutes prior to each game’s scheduled kick-off time.

*** KEYS TO THE GAME ***
>> The game was well played and exciting, and the players in the official RFL sportswear raised their game and appearance to another level!
>> What a difference one year makes! The 2005 Holiday Bowl was played on a snow covered BoileRoss Field where 6-8 inches of the white stuff blanketed the playing surface. This year’s game was played under temperatures that climbed into the low 60’s in the second half!!!
>> Both teams committed four turnovers, but two of Red’s turnovers were via lost fumbles … one for a Green touchdown that was recovered in Green’s end zone and one for a Green touchback as the fumble occurred at the one-yard line but bounded out of the back of Red’s end zone. One of Green’s four interceptions was run back by Red for a touchdown. Green netted 18 points off of Red’s turnovers, while Red tallied 21 points off of Green’s turnovers.
>> Red was 6-9 on its PAT attempts while Gold was 3-4 on its PAT attempts and 3-3 on its 2PT conversion attempts.

*** KEYS TO THE GAME ***
>> Red’s victory was achieved on the final play of the game. It was also Red’s first lead since the opening drive touchdown that put Red ahead 6-0.
>> Behind fresh legs for the 4th quarter due to an injury substitution, Red’s straight and stunt pass rush forced constant quarterback pressure that impacted Gold’s ability to generate any offensive momentum and helped RED overcome a six point 4th quarter deficit.
>> On the final play of the 1st half, Gold’s trickery resulted in a 25-yard play … 1-yard, though, short of a touchdown. This kept Gold’s lead at seven points rather than 13 or 14. With receipt of the ball to begin the second half, Gold could have extended its lead to up to 21 points.
>> Red committed two turnovers (both interceptions) while Gold committed none, but Gold did not convert on the second turnover mid-way through the 4th quarter.
>> Red was 3-6 on its PAT attempts and 0-1 on 2PT PAT attempts while Gold was only 3-7 on its PAT attempts.

*** KEYS TO THE GAME ***
>> Experimental rules first used during the 10/08 game were used once again. In addition to playing 7-on-7 on the field with one sub, these rules included (1) immediate rush except on FG and PAT attempts where the normal “8-Apple” count was used, (2) the one run per first down rule included the QB on a direct snap, (3) all offensive players were eligible receivers, and (4) a team leading by 25 or more points would use a “3-Apple” spoken out-loud count before rushing. Rule revision #4 was not used in this game as the largest lead by either team was 14 points.
>> Trailing 34-26 at halftime, Gold returned an interception 41-yards for a touchdown on the opening drive of the second half to slice the lead to two points. After the first drive of the 4th quarter that resulted in a Gold touchdown and 2PT PAT conversion, the score was 48-47 Red.
>> With the score 55-47 and Gold second and goal from the 6-yard line in the 4th quarter, Red intercepted at the 1-yard line and returned the ball 2-yards to the 3-yard line. Three plays and 57 yards later, Red scored a touchdown and with the PAT, extended their lead to 62-47.
>> Red was 8-9 on its PAT attempts while Gold was 4-6 on its PAT attempts and 1-2 on 2PT PAT attempts.
>> The Young Gunz – Old Farts rematch was a well played and exciting game that was in doubt all the way until the final play of the game. The final play resulted in a 54-yard touchdown pass for Red that completed the scoring for the day.

COMMISSIONER'S OFFICE RELEASES 2006 RFL SCHEDULE
The RFL Commissioner's Office released the tentative 2006 RFL schedule on Sunday, April 09, 2006. All games are subject to change or cancellation, and the kickoff times may change pending media scheduling rights.

As first introduced for the 2005 season, the RFL League Office will continue to accept a $5.00 per game per player donation to the RFL General Fund. Thank you for your understanding and cooperation.

BoileRoss Field opens for pre-game warm-ups 35 minutes prior to each game¡¦s scheduled kick-off time.

