RCU Boca Teams All Advance In Cal Cup
All three River City United Boca Jrs. teams participating in California Cup this weekend advanced to at least the Quarter-Finals of the tournament. The Boca '92 team highlighted this great effort by reaching the semi-finals.
The Boca '92 team finished second in their bracket that included the defending State Cup Champions Danville Mustang. In the Quarter Finals they defeated DVSC in penalty kicks. Despite a great effort in the Semi-Finals again Los Gatos they fell 2-0. However, the highlight of the tournament was taking the defending State Cup Champions to penalty kicks in the Consolation game.
"I'm extremely proud of the players," said head coach Melissa Cavitt. "They played amazing the entire weekend and really did everything I asked them to do."
It was a similar story fo the Boca '93 team. They finished second in their bracket after defeating San Juan 6-0 and Santa Rosa 1-0. They met defending State Cup Champion Danville Mustang in the Quarter-Finals in a rematch of last year's State Cup Finals. The match ended 1-1 after regulation and Danville prevailed 4-3 in penalty kicks.
"The girls were awesome this weekend," said head coach Gary Messing. "They really showed an incredible amount of heart in the last game against Mustang."
The Boca '91 team finished first in their bracket winning all three games. They defeated Placer 1-0, SCA 2-0, and DVSC 2-0. However, they ran into eventual tournament champions Lamorinda in the Quarter-Finals and fell 2-0.
"The thing I think all of our teams took away from Cal Cup is that they were in brackets that put them up against the best competition the tournament had to offer," said Boca '91 head Coach Gabriel Bolton. "We always tell our players in this club that great competition is something to cherish. That you should always hope for a great opponent so you can test yourself. All of our teams got to test themselves this weekend which is great!"
