Bocas To Compete for the State Cup Championship!
Ripon, CA. The Boca Juniors 91 team faced 6th ranked Sonoma County Alliance on Saturday, April 29th for their "Round of 18" game. Boca came out strong and focused, and in the 5th minute of the game, forward Mallory Creamer broke through the defense for the first goal of the game. Then midway through the first half, midfielder Courtney Strombeck placed a beautiful pass in front of Creamer for her second goal of the game. SCA battled back with a goal before halftime, for a 2-1 score going into the break. Despite SCA's efforts, the defense of Rachelle Rodman, Alli Kelly, Alex DelAgua, Jen Ericson and Nicole Wilson held solid, and provided little action for keeper Erin Rost. Ericson helped cap off the win with a great pass to forward Rachel Mercik who scored from the left side, to end the game with a 3-1 win for Boca.
On Sunday morning, Boca faced 4th ranked Lamorinda United for the quarter final game. Boca battled Lamo in a very evenly matched game, when midway through the first half, Boca earned PK, but could not convert. The score at the half was 0-0. Early in the second half, Boca earned a corner kick, which Creamer headed into the goal for the 1-0 lead. But, Lamo battled back with a chip over the keepers head, late in the second half, to end the game tied at 1-1. After 2 5 minute "Golden Goal" overtime periods, the score was still tied at 1-1, so the teams went to Penalty Kicks. Lamo went first and made theirs. Boca Captain, Alex Delagua went next and made hers. Boca keeper Erin Rost saved the next two Lamo attempts, but could not stop the fourth. But Boca kickers, Jen Ericson, Rachel Mercik and Mallory Creamer all converted theirs for the win!
On Sunday afternoon, Boca faced 17th ranked Cal Odyssey Red in the Semi-Final Game. Boca's defense held the odyssey most of the game and played a huge part in Boca's offensive attack. Defender Rachelle Rodman assisted Rachel Mercik for a goal in the first half, and defender Jen Ericson assisted Mercik again in the second half to end the game with a 2-0 win, and a trip to the State Cup Finals in Livermore on May 6th!