*** GAME QUOTES (MAYBE THEY'RE TRUE, MAYBE THEY'RE NOT!!) ***
>> Justin Bruce … The trash talking began over a week prior to the game with the following remarks from Justin to Blair: “yo man these young gunz gonna take u guys to the house u old farts need to bring out all the stops just to even have a chance … hahaha”
>> Blair Ross … After calling Eminem for a rap lingo training class, Blair responded to Justin’s trash talk with the following: “yo boyz these old fartz gonna respond to u and yur childish thots and set the deal strate rite out of the gate ... yule be wining for yur mommas by the end of the furst quarter so bring yur blankez with u boyz … from da man and da men ... hahaha”
>> Ryan Sparks … With the momentum of the game completely on the side of the Gold team early in the 2nd quarter, Ryan had this to say: “Thanks a lot, Justin … your trash talking really got the dads motivated. You better learn to back it up next time before opening your mouth.”
>> Chad Ross … “Man … these plays work a lot better on the video game.”
>> Jeromy White … The pass was high, late, and hit the receivers hands at the same moment defensive back Craig Carnes leveled the intended receiver, but Jeromy had this to say to Justin: “Be strong … you’ve got to catch that pass!”
>> Tim Sparks … After witnessing Tyler Ernstberger tackle Blair Ross after an interception return by ripping apart Blair’s shorts, Tim had this to say: “I’m sure glad you’re wearing underwear under those shorts.”
>> Fan Trudi Ernstberger … After witnessing the same tear-away-pants tackle mentioned above, Trudi was flabbergasted and was all shook up. “I think I’m going to have to keep my distance … this game has a little too much exposure for my liking.”
>> Clark Wade … In another form or pre-game trash talk that worked to motivate the opposing team, Clark had this to say when his team assignment was still in limbo. “I wouldn't exactly say I'm a ‘Young Gun’ or an ‘Old Fart.’ I'm in-between (either a Young Fart or an Old Gun). I guess if I’m an OLD FART, I don't have to worry about a ‘Run ’n Gun’ Offense, and if I'm a YOUNG GUN then I will have an Old Fart guarding me which also works to my favor!”
>> Casey Ross, Critic ... “So Dad, did you whip up on those Young Guns today? Do you think they’ll listen to you the next time you try to convince them that brains and experience will go further than youth and trash talk? To be honest with you, though, I thought they’d beat you, too!”

>> Tyler Ernstberger ... "I'm sorry, Blair, about wearing this red IU stocking cap while being on the Gold Team, but my dad made me wear it."
>> Conrad Rockey ... "I have concern for the Red Team ... Jeromy's wearing an Indiana Hoosier shirt, and you know what that means when it comes to football."
>> Chad Ross ... In response to Conrad's comment concerning Jeromy's shirt, Chad responded with the following. "I'd have to disagree, Conrad, because I think the Red Team has a whole lot more talent than the IU football team has."
>> Craig Carnes ... "It felt so strange putting on this red shirt today. I feel more natural in gold."
>> Clark Wade ... After breaking up a Gold Team pass from Chad Ross to Tyler Ernstberger off the back of his head, Clark looked a little disoriented and was overhead mumbling something to this effect: "I don't think I'm in Kansas any more!" The ball had to be checked to make sure it was still in good playing condition after the play!!
>> Mike Hines ... "I felt really slow out there ... but it feels great winning!"
>> Richard Bruce ... After sacrificing his body on numerous plays throughout the first half, Richard had this to say after being described as a wild man. "Hey, I'm just out here to have fun!"
>> Joe Gambrall ... "We simply didn't play very smart today."
>> Conrad Rockey ... "Blair, you put all the beef on the Red Team."
>> Casey Ross, Critic ... As Casey listened to the replay of the game as she and her family traveled to Papaw's house for a belated Christmas celebration, she had this to say. "Mom ... Dad's in a lot better mood after this game, isn't he? I think I like it better, though, when his team loses because he doesn't talk about the game for very long."

*** GAME QUOTES (MAYBE THEY'RE TRUE, MAYBE THEY'RE NOT!!) ***
>> Justin Bruce ... "My Christmas wish has been granted!! I was on a winning team! Dad, isn't it such a great feeling? I'm having a hard time holding back the tears."
>> Richard Bruce ... "You know, son, this victory is almost like shopping at Meijer. Everything just seems better! I love you son. I wish Chelle was here so she could be a part of our joy."
>> Chad Ross ... "Dad, Richard was talking trash to me. He said to stop whining about the fact that they had an extra player on their team. I know we could have beat them if the playing field had been level. Oh, well, they certainly are happy with the victory. It kind of makes me feel good inside seeing them filled with so much joy."
>> Ryan Sparks ... "Hey, guys, neither Chad or Devon can stay with me today. Feed me, man ... I feel it!"
>> Joe Gambrall ... "Well, Blair, the wind just left the sails with that interception."
>> Devon Melsheimer ... "I haven't washed this shirt since the last RFL game I played in." This comment was in reference to Devon's home-made GOLD officially licensed RFL #7 jersey. Devon's last game was 12/08/2002!!
>> John Rockey ... "I knew if I had better players on my team, I could be a part of a winning team."
>> Clark Wade ... "Man, if I had some of Miranda's height, I would have caught that pass, Blair."
>> Casey Ross, Critic ... After learning that her father's four game winning streak had ended at the hands of the Red Team, Casey showed no sympathy. Instead, all that she could do was laugh hysterically for nearly five minutes. "Ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha ..."

