Boca Jrs. '91 Finish Second At Pleasanton College Showcase
Pleasanton, CA -- The River City United Boca Jrs. '91 team (playing as Cavitt Academy) finished second this past weekend at the Pleasanton Rage College Showcase against some of the best competition the state of California has to offer.
"From a soccer standpoint I think we played four great games," said head coach Gabriel Bolton. "We just need to learn to be a little tougher in the 18s. We have to finish our chances and do a little better job of clearing the other team's chances. However, it was good to see the team play quality soccer against good competition."
Boca started the weekend on Saturday with a 5-0 trouncing of Pleasanton Rage AC. Forward Mallory Creamer started the scoring when attacking midfielder Rachel Mercik played a ball down the line to forward Alli Kelly who crossed the ball to Creamer. Kelly assisted on the second goal, again a cross, this time to forward Timery Mueller. Creamer made it 3-0 when Alex Del Agua played a thru ball to her. Danielle Lovato extended the lead again on a pass from Mercik. The fifth goal came from Kelly who beat the back line and the goalkeeper.
In the afternoon match Boca took on Southern California powerhouse NHB. Boca opened the scoring when an NHB player handled the ball in the box to give Boca Jrs. a penalty kick. Teagan Seman finished the opportunity. Despite dominating the match Boca could not extend the lead. NHB tied the game with 5 minutes remaining and the match ended 1-1.
Sunday morning Boca again dominated their competition, CRSC Infinity, but again could only manage a 1-1 tie. This time they had to come from behind to tie the game in the second half on a goal from Mueller.
In the afternoon Boca put it all together and beat another Southern California power, Albion, 4-0.
Kelly netted a hat trick to lead the way. She was assisted by Creamer twice and Mueller. Creamer added the fourth goal.
The Boca defense of Courtney Strombeck, Del Agua, Rachel Rodman, Jen Ericson, Stephanie Collins, Nicole Wilson and goalkeeper Erin Rost posted the shutout.
Next up Boca takes on FC Fremont and De Anza in the final two Super Y League games of the season.