>> John Rockey ... "Even though the play didn't work like I've seen before, it sure was fun sending Jeromy long time after time after time."
>> Chad Ross ... "Hey, Dad, I'm 6-6 on my PAT's during the last two regulation RFL games. You can't blame me this time on making you miss one of your three attempts ... unless trying to get you to run a fake as your prepared to kick counts!"
>> Conrad Rockey ... "I can't believe you put me on the Red team."

2002 RFL GAME #2: GOAL POST INSTALLED, PILE-ONS ADDED
Game #2 of the 2002 RFL season was played on Sunday, December 8, 2002. After a week of frigid cold, the weather improved on game day as sunny skies prevailed and the temperature soared to nearly 40 degrees! Chad Ross connected on the first point after touchdown kick ever at BoileRoss Field to lead the GOLD team to an RFL scoring record of 92 points!   After being knocked out of the game midway through the second quarter with a loose tooth and a bloodied mouth when he and teammate Devon Melsheimer combined to pancake RED team quarterback Justin Bruce for a sack, Chad returned to action just before the end of the third quarter to spur the GOLD team to 26 points in the 4th quarter, scoring on a 28 yard interception return, firing a 31 yard TD bomb to deep ball threat Craig Carnes, and scoring on a 17 yard toss from Tyler Ernstberger. In addition to Chad's 3-3 XP kicking, Blair Ross was 2-3 while Craig Carnes, Todd Ernstberger, and Devon Melsheimer were all 1-2. GOLD team quarterback Blair Ross set an RFL single game quarterback rating record of 158.3 (a perfect score), throwing for six TDs against no interceptions. Todd Ernstberger's first RFL touchdown reception followed an instant replay review when Tyler Ernstberger's apparent touchdown was overuled. Tyler dove for the goal line and hit the pile-on but was ruled out-of-bounds at the two yard line just prior to the stretch attempt. The GOLD prevailed over the RED by the final score of 92-39.

After falling behind 66-19 midway through the third quarter, the RED team made a charge by slicing the lead to 66-39 early in the 4th quarter. Rick Hicks (1-2) connected on the only XP kick for the RED team, while Ryan Sparks fired to Nick Sherlock for a 2-point conversion following a diving touchdown catch on a throw from Ryan to Sean Hicks.

The GOLD team consisted of the following members:
1) Craig Carnes (2-0)
2) Todd Ernstberger (2-0)
3) Tyler Ernstberger (1-0)
4) Devon Melsheimer (1-0)
5) Blair Ross (2-0)
6) Chad Ross (2-0)

The RED team consisted of the following members:
1) Richard Bruce (0-2)
2) Justin Bruce (0-2)
3) Rick Hicks (0-1)
4) Sean Hicks (0-1)
5) Nick Sherlock (0-1)

** Special thanks goes to Casey Ross and Jeromy White for their assistance on Tuesday, November 26, 2002, installing the goal post.

RFL RESUMES AFTER NEARLY 9-YEAR HIATUS
The Ross Football League (RFL) resumed play for the first time on Sunday, November 17, 2002, after nearly a nine year hiatus. In chilly but sunny 38 degree weather, the GOLD team defeated the RED team on the final series of the game, winning an offensive shoot-out by a 60-55 score. The game was played at BoileRoss Field.

In one of the most exciting games in RFL history, the GOLD team overcame a 40-32 halftime deficit to take a 54-48 lead with less than five minutes to play on a touchdown pass from Blair Ross to receiver Chad Ross and a spectacular 2-point after touchdown conversion pass play from Blair Ross to a diving Craig "Superman" Carnes . The RED team responded to regain the lead 55-54 following a Jeromy White to John Rockey touchdown strike and a Ryan Sparks point-after-touchdown 1-point run. On the final play of the game, GOLD quarterback Blair Ross hooked up with receiver Conrad Rockey in what turned out to be a 44 yard gain that was aided by a mid-field block by Jim Bumb and a tackle breaking spin move by Conrad.

The GOLD team consisted of the following members:
1) Jim Bumb (1-0) **
2) Craig Carnes (1-0)
3) Todd Ernstberger (1-0)
4) Conrad Rockey (1-0) **
5) Blair Ross (1-0) **
6) Chad Ross (1-0) **

The RED team consisted of the following members:
1) Richard Bruce (0-1)
2) Justin Bruce (0-1)
3) John Rockey (0-1) **
4) Ryan Sparks (0-1)
5) Tim Sparks (0-1)
6) Jeromy White (0-1)
